I puzzled for hours over how to begin this memo to all of you. Do I begin with 'Dear Reincarnates,' do I address it in a very FDR fashion and call you 'My fellow Reincarnates.' As you can see I decided to forego the addressing and get to the meat of my message. Apologies for skipping the pleasantries if this makes any of you uncomfortable; the man who used to help me with my public addresses is no longer with us, and his shoes left a hole in our community that will be greatly difficult to fill.
We at the Agency know that it's been a difficult month for all of us. We have wounds that are fresh that haven't begun healing quite yet, and for many of us those wounds run deep. It's a tumultuous time in America for many Americans, not just reincarnates, in a land that is incredibly politically charged. Many, in these uneasy times, are afraid. We understand. You have every right and reason to fear in the wake of a terrorist attack against our kind, especially when it was almost immediately followed by at least half of a country voting in favor of hate on Tuesday.
I don't say this to scare you, despite the fact that these facts are terrifying. Reincarnates and mundanes have had a rocky relationship the past couple of years, especially with politicians such as Senator Scott working tirelessly to restrict our rights. It's unfair, it's despicable, and it's grotesque, but we will endure. I know we will, because I've lived long enough to see this type of hate win before, and we fought, and fought, and overpowered it.
I'm not saying it's going to be easy. I'm not saying that it's going to be a road paved in gold. The likelihood is that we're going to trip on roots along the way, we're going to get scratched up in this fight, but it doesn't mean we shouldn't fight. The Agency will not sit back and let these hateful men attack an entire country of reincarnates. We will be there every step of the way fighting for you. You have my word.
We still have a couple of months until January. Until then, I'd like to help us heal from what's already happened to us. To start that, we would like to invite you to a candlelit vigil next Saturday to honor those we've lost. We will not forget them.
