Charlie decided that, if they were ever going to reach a conclusion about this bullshit, someone was going to have to take charge. Proper charge. And that, he decided, may as well be him.

He jumped up onto one of the stocks and balanced himself, raised up above the milling people and standing on what was the focus of their conversations, if not their direct attention. "Okay, people. Look - I get it. We've been put in a shitty situation. Apparently, two people here have fucked up. Nobody's bothered to tell us how, or give us any information, other than the fact that we're meant to put them into these things here." He banged his foot hard several times against the wood. "So, we can stand here and argue about 'human rights' and 'cruel and unusual punishment' and what the fuck they will do to us if we don't bow to their every command. But, really, it comes down to a simple choice: are we doing this or not?" He let that question linger for a moment or two, then continued. "So, what I suggest is a really simple check. Everyone who thinks that we should go ahead with the punishment as mandated, go stand over by the tool shed. Those that think we should look up at the cameras and say 'fuck you' to the people watching? You go stand by the gym. Let's see what we all think. Vote with your feet people!" he announced, before jumping down, and heading right over to stand by the gym. He leaned against the building, waiting to see what everyone else would do.

Characters: everyone attending stocks-a-palooza
Setting: block A courtyard, early morning

Jae had read her notes on the computer. So this is where everything takes the turn into horror! went through her head. Jesus. She also read a note saying chickie-poo wasn't about to participate in a voluntary fashion.

Heading down to the courtyard, she checked out the stocks there. She imagined ones with just room for a head and wrists, but they weren't set up like that. These, she was guessing, were for ankles and wrists. Looking up at the sky, she didn't see many clouds up there.

Sitting down on top of the closest set of stocks, she waited for other people to arrive.

Setting: Block B - Farming area, late morning

Characters: Edan and Matt
Setting: near her room, afternoon

Edan wanted to run from Brady’s room, to put as much space between them as possible, but her room wasn’t actually that far from his, just around the following corner. Deep breaths, she chided herself gently, though, as always, her internal monologue sounded more like her brother than her own voice. Walk slower. Even steps to get there, lower lip pulled between her teeth to hold back tears.

He’d named his son after Evan. In honor of the man that saved his life. And he was here. He’d let himself get so far off course. She needed Evan here. She needed him to talk to the soldier, to remind him why his life was worth every breath. Edan knew he’d have the right words, the words that she didn’t have, not now that she didn’t even want to be around people. By the time she got to the door she was shaking, one hand flat against it to try and will the nerves away, to forget the part of her skin that felt heated from his touch, a result going so long without proper contact with another person. There was no way she could open the door with her hands shaking like this.

Setting: Library, 10 AM - 7 PM

Cal had to admit that he was nervous, something much easier to do when he was alone. But it was true, he felt the same acidic stomach flutters that had plagued him in his first days of residency, no matter how prepared he'd been then or was now. Though he definitely was prepared, situated in the library with a cleared table and his hefty box of supplies.

It helped that he was even somewhat mentally scheduled, having reviewed the journals before coming down here, a freshly written list of confirmed visitors waiting next to his kit, and under it? Score sheets, because Cal already knew that today would be invaluable for much, much more than physical assessments.

Setting: Cafeteria, early morning

Characters: Carmel and Matt
Setting: Library, around 2 p.m.

Carmel hadn't been avoiding exploring, exactly, but she was finally more in the mood for it. She'd gone ahead and peeked in the gym earlier, glad to see a bag she could practice her kick boxing on. She wasn't in the mood for that right now, though she might hit it up later tonight in an effort to be so tired she'd sleep better--and not fall into nightmares again.

She went to the library next, thinking she could use some reading material. She sighed softly when she came across some of the Nora Roberts' novels, fingering the spine of one. She hadn't been able to read a romance novel since she was raped; she hadn't been able to see it the same way. She missed her guilty pleasure reading, and she honestly missed romance. She missed having someone she loved with her, of having someone to love.

She sighed again and moved on, fingers skimming over the spines of the books as she searched for something to occupy her attention.

Setting: spiritual room

Characters: Matt
Setting: The second level hallway, mid-morning

Matt was pleased enough to find a map of the facility on his wall but it didn't contain nearly enough information for his purposes so he had printed off a second copy from the computer and set to work on it with a pack of pens he had collected from the activity room. The first step was to start assigning names to rooms, fairly easy given a number of his fellow residents had already put the information up in the journals, each with a small notation of any pertinent information that had been revealed so far. The two women who had commented on his journal, both of whom lived on his floor, had a mark put beside their names as persons of particular interest.

That really was just the beginning though, the truly important information could only come through walking around the facility; blind spots, places where he could watch from safely, vantage points. Slipping the map and a couple of pens into the pocket of his sweatshirt, he stepped out of his room and this time allowed himself to take a good look around. A small smile spread across his face as he realised that just standing outside his own door, he had an excellent view of the second level and through the window he could even see most of the courtyard.

Pulling out the map, he placed a small green circle on it beside his room and shook his head slightly in amazement as out of the corner of his eye he watched two girls begin to talk to each other under a tree in the courtyard. Recapping the pen with a satisfying click, he twiddled it between his fingers as he set off towards what the map described as the spiritual room - he could definitely get used to this place.
