An Experiment
Characters: Ru and Zach
Setting: The bar, morning
After messaging Ru the last time, Zach found something to wear and headed towards the bar in the basement. He was still in his glasses as the blinking computer had woke him early enough to not want to bother with the contacts. They were nice, but at the same time, he was used to the glasses more than the contacts at this point.
He hadn’t been in this room yet, having little use for a bar, but it did look more like something a person would find outside of the walls of the facility than he would have guessed. Though at the same time it looked like something out of a movie or television show and given that he’d spent very little of his time in bars in the first place, he wasn’t exactly the expert on such things.
Ru was sitting at the bar, with a fruity looking drink in front of her. She glanced back when the door opened, and she smiled, waving. "So, you made it." she observed. "Come, have a seat. We can talk about interesting things, and wait for the screaming to start."
Zach was a little slow in his walk towards her, still not sure what to make of the moment and the offer to spend time with her all together, but he joined her nonetheless. “Interesting things?” he asked, assuming she already had a topic in mind.
"Yes. Such as, now that we're being unobserved by big brother--supposedly, do you have anything to say that you otherwise may not due to said observance?" she asked, arching a brow at him. She leaned in close, narrowing her eyes as if she could read his answer somewhere on his face.
There was never much to read on Zach’s face, but that was just him. He considered her question then shook his head. “No. Nothing comes to mind. I do have a question though if that counts.”
"A question counts." Ru told him, turning to focus her attention on him. "So, hit me. What is it?" she asked, highly curious.
"How exactly do you intend to feign rehabilitation in order to get out of here to carry out your mission?" He'd been curious about that when she suggested at not being done with things. He wasn't sure what rehabilitation they expected of him, as he hadn't had a reason to repeat his crimes, but she hadn't finished. That as different.
"Technically, I'm not a danger to society at large." Ru told him. "I don't have to feign anything, in my estimation. Plus, I don't actually have plans. It isn't up to me, what happens afterwards." It was up to Wu, end of story on that particular score.
“Nor am I, but I imagine they have some expectation noted in some chart somewhere for me.” He had, after all, calculated and murdered three men before he was caught. Frowning ever so slightly he tilted his head at her. “Why wouldn’t it be up to you?”
"They probably do." Ru agreed. "Which is why I'm not so subtly encouraging you to do things like make friends and talk to people and become more acquainted with society." she added. "If you manage to form real connections with people, it'll look better for you." She took another drink then looked back to him. "Because I follow one man, and one man only. He calls the shots. What I did was off book as it was."
“And you? Will you be making connections with others?” he asked her, propping his chin in one hand to watch her. “That begs the question of who the man is and why you felt the need to go off book.”
"I'm making a connection with you." Ru pointed out. "I plan to continue the trend." she added. "As for who, maybe I'll tell you sometime. Why I went off book was he was taken out of the picture, and it was down to me and a few loyal associates to take care of business."
“Continue the trend with others or with me?” Zach asked. He wasn’t sure what that meant and he felt like he should probably straighten that out. “So you took it upon yourself to make a call. You sure he’s going to be around when you get back?”
"Both." Ru answered. "I'm sure." She imagined eventually he would put together that she was talking about Wu, but for now, she thought he would have a mystery to unfold. Or he would just not care, she wasn't entirely certain where he might fall in that.
“At least you’re sure of it then,” Zach said nodding. She was closer to right in thinking that he didn’t care at the current moment. Maybe it would keep him awake later, considering who she might work for, but at the moment, he was fine to take it on the surface as it was.
"There is comfort in simple confidence in things." Ru said. "Now, enough about me. What are we doing with this day?" she asked curiously, taking another drink.
“I didn’t realize that there needed to be a plan,” Zach said, voice slightly lower and with a touch of humor to it. She had been talking about being spontaneous hadn’t she? “Though I suppose it begs the question of what one does with sudden privacy from one’s overlords.”
