[ Claire is Not Okay. She's been thinking about home lately. A lot. And her thought processes were only spurred on further by a conversation she had with a friend the other day. Her mental state is only slightly masked; most of it is written all over her face. ]

I miss my family.

[ That isn't all she misses. She takes a breath, starting to speak, then stopping, several times before she finally finds the words to articulate the thoughts she wants to get out there. ]

I can't help but wonder if I'll get back home one day and everyone I knew will just be gone. Or too old to remember me. I think it's really starting to sink in that I'm actually stuck here, and that I'm going to outlive-- [ She has to stop. Her eyes start to well with tears, and her voice breaks a little... So she needs a second to get herself together. Suck it up, Bennet. ] - Everyone. Even the friends I make here. And even with my ability slowed down, if I age, it won't be normal. It'll be really, really slow. My dad would tell me it'll be okay, even if it's a lie. Mom would know what to do. I miss having that, even if nothing else in my life is normal anymore.

[ She doesn't really know where she's going with this train of thought anymore. She starts and stops again, then just shakes her head and shuts off the video feed. However, little to her knowledge, she left it going on voice. She doesn't intend for the rest to be heard, but there it is, broadcasting. ]

I don't want to be alone forever.

(( ooc; BACK FROM HIATUS FINALLY YAY ;A; ))

[The first thing that becomes evident is that Zatanna's been crying. Maybe not since she arrived. But for quite some time before then; her eyes are red and puffy, and she seems to have momentarily lost the aura of confidence that usually came with every smile. A smile she's forgotten.]

This...has to be some mistake.

I mean I know I--

But--

[She takes a deep breath, collecting herself. Steadies her voice.]

There must be somebody I can talk to. I can't stay here. I need to go home. I need to make it right.

Please.

[Sector 4 is a beautiful, landscaped residential area of the dome, where you'll find many homes, as well as parks, a butterfly pavilion, and a beach with an observation deck for the dolphins! It might be a little chilly for a swim, since it's still winter, but there's plenty of things to do.]

[Maybe you're visiting a friend here, or want to get zen by the meditation waterfall, or sit by the koi pond, or admire the massive cherry blossom tree still in full bloom. Or maybe you're just passing through on your way to the coffee shop in Sector 5 or the arcade in Sector 3, and waiting for people to ambush you!]

[So what are you doing? Anytime of day, with anyone! Just put down your characters and tag around!]
[ The 164th Day ]
23 April 2012 at 09:37 pm
Good morning, everyone. Today, is the 164th day of the third generation, and as promised, the facility will be experiencing a light dusting of snowfall throughout the day. Please bundle up appropriately if you are heading outdoors, especially anyone participating in the reconstruction of the Devil's Compass. I will have cocoa prepared at lunchtime for any crew who might be interested!

I have another, less sobering thought question for you all to consider. It was brought to my attention some time ago that the rapid changing of the seasons does not suit all inmates. As many of you have likely noticed, this facility has rapidly cycled through seasons, typically changing them once every other week. The purpose of this protocol is to keep inmates engaged in their surroundings with an ever-changing environment. I am considering changing that, but another inmate expressed a preference for the seasons to change faster, as they had been.

What do you think about it? Do you enjoy the rapid rotation of the seasons? Would you prefer it to always be spring? Would you rather it to be lengthened to something more representative of your world's seasonal span? Bear in mind that everything is adaptable: the passage of time within the dome does not currently reflect the passage of time, either on your home planet, nor this planet.

I kinda forgot we're 'sposed t' use these...

Um...thank you everyone who talk t' me when I got here. An' I found Brother! If anyone knows 'im, his name's Alois!

