Hello my lovelies!

I looked all over the tags and can't find it, but I know there used to be a super helpful post on here with all kinds of tools for those of us stuck in the stone age and still using Firefox.

In particular, I am looking for a comment thread unfolder. I have recently replaced my old laptop and forgot to save what I used on there and am severely missing it. Any ideas on where that post of resources might be, or a thread unfolder for Firefox? Cheers!

Firefox Aurora

[info]tellthenight
[info]rp_tutorials
I just discovered this in my web design II class, and after playing with it some, I have to post about it. This may not help everyone, but it can be a great asset for those of us who design or tweak layouts, or just play with any of those design or coding languages.

ONE WORD OF CAUTION: This is a pre-beta release, so it's not perfect and there will be bugs. If this bothers you, I would strongly recommend waiting.

Resized Screenshot of Welcome Page

Firefox Aurora is a recently-released pre-beta build of Firefox. It may not be interesting for general users, but for those of us who RP and play around with web design/development, this is a pretty awesome tool. Supposedly, Aurora is going to incorporate HTML5, which is beyond cool. It also has some awesome new features, like a 3D view of problem areas in your website/layout. Like so:

See a screenshot (and more about this really awesome new tool) below the link. )

Anyway, this was so cool I had to share. I hope somebody else finds it useful! (If this isn't appropriate here, I'll be more than happy to take it down. <3 I may also have overtagged, so please correct me if I did!)

EDIT: My server is performing maintenance, so the pictures got temporarily moved to Photobucket. They were resized by Photobucket, so when they go back to my server, the full-size images will be big again, I promise. Sorry to anyone else who couldn't see them because of the server issue! ):

Firefox: Enable the http: in the browser bar

[info]fromamerica
[info]rp_tutorials
Sometimes updates make things nicer for the general user while making them more difficult for those of us who use the Internet slightly differently. Such is the case for me and Firefox's new desire to hide the http:// part of a URL. This makes me bat the fudge insane, as every time I copy a user name from the URL I end up getting the http:// stuck in front of it and have to go back and manually delete it. It's a minor thing, but I'm sure I can't be the only one who dislikes this.

I found an easy fix, not an addon, just turning two quick values to "false" that make the browser bar behave the way we're used to! Find it here.

Just a question about the ff add on gmail notifier. For the past few weeks it has not been working. When I look it says "there was an error connecting to your account- please check your email/password and try again". Then when I try to put in my password it still says that. I should mention I recently upgraded to ff 8 (or whatever the latest version is), but it was happening before. Is anyone else having this issue? Thanks

So, I just updated to Firefox 5 (when will I learn?), and now ljlogin is not compatible. Does anyone have a fix for this or do I need to downgrade back to FF4?

LJHook with FF4

[info]fromamerica
[info]rp_tutorials
LJHook has made RP'ing easier, and unfortunately it has yet to be updated to work with the new version of FireFox. But fear not! A simple code hack serves as a walk-around until an official is released. All you have to do is edit the code in the install.rdf file and change the "Max Version" setting from 3.2 to 4.0. Simple enough, but not everyone is comfortable hacking this kind of code. Even knowing what to do it took me a few tries to make it work. With that in mind, I'm providing you lovely people the hacked file to make LJHook work in FF4, just follow these steps:

1. Download this file, be sure you remember where you saved it to! File name is "livejournal_hook-3.2.2-fx.xpi" for easier reference.
2. Open up the Addons page in your FireFox. (Firefox menu > Addons)
3. Drag and drop the file you just saved into the Addons page.
4. Restart FireFox.
5. Enjoy LJHook again.

PS: I just tossed the file onto a MediaFire free account, so downloading it is kind of a pain, but it's the best I currently have. If anyone is willing to lend a little sliver of server space to let people download this more easily, you'd be amazing.

Okay, I'm asking here in an actual post, since I'm not sure how many people are still going into the previous ones to offer their advice. I want to like Firefox 4, I really do! I just have a few concerns, I'm hoping I can get them cleared up here! Thank you so much in advance! Here's some cute owls for your time.

