The power outage had not been enjoyable. He'd spent most of his time going between the plant and his messengers to try and keep any backlash from the other tribes calmed. Thankfully the power had returned late last night and he'd finally been able to collapse into bed just before dawn. It was so hot inside that it likely would have been more comfortable to have slept outside in the grass, but he was so exhausted that he couldn't forgo his mattress. He woke up late the next morning after only a handful of sleep, but he felt refreshed and he'd lived on less sleep before. His talk with Junk had really gotten to him. He'd already known the things that she said to him, but to hear another person say his fears out loud disturbed him even more. He showered and dressed, happy that by this time the lodge had cooled down considerably.

He went to the kitchen for a drink and an apple before heading to Sumi's room with one of the same of her. He knocked, and waited. He hadn't really seen her since he'd asked her to go to the Trading Post for him on Wednesday and he wanted to relax a little now that the power situation was back under control. If the plant was acting up this much during the heatwave he worried what a deep winter might hold in store for them.

Jax finally felt like things were looking up. Despite the bad PR that the Jackals had been subjected to lately, their efforts at peace-making were going as smoothly as to be expected. The scary thing was was that Jax was getting a little used to the way things were. If he could just manage to keep Mac in line then things would be all right. He was in a rare good mood that day, and the soldier in him had not forgotten the date. It was the fourth of July and although he'd been a traitor to this country he had still fancied it his home and couldn't help but feel a hint of nostalgia, especially when looking back on boot camp. The military had been a lot of things for Jax, and one of those things had been a way of escaping his parents- specifically his father. That alone was worth celebrating.

He'd been busy overseeing lower trade values at the power plant and making the rounds to keep up morale and image. So busy that he hadn't had much to time to be with Sumi since their last talk. Not that he hadn't thought about her, in fact it was quite the contrary. He'd managed to wrap things up, get cleaned up just about the time that the shadows were getting long outside. Given that it was a holiday and the weather was amazing he figured a night out would be enjoyable.

For once he was wearing civilian clothes, and of the casual kind. It felt strange but comfortable. He knocked gently on Sumi's door, hoping that she'd be willing to go with him.

WHAT: She's doing what she normally does (namely not much) and he comes across her

Saturdays for Sumi were exactly the same as every other day. The same as Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, etc. Mainly because she didn't do much like the others in the tribe. Having been raised like she was, she really hadn't ever done an actual honest day's work. Cooking, cleaning and sewing didn't count. She'd thought that once she became a part of the Jackals that work would be entirely inevitable. And yet, for some reason, Jax didn't make her work. She didn't quite understand it, but she was entirely grateful for it. Goodness knows that she wouldn't be entirely useful at all. So, even amongst the Jackals, Sumi was still the princess that she had always been. Nothing different than normal, save for the fact that she was no longer among the family that had sheltered her and brought her up since her birth. Although, there was no doubting that the Jackals had just as much capacity to do horrible things as the Naotaka family ever had.

That morning she'd done the exact same thing as normal. She kept some semblance of a routine that she'd had before the virus. Of course, now things were a bit more limited than they had been in the past. So, Sumi spent most of her time that morning reading a book. Something that she'd taken from her father's library when she was a little girl. Oddly enough, it was a book about the family that her entire family had been descended from. Valiant and loyal samurai of an emperor of Japan. Hence the symbol that her family had always been known by. The kanji for the word 'samurai'. Every member of the Naotaka family had it tattooed on them and Sumi was no exception.

Sitting by one of the large windows of the lodge, Sumi was curled up on the windowsill and intently reading her book. She caught the scowls that some of the others gave her as they passed and it made her smirk to herself. Not all of them could possibly be treated like a princess.