And, um. [ Don't mind the tiny, he's a little shy addressing everyone at once suddenly. ] My name's Luca. An' it's nice t' meet everyone. And I'd like if we could all be friend, okay? [ Because when you're a small child in a prison, having friends for the first time is priority. :T ]

[ Being locked up is one thing; being restrained just makes Faith's skin crawl. The fact that okay, yeah, she's kind of totally dangerous doesn't escape her but the problem here is she's usually the target of other dangerous things. Which means having a giant heavy ball attached to her leg makes her way more vulnerable. So the grunting and wheezing should be unsurprising as she tries to yank the chain off of the ball. ]

You think this is gonna help? Seriously, I get it. Normal prison wasn't cutting it, so you pull me out and dump me here. Fine, great. Three squares and a weird headset? All kosher. But this? [ She punctuates that by chucking the welcome basket away with a sneer. ] Ain't gonna cut it -- can't chain me up and dump in some graveyard like old times. I'm only declawed for humans, let's get it straight.

[ Though...now that she's looking around this place is pretty scarce for a graveyard. ]

Okay, what the hell is this? Whack-a-vamp? [ Stiiiiill trying to disable the old ball 'n' chain, here. ]

[Hello everyone, have a girl shifting back and forth in a very excited, but also nervous kind of way. She wraps her hand in her hand with a smile and waves with the other.]

Uh...hi! I know not everyone knows who I am, but my name is Rapunzel and I've been reading up a lot recently about things people do for fun with other people, because I love having parties, but I'm not really good at knowing what to do at parties--[she cuts herself off there with a sheepishly laugh]--yeah, so I got a few books and there was this one game that sounded really fun and I wanted to try it out with everyone. So...who would like to play a game of Truth or Dare? Like, right now!

The book said that someone asks "Truth or Dare?" and whoever's turn it is picks one or the other and the person who asked then asks a question for truth or gives a dare. You have to pick one or the other and whichever one you pick you have to do as best you can or you lose. And since we can talk to each other over the network we don't even have to be in the same room to play!

I mean...that is if you want to. You don't have to if you don't, but I just thought it could be a fun way to...well, have fun, and get to know each other, you know? [And as she stops her rambling she may be losing a bit of steam and becoming a bit more unsure. Maybe she should have thought this over a bit more before asking?] So if you want to play just say you're in and someone else can ask you "Truth or Dare." And uh...if you pick dare, you can just show it through the communicator, or meet each other face-to-face to complete the dare. Should be easy, right?

[a bit quiet she says under her breath] ...I think. Did all of that make sense? I hope that made sense. Maybe I should read the book again.

{OOC: THE RETURN OF TRUTH OR DARE EVERYONE. Just tag the post with "In!" or some way to let people know that your character is in on the game and others can tag them back as part of the game. Threads all start over the network, but can turn to action whenever you want. If you just want to respond to Rapunzel's video and not play the game, then tag the first thread at the top. For examples of how this could work, just check out this mock thread here.}

[hey, it's Flynn! and it's time for Flynn's I miss my dog hour]

[he's already had breakfast, done his jogging, gone through his practice forms, and now he's ended up in the pet cafe, again, playing with one of the puppies. it has been kind of a depressing day so far, so he came here to cheer himself up, but wouldn't you know it? it's just got him thinking about different melancholy things]

[and he just can't help himself but turn on the communicator]

It feels like a lot of people here have adopted animals. I see them out and about all the time. ...How many of you have pets back home?

Everything has turned out kind of funny, strange— well, in a really good way, I mean.

[ alois trancy, too feminine, baby-face with springtime sky giant daydream crumb eyes, is resting his chin against the edge of a desk. familiar to some, and not to others, pretty and light voiced. he isn't looking directly at the camera, he seems half preoccupied with watching something else not far off screen.

there are crayons, watercolors, paintbrushes, and pastel covered pieces of paper close by, even under chin.
]

I think I might be a little scared, [ understatement, ] by how wonderful things have gotten so quickly. What if I waste too much time blinking and everything good flies away? Only the best of the best, the things really worth having, like to fly off or drop dead. It always happens, and I keep expecting it not to happen at all, even though I know it will. I'm not so sure I'm not only just sleeping right now. It's so strange, things are so strange. [ there's a pitch in his voice here; his own reality is shaking him. when you go from being locked up without anything for four years, expect being beaten, and a quiet house, to have the things you desire most drop into your lap in rapid succession—isn't that cause for constant panic?

don't you want to cling tighter?

this is alois, now.

too long lashes lower half-way (they can't see it, but he's gazing at unprofessionally painted swans and adonis blues),
] I might be falling in love with Marina. Sometimes I have to close my eyes and make sure my heart hasn't stopped beating, run out of steam, from all the things pouring into it. I'm really—

Ah! [ suddenly, he's sitting up very straight, looking much more attentive than he had. ] That's right. An order of business: Ciel Phantomhive, just how long do you intend to avoid me?

