My name is Kingsley Shacklebolt.
You might have seen my name in the papers recently as I was one of the ones who had their personal information leaked to the public.
But plenty of people know me for more than that. They remember me as a kid in Diagon, getting underfoot and trying to sneak behind the counter or in the back rooms of other people's shops. Lots of people know me by my name. My last name's on a list and that's supposed to mean it's important. People think the random chance of my parents means that I'm better than my fellow witches and wizards.
When really it means bugger all.
Purism is a poison. I think this needs to be said more and by people who are thought to have important names. Muggles are clever, creative and inclusion of their advances make us better. So do Muggleborn wizards or witches. We should be thanking them - if it wasn't for Muggles we'd have died or be born with extra toes from inbreeding. Adaptation and inclusion make our world great.
If we don't stand up to Purist violence then we have responsibility in it.
We can do more. For my part, publishing my address isn't going to stop me from doing my job. Also, since I never had to worry about fitting into the wizarding world, I volunteer to help those new to it. I don't know if this exists already, but I to volunteer to help young Muggleborn students new to Hogwarts and their families get used to things. I can act as a guide in Diagon, answer questions, whatever's needed.