Okay first of all, LJ-hook. It doesn't work, and there's a comment here about downloading an .xpi file or something? Which is all well and good but... I have no idea how to do that, so maybe that could help someone a little smarter than me figure out how to fix it for us? Or create a tutorial (I'll give you cookies!)? And if not that, then does anyone have suggestions on randomizing icons? I tried Livejournal add-ons and followed the tutorial here, even tried restarting my computer afterward, but it didn't work for me, so I think that's out.

Also, I believe it was actually my LJ-hook that did this for me, but does anyone know of an add-on that will work that'll do a mass check/uncheck all? That thing was a LIFESAVER when it came to redoing icons and removing lots of friends at once, and I NEED it in my life. Relatedly, since I'm new to the whole greasemonkey thing, any good tutorials/tips on scripts for that?

And lastly, I've got the version straight from the website, so I'm sure it's the most recent one, but for some reason, I don't have all the options mentioned here when I click on a tab. I have everything except "Move to Group" and "Rename this tab...", and I have no idea why. I think that feature could come in handy for me, so I'd like to solve it!

Question, what do you all (if any of you do) use as far as icon randomizers? I tried LJ-Hook a while back and couldn't figure out how to use it so if that's my only option, a quick explanation of how to get it to actually randomize my icons would be great.

So I took a quick peek and couldn't see this posted anywhere, mods feel free to delete if it has been. This was brought up in my game the other week in a post and it's too damn good not to share.

unfold all, aka the magic button that will make every comment show up without having to click a million and one thread links )

[Tools] Working LJLogin for Scribbld

[info]wastintime
[info]rp_tutorials
This LJLogin works with the new Scribbld.

Mediafire

Open it with Firefox.

***NOTE: YOU WILL HAVE TO RE-INPUT ALL OF YOUR SCRIBBLD USERNAMES AND PASSWORDS BECAUSE OF THE SWITCH TO .COM

I'm sure it will also be fixed in the next release of LJLogin.

Gmail Manager Firefox Add-on

I LOVE this add on. It's amazing for those that want to be able to check their actual email as well as a character's email or a mod email all at once. That way, they don't have to worry about logging into 1234234 accounts. Plus, I effing hate gmail notifier, so this makes me happy.

ReminderFox

[info]fromamerica
[info]rp_tutorials
Hey mods! I have found an awesome Firefox extension that I can no longer live without. Meet Reminder Fox, it takes the memory out of modding.

This thing is awesome, if someone places a hold, you can right click, set reminder that at 11AM in X number of days, their hold will expire. Need to be reminded about activity checks or group chats? Put it in once, and tell it to remind weekly, monthly or custom it to bi-weekly. It will pop up little alarm/reminders, and you can mouse over the tool to see today's reminders as well as a short list of the upcoming reminders, along with the date they will happen on.

This thing has made my life so much easier.
Nab it here.

Tineye - Reverse Image Search

[info]fromamerica
[info]rp_tutorials
Hey guys, I have an awesome tool for all you graphics/icon whores. Meet Tineye, this is a handy little tool that will search the Internet for the same image in other places. So... you find that image that you must have for an icon, but it's too blurry, has text on it, too small, etc? Paste the URL into Tineye and it will find you other versions of the same image.

But wait, there's more~! They even have a Firefox Addon so all you have to do is right click and search. It's still in beta, and requires an email address, but I used my RP address and have yet to have spam from them, only email I have received is their asking how well the search has worked for me.

Go forth and enjoy~!

Tired of the ugly icons and graphics on InsaneJournal? I've made a script that overrides them all and makes InsaneJournal a whole lot prettier. Interested? Just follow these easy steps:
  1. Install the Stylish extension (if you don't already have it) and restart your browser once it is completed.
  2. Go to the script's userstyle page here.
  3. Click the button that reads 'Load into Stylish' under 'Install options'.
  4. When a box pops up, click 'Save'.
  5. Enjoy!