[The shelter is clearly equipped for a celebration to mark the changing of wardens. Everything is neat and tidy, with decorations and a generous food spread laid over the tables for the taking. There’s also the usual entertainment in the common areas – TVs, video games, movies. Maybe you can talk someone into an impromptu karaoke party. Why not? Sentience doesn’t mind.

There’s a party to be had, so get down with your bad self.

Need an invite? Aren’t quite sure what’s going on? Well, here’s a friendly neighbourhood Judith to explain it to you. The camera feed pans over a glammed up corner of the shelter’s common area before going back to her face. It’s clear she’s pleased by the set-up.
]

If I had known this was planned, I would have made some special cupcakes.

[Are you wondering what goes into Judith’s special cupcakes? Keep wondering.]

I suppose after all the excitement from last night, it’s nice to have some fun and relax. I’m not sure it’s fair to have one party directly following another – but maybe I’ll get to make up for missed opportunities. [She wanted to kick a robot’s face in, okay.]

((OOC: Mingle post for Sentience’s party in the shelter! The shelter is decorated with streamers and there’s a feast spread! But only three types of ice cream, though. Create threads and tag amongst yourselves! It’s a celebration, anything goes. Backdated slightly to the early evening.

If you want to respond to Judith via video, feel free! There will be a thread for that right here! Notifs are turned off otherwise.))

Okay... so, I'm pretty sure this works? Or else I will be talking to myself which is kinda dumb.

[Flynn is kind of yelling at the network. Not exaggeratedly so, but he's really loud as he speaks. Forgive the grandpa with no experience at all with this kind of technology.]

So... not that I complain not being back at home, and I'm pretty sure I'd have gotten a way worse deal about these crimes if I had been found by the kingdom, but. You know, I happen to like knowing what's going on. Weird, I know. But indulge me a little.

I know that these- [He motions at the device he's holding] weird things do a lot of useful little things and I stopped trying to understand how they worked a while ago.

I know I'm, supposedly, in some kind of prison as well. Fair's fair, you caught me, it's how these things go. Not personal, I know.

But how did I ever get here? Where's the girl that was with me? How can I even breathe if I'm under the ocean? And be honest guy's, is this the frog's fault?

[the video flicks on to a shot of Luna staring at something off-screen. It must be very interesting, because she is totally not looking at the camera.]

I don't think it's very fair for us to be here. [she starts off, no doubt these words are ones that everyone has heard!] We are underneath the ocean after all. The mermen and the other creatures that live in these waters must be terribly inconvenienced. I wouldn't particularly enjoy having a giant dome built across my home. I'd have to swim around or over it to get to the garden, and that would take more effort and time than it would have just swimming straight across.

[she pauses and for a moment it seems like she won't continue.] Has anyone asked them what they think?

[anyone who comes across sector three will see Luna walking slowly in a...spiral. Yes, that's right. If she sees you, she will probably approach first!]

Uu...Uuu...

[The soft, muffled sound of sniffles floats in the air, voice feminine as the young brunette draws in a shaky breath. Sitting on the cool cement, slumping forward she cries openly into her hands. Long hair shakes, falling over her shoulders as her pale palms grow moist with her own tears. Beside her, a discarded basket sits untouched.]

Wh-what now?

[Hopelessly scrubbing her eyes with the backs of her hands, tears trickle in endless, cascading waterfalls down her cheeks. Her gaze never lifts, the weight of it too heavy beneath clear depression. Her brown eyes shimmer, lashes clumping as salty droplets gather to cling wetly before joining the rest. Her voice cracks, barely above a whisper as she speaks, brokenly.]

I really screwed it up this time. A-And now...I can't even contact them. Ohh...

