RIP Darkersls

[info]rp_connect
[info]rp_tutorials
The loss of Darkersls has pushed me to create this: [info]plot_central. This community can be used to put your ideas forward for a psl or gpsl if you're searching for a plot line or have an idea you want to see if anyone bites at. Line requests or line ideas for games can also be posted there as well. Game ads are not welcome but can be posted to the sister community [info]rpg_connect. Right now it's only me running it, but if anyone wants to jump on board, feel free to poke me. Spread the word and join!

Tossing Out An Idea

[info]affictitious
[info]rp_tutorials
A random idea came to me about starting up a community geared toward the RPer with a CDJ or a main RPing journal where they can drop their CDJ/journal username, links to their characters, writing samples, and wanted storylines. I guess you could say that it could (potentially) be a massive archive? Would any anyone be interested in having that as a tool at their disposal?

Lets Talk About Gif/Icon Chats verses Para/Threads and Characterization

There's something I've been thinking about a lot in terms of Roleplay Games. This is specifically for Journal Platform Games and Tumblr Games--because while they have different styles and rules at times there are also similarities in play and, I believe, sometimes similar pitfalls. Perhaps the most troublesome thing I've had to learn how to manage, and I think others have as well, is the disconnect between Para/Threading (novel style responses) and Gif-Chats or Icon-Chats.

Before we get into the differences I want to define these two methods of conversation:

Paraing or Threading

the style of interacting through novel style writing. Its often, but not always, written in third person (past or present depends) and each writer focuses predominantly and mostly exclusively on their character.

Icon Chats

Chats on journal platforms often in first person--written as dialog or as written dictation with Icons used to convey tone or expression of the character. Example

Gif Chats

Chats on Tumblr often in first person--written as dialog or as written dictation with gifs included so that tone or expression of the character can be conveyed. Example

F-Locking a Community

[info]paging_paige
[info]rp_tutorials
I know there's a way to set the precedence in the admin console to f-lock every post in a community after executing the command. I just don't remember what it is. Does anyone know?

EDIT So for a community, it's

set for <*community*> newpost_minsecurity friends

just replacing with the community's name (no <* or *>)

I really hate deleting journals if I don't have to, so I'm looking to give away this community.
You would get all the connected sub-communities, plus a scribbld account. Any interest?

So! I had an idea... Since [info]nameless_layout seems to be dead? Why not make a new comm much the same?

Therefore [info]insane_layouts was born!

Plotting And Characterization in [info]roadmaps

Welcome to [info]roadmaps! This is sort of an intro to characterization and plotting for this game in specific--mostly for those who are new but also those who might feel that they are struggling. Plotting and Characterization Relating to Activity )

In order to help with game promotion, I will be creating a post to show up on the front page of my icon journal. With as many players who use icons on a daily basis, I'm hopeful the list of roleplays will get quite a few glances. If you have any you would like for me to list, please go here to fill out the form!

Sarah TL;DRs: Temporary Characters and Unaffiliated

[info]storylineday
[info]rp_tutorials
Note: This TL;DR is brought to you by [info]roadmaps. It was written in relation to writing Temporary or Unaffiliated characters in that particular Marauders AU Universe but I've been given the impression that it might be useful elsewhere particularly if a player is having trouble getting interaction for characters. The characters mentioned in detail in this post are my own. Temporary Character for the US Stevie Laurel [info]laurelluv, Temporary Character for the US Rueben Jones [info]hoodooblues, semi-Temp Petunia Dursley [info]petuney, Former Temporary/Now Perm Elena Kerr [info]crackthewall, and Perm Regulus Black [info]applefromvine. Also a mention of Leg's fabulous Temp-Turned-Perm Candy Reeser [info]bowerybitch and a big thanks to Fin who edited this mess!

Temporary Characters and Unaffiliated Characters: How to make them work in an Harry Potter Multi-Organization Game

I think people sometimes highly underestimate the challenge of a temporary or unaffiliated character. I’m putting both under this category because they both come with, in my humble opinion, similar pitfalls. For the temporary character—the player has a relatively short period to make them relevant and often few standard in-game connections. For the unaffiliated character, particularly ones who do not have standard canon, or in game pre-set connections, the character and player are inherently limited in the amount of posts they can respond and react to. Both of these types are, therefore, something that takes a little bit of effort to play.

Now, I won’t say I have always been successful playing temporary characters. I’ve failed multiple times in a hundred different ways—both in timing, how I decided to play a character, and my organization or lack thereof. However, I’m going to discuss here what I personally think helps make a temporary, or unaffiliated character, be able to lift off—however briefly. As I’m more intimately aware of them, I will be discussing my characters in each section as examples. It’s not because I don’t love other people characters but that I don’t know them quite as well. I’d love to hear other people’s takes, advice, and concepts.

These are my thoughts on <strike>Yaoi</strike> Temporary and Unaffiliated characters )

I'm pretty sure I found this here before, but I can't remember where and have tried to all of my ability and been unable to find it.

There's a LiveJournal that looks at British Slang specifically from the Harry Potter point of view. Do any of you fine people know the name of it/have a link?

It would greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Hi RP Tutorials! Long time lurker, first time poster, here. In my valiant efforts to put off schoolwork just before that Finals time, I created:

[info]theycouldbe

Basically, it's a database for finding PBs that could play relatives. ...Well, it hopes to be an awesome database for finding PBs that could be relatives. Members can post PBs they think could play siblings, aunts, children, grandparents, cousins, etc.; and there's a tagging system in place to make finding PBs as easy as possible.

Example: Your PB is Jenna Fischer, and you want to find someone to play her sister. You can browse the jenna fischer:sister tag to see suggestions.

It's kinda brand spankin' new -- there are only two posts at the moment! So I'm looking for awesome people like YOUS GUYS to head on over and post some suggestions! If I knew you in person, you'd get chocolate chip cookies... but as that's not the case you'll have to settle for my eternal gratitude :o.

For those of you that play in fandoms but still look through ~pbads in hopes that something will come up, I created [info]fanads that will serve a similar purpose. Only fandom advertisements will be permitted in the community, and hopefully it will prove to be a better source for finding games of that nature than ~pbads!

Well, I'm redoing the coding tables on the stuff I had previously done and this table had always kinda bugged me as a tad ugly... so I redid it. Hope you like the improvements. Lots of other stuff @ [info]rpglayouts