"Sex in public places." Ru said, so even it was impossible to tell if she was kidding or not. "I've thought of a challenge for both of us. Every day, or every other day, we need to meet someone new, and find out three things about them. Then we compare notes." she said. "It'll keep things interesting and give us something to do."
For a moment Zach's eyes widened. He never gave much away but he was visibly unsure about her mention of sex. It just wasn't something he considered to understand, though that could have been written off as lack of experience. "I suppose that's...plausible for others." Her challenge gave him something else to latch onto and he did. "A pastime and forced interaction with others. Seems reasonable." And it made meeting new people slightly more appealing if he was meant to be studying them.
She smirked ever so faintly at his reaction to her mention of sex. She'd figured he'd have one. "Could be plausible for you too," she told him, though then let the subject drop as she moved on. "I thought you might like that. So, let's do it. It'll be interesting, if nothing else."
That comment, that he couldn’t let drop even though he really was sure he should. “I don’t think it is...Hasn’t before.” Zach didn’t like admitting that and found himself looking away from her and nodding. “It’s like a study. Which makes more sense.”
"You're a virgin? I'm sure there are people here who would find that interesting." she told him. "And you can't expect to get up to bat if you never attempt to play in the first place." she added. "And yes, it's like a study."
Zach closed his eyes and wish he’d kept his mouth shut. Or wished he didn’t ask his next question. “What kind of people? And I don’t think I ever worried about being up to bat. I’m not much of a sportsman.”
"Please tell me you understood I was using a metaphor." Ru said. "And I don't know. First, I imagine you would need to work out whether you wanted to stick parts in a male or a female." she said. She couldn't get a read on his sexuality in the slightest. And since he seemed absolutely bereft of opinion on things, she didn't know if he'd thought about it much or not.
“I did understand. I actually have a sense of humor,” Zach said. The requirements for the answer to his question had him struggling, not sure what to say to that. Honestly he hadn’t given it much thought and he fell silent for a moment before pushing it aside. “I don’t think it matters one way or another.” Because he didn’t know.
"You may wish to work on smiling or giving an indication of said humor." Ru told him, not unkindly. "Then your next step is to find someone you find attractive."
That earned her something close to a smirk and he glanced at her, but it faded at her next step. “I thought we were discussing what kind of person might find my...lack of experience interesting, rather than how I planned to change the situation.” Zach knew the more they got into things the more likely it was going to be obvious that he didn’t have a plan to do as much.
"Yes, and your chances of success will be a whole lot higher if you at least pick someone who might stir something in your shorts to start with." Ru told him. "It's simple chemistry." she added, putting it in those terms to help him with understanding. "You plus someone you're attracted to equals a much higher possibility of combined chemistry. It wouldn't do to go get naked with someone, then find out that they don't even merit a twinge from Mr. Trousersnake."
Zach turned to look at her, one eyebrow raised. “While I believe your logic with the chemistry aspect of the situation, I don’t connect with people like you think.”
"I didn't say to do it like everyone else. I'm saying to take a look around, and honestly give it proper thought, proper consideration, and see if anyone sparks anything. If no one does, then that's a shame. But again, you can't test anything out if you refuse to go for it." Ru told him.
He was quiet considering the people he’d met before. The artist was interesting, in the way he believed in his art. Then there was Ru, who had managed to catch his attention more than most. He wasn’t as much invested in her, he was curious about her. Looking over at her, he almost laughed, but not quite. “You might be the closest.”
Ru arched an eyebrow. "Well then, scientifically speaking, we would have to conduct an experiment." she told him.
Zach wasn’t sure he was ready for that. He knew enough to guess that was a suggestion of something, just what he wasn’t sure. “Parameters?”
"Increasing proximity, to determine if there is a reaction. Should there fail to be one, we will consider it a failure, and you will need to choose your next target." Ru told him, downing her drink.
Honestly, Zach couldn’t quite deny her logic. It was sound and despite his concern with just how it might go, or what the results might be, he couldn’t argue with it. “Seems...logical.”