[Head shaking, she once more buries her head into he palms on a high pitched sob, crying just that much more than before.]

[Sector 5 sees a lot of people over the course of a day. Many live there in houses or apartment complexes; many come there to shop for food or clothing; many come there to relax and have a meal; some even come for the entertainments offered by the bowling alley, the ice rink, or the Devil's Compass.]

[Anyone who walks into the shelter kitchen today will be smacked in the nose by the smell of popcorn. Gino has taken over the place with the stuff and there are at least fifteen bowls at his feet, already filled to the top - and there's more popping in the microwave! Gino looks not in the least bothered by the strong smell, but feel free to ask him what he is even up to.]

Man, Halloween was something else wasn't it? Makes me wonder how everyone celebrates Christmas here. It can't be as crazy as the events Milly used to throw back in Ashford. Probably. Maybe.

Right, anyway. I've got a serious question for you Marina. So think hard about it okay? [we pause for dramatic emphasis]

Red or green?

No. [the voice is masculine, irritated, and tinged with a British accent.]

No. No, all right? I don't care. I'm not telling you anything, you bastards. I don't care what set-up you've got here-- Eloquios Ocean, I'm certain that's not a load of shit at all. What, have you got a new Animus hack, plug us in while we're unconscious and-- and make us think you've got the power to put us in an underwater prison, through time and space and all, yeah? [a disbelieving snort.]

You lazy fucks. Wouldn't know an original idea if it came up and bit you on the arse, would you? No, you wouldn't. Just let me go, then, yeah, or get on with your uninventive torture and murder and suppressing the flow of information. All in a days work for you lot, right?

[A bit before "sunset," a softly smiling Lacus appears in the video.]

Good evening, Marina. Thanks to an inmate request, tonight we are going to observe a lovely meteor shower in the night sky using the star projector. I have arranged viewing areas on the beach with some light refreshments. However, you should be able to see the meteors from anywhere in the dome.

If anyone would like to see star patterns or other sky-scenes from their own worlds, please don't hesitate to contact me. If you have photos or descriptions I can make a program for the projector quite easily.

I hope everyone has a pleasant evening.

And about a half-hour after dark... )

[ Good morning Marina~!

Were you sleeping alone last night? Well now you have company!

Were you sleeping with someone? Well, you're still sleeping with someone, but maybe you'd like to give it a look-see, before you get too comfortable.

Are you sure this is your room? You might want to check though -- who knows if you're using the same design of lampshade or if your bed really is set up against the wall...

Whether you are in your own room or not, one thing's for certain, you're in for a surprise this morning! ]

(( OOC: Many pardons for the late, but here be your Morning After Prank all-purpose post! Do your threads here if you are so inclined, or make your network freak-out posts~ Have fun!

ETA: I have used the reveal table as a handy Thread Index. I'll update this as the event rolls along [last updated: 22 October, 12:40 p.m. EST] ))

It is a peaceful morning in the Shelter. In the dome above, the artificial daylight cycle has not yet begun. The halls echo with the gentle sounds of early morning residents milling around and robots going about their business amidst the even, sterile glow of the artificial lights. Yes, all is quiet and calm...

Until the alarm goes off.

Some will recognize that it is Sentience's voice -- not Acumen's -- that follows the echoing, whooping alarm that rings out through the halls of the entire Shelter and directs everyone to stay calm:

"Attention. Attention. An emergency has been reported in this building. Please, cease operations and calmly leave the building utilizing the nearest stairwell exit. Do not use the elevators. I repeat. Do not use the elevators!"

This continues on for many minutes, as denizens stir from their slumber or drop their meals and take to the halls. At least... it is expected that everyone follows the evacuation orders and strobe lights as directed. Elevators are non-functional for the duration of the alert. (But you can try to hack or override them if you want -- just expect someone to notice, later.)

As an added bonus: those in the kitchen and dining areas, sprinklers have activated, as that is the source of the disturbance. A perfect way to start your morning, right? (Don't worry -- there is a laundry cart with towels upstairs outside the exits.)

OOC notes! )
