RIP Darkersls

[info]rp_connect
[info]rp_tutorials
The loss of Darkersls has pushed me to create this: [info]plot_central. This community can be used to put your ideas forward for a psl or gpsl if you're searching for a plot line or have an idea you want to see if anyone bites at. Line requests or line ideas for games can also be posted there as well. Game ads are not welcome but can be posted to the sister community [info]rpg_connect. Right now it's only me running it, but if anyone wants to jump on board, feel free to poke me. Spread the word and join!

Community.

I don't know if this is allowed here, if not let me know and I'll delete it.

I've just made an ad community based on my own frustrations when looking for a game. I remember back on GJ there were a few fandom only ad communities that had been set up. So far the only thing like this I've seen is [info]fandom_psls but that's not very handy for actual games. There were a few communities on GJ that actually didn't allow Harry Potter game ads due to the sheer size of the fandom and amount of Harry Potter games which were being run at any one time and flooding ad communities.

So I've set up this with the hopes that we'll see more single fandom games of less popular fandoms being advertised where they are accessible and easy to sort through without 1000 Harry Potter ads. I've also included the request that people tag their entries to make searching for games specific to one particular fandom easier for players.

The community is [info]fandomads and posting access is unmoderated. I hope people find this useful.

I'd like to make one note that the rule against Harry Potter ads doesn't have anything to do with not liking the fandom or not wanting to promote it as I am a HP fan myself, however the idea behind this community is just to promote the less popular fandoms.

Another way to advertise your game!

Advertising a game is always the thing - how do you get your game to stand out from the crowd more? As some of you are probably aware, Hollow Art, as well as being a great place for people to go and get icons, bases and layout from, also offers a free game advertising service here, where you end up with an ad that looks something like this, but which also has a preview image (something like this) which desplays in two places. Firstly, the two latest ads to display are always shown on the front page (the length of time those ads stay on the front page depends on how many new ads are submitted) and also every ad on the site rotates through being displayed on the side bar - so every time someone reloads the page, or goes to a new page, then a new game pops up!

What's more, for those people willing to give Hollow Art some time, they're currently looking to do indepth interviews with game mods. This really gives mods a chance to talk about their game and is a great advert for their game and why people should look at them, rather than the other games out there. They publish the interviews on the front page and they automatically go out to anyone who has an RSS feed following the Hollow Art site - meaning that your game is guaranteed to reach people, even if they don't happen to be looking at the site! Sure, it takes a bit of time, but the interviewer has a soft touch and a sense of humour and it's an approach that will definitely make you stand out from the crowd. You can sign up to be interviewed here (though you need to be a Hollow Art member before you can sign up).

EDIT: We have just received feedback from our first hollow_art interview from the mods of the subject game. Aparently they received several new players from th exposure, plus their existing players were thrilled to see their game highlighted that way and it's really given the entire game a boost!

Hollow Art Ads

[info]peskyalice
[info]rp_tutorials
I've not yet seen this here and I thought I would share.

Hollow Art (which everyone might know for their icons) recently acquired a web site when they got too big for LJ. hollow-art.com features an RPG directory for advertisements and along with the directory, they feature a random game each time you click on a new page or refresh in the sidebar. Since many roleplayers use Hollow Art to search for PB's or icons, it's a handy place to host ads.

The directory itself can be found here and it can also be broken down by fandom, type, etc. for example: Harry Potter Fandom, Location: Livejournal, and femslash friendly.

Here's an example of what an ad looks like. As you can see it also lists the tags and the mini-image of your game banner that is features on the sidebar.

Instructions for creating an ad are here. You do need to sign-up for an account, but they're free and take about five minutes to create.

**Note: As seen in this post, mini-banners are useful for your games and the hollow-art ones are perfectly sized to use outside of the site as well.**

Subtle advertising

[info]advertisemyrp
[info]rp_tutorials
AKA sneaky ways of getting the word out about your game.

So you do your standard advertising in nearly every ad community known to man. You also talk to your friends online who RP, and spread the word however you can. But maybe that's not enough. How can you let random people know about your games without actively pushing them at strangers? Easy. Try mini-banners! Put them in your CDJ user info, in your personal journal profile. Manage an ad community? Link them there in the profile. Run an icon community? Stick it in your profile! Asks for affiliate games and use them there.

What do I mean by mini banners? Check the profile here for instance. Come for icons, see where the maintainers play. Maybe the banners pique the interest. Just be sure to make them catchy and colorful, like ad banners, without making them glaring.

I use to use these for website banners, and found that they do well for RP games as well. Try it and see what works for you!