"Which I know you appreciate." she said. "So. The question becomes--where do we knock this out?" she asked. "Your room? Mine? Some other location?"
Zach found himself swallowing not sure what exactly he’d agreed to but he was being presented with a situation that needed an answer. “I would say wherever you feel most comfortable.” Especially since he was pretty sure he wasn’t going to be comfortable.
"My comfort is hardly relevant. You're the subject of this experiment, it's got to be focused around you." she told him. "Therefore, it's up to you. Trust me, I'll be just fine wherever."
"Your room is fine." Zach doubted he'd be entirely comfortable there, but letting her into his space wasn't something he wanted. That seemed like an invasion of sorts that he wasn't ready for. He was too used to solitary, even before prison.
"Let's go." Ru said, setting her glass down so she could head out of the bar. She led the way to her room, not stopping on the way just in case he changed his mind. Which, she actually imagined he would do. She even imagined this would in fact, fail. But she was willing to give it a shot, at any rate. Letting them into her room, she walked inside. It was sparsely decorated as of yet.
They were just going. Just like that. Her lack of hesitation was for the best because Zach found himself following after, not sure what to expect. Her room didn't look that different from his, but he still found himself looking around like something might be drastically different, even if it wasn't. "Should we start?" He asked after assessing her room.
"Couch or bed?" she asked.
That had Zach thinking there were too many variables to this. He looked between the two and settled for the one that seemed the most comfortable, though the logic behind it beyond that escaped him. “Bed.”
Ru walked over to the bed and dropped down onto it, toeing her shoes off. She crooked her finger at him, beckoning him closer. "Let the experiment begin."
Zach had no real clue what he’d gotten himself into or how deep she planned on taking the experiment, but went where she beckoned, sitting next to her. Unsure of what to do with his hands, he kept them in his lap, watching her instead, wondering where she’d start.
She shifted, getting closer to him, watching his expression as she did so. "Have you ever fantasized?"
When he swallowed this time it was a little harder, as was meeting her eyes. “I’m sure everyone has at some point.” He could feel that she was closer, invading his personal space, but while the urge to pull back as there, he didn’t indulge. “I believe the real question is ‘what’?”
God, this was pulling teeth. But Ru didn't show any frustration at his clearly obtuse questions. "I would imagine you know the answer to that." she told him. "But let's just go with fantasizing anything that excited you."
Zach was better at questions than answers and for a moment something twitched across his face. His first thoughts were the murders. It hadn’t excited him sexually, he wasn’t like that, but once he’d decided, he’d fantasized about them, always eager for the time to come when he could take care of what he felt needed to be done. It took a moment to force his thoughts the right way but eventually he got there. “I’m afraid it’s not very exciting to anyone else, but the prospect of finding someone who was willing to force their way through my discomfort and lack of understanding and make me understand the appeal, that was enticing.”
"So you would want to be dominated?" Ru asked, arching a brow. She smiled, though. She could do that.
“That would...” Zach started and stopped mid-sentence realizing he didn’t have an answer to that. Nor was he really sure how to respond to that look or that smile.
When Ru moved, it was quickly. She moved til she was straddling him, hands gripping the headboard on either side of his head to 'trap' him there, or at the very least make it harder to move. "Answer." she said, tone much more commanding than before.
Shit. Zach thought it was interesting that his first thought was nothing more than a swear word, but that was all he had when she moved like that, essentially pinning him in place. The different tone, that was somewhere well past interesting and honestly, Zach didn’t hate it. “Yes,” he went with, considering that might very well be what this little display was and he didn’t hate it either.
"Close your eyes." Ru told him, in that same no nonsense tone. A command, as it were. She definitely wasn't seeing him cringing here, so she was going with this.
Zach wasn’t sure he was ready to be without his sight, but for the sake of the experiment and maybe because of that tone too, he did as she said. It was strange, not being able to see what she had planned next, but maybe part of it was thrilling too.
Ru smiled to herself when he complied. Then she reached down, and grabbed her pillow, tearing a wide strip off of the case. Then she tied it around his eyes, just in case he entertained the notion of opening them up. Then, she leaned forward, and nipped at his neck, without warning.
The blindfold was jarring, leaving him feeling vulnerable without his eyes, and while he didn’t pull away or stop her, he did flinch severely. When she nipped at his neck, Zach gasped, not expecting it, but not because he was blindfolded, but more because of the choice of action. Nipping his skin like that was so fierce and headed in a direction he didn’t plan on. Still, he didn’t stop her, even slightly arching his neck to give her more purchase.
That was a reaction. She took that as a good sign. She gave his neck a few more nips, going toward his ear. She also slid her hand down his torso, toward his stomach and lower. The lower she got down, however, the slower her progression went. "Not adverse to the feel of my teeth?" she murmured in his ear.
It was hard to pay attention to her when her hand was moving down him like that. He wasn’t one to give in to touch easily, or at all, but that was really distracting, especially when the pace tapered off. She got another reaction, him shifting into her touch as he shook his head. “No.” It was honest, and straightforward, but his voice didn’t quite have the same tone as it had when he’d spoken earlier.
With him shifting around, she was on the right track. She kept the slow progression, making him really wait for even slight pressure where he may want it. "Do you like it?" she asked. "And be descriptive." she added, to give him a separate directive.
“Yes,” Zach admitted, though it did sound slightly like a question. “I wish I could see where you were going.” But instead he just had feel, and that slow progression lower, which he really felt should be going faster.
"Maybe at some point you will. But you'd have to ask very nicely." Ru told him. She nipped at his earlobe, right as she finally did drift her touch low enough to see if he was really all that interested in what was happening.
He wasn’t sure he knew what that meant. He got the basics of it, but he had a feeling he was missing some innuendo that was too subtle for his lack of experience to clue him in to. As for if he was enjoying it, he actually was. Maybe not completely, but when Ru’s hand wandered down, Zach gasped again and there was definitely something there for her to notice.
"Here we are." Ru said, giving light, slow strokes through his clothes. "Do you know what this means?" she asked.
The touches made Zach squirm and he managed through a few of them before he was reaching blindly for her hand. “That I’m not dead.”
Ru slapped at his seeking hand with her free one. "You don't have permission." she told him. "If you want it you ask for it." she instructed. "And while it does mean that, it also means you are capable of sex of some description." she said. She stroked harder, rather under the impression it wasn't going to take a ton to get him off. Not with as inexperienced as he clearly was.
“Can I...” Zach started but then she changed the pressure and the words got lost in another sound. She wasn’t stopping, which had been his intent because it was making him slightly uncomfortable, not sure what to do with the attention. The change in her motions though pushed past that first layer of discomfort and had him gripping the sheets and gritting his teeth. He knew that sensation, but hadn’t really had the chance to have someone else get him there.
"Cat got your tongue?" Ru asked. That, as she upped the pace, the pressure. She figured this step would at least show him something. He could run with it after this point, or at the very least, he would stop discounting the entire idea.
For a man who usually showed very little, Zach’s face was giving away more than it ever did. He was trying to fight the occasional noises, but the change in pace earned her a moan, and his fingers dug deeper into the sheets. Holding out wasn’t even an option, not at the realization of who it was, straddling him, touching him, and bringing him to that edge that hit him hard. There was a strangled cry, and his hips bucked out of his control for a moment, but then it passed and Zach was left shaking, panting for breath, completely unable to answer the questions in his head.
There. She thought, satisfied with a successful experiment. Especially considering she'd assumed it was doomed to fail. Shifting off of him, she reached up to untie the blindfold, sitting back with a light smirk on her features. "Conclusions on the experiment?" she asked.
Zach blinked when she removed the blindfold, eyes adjusting slowly, contacts blurry for the moment until he managed to get her into focus. He tried to shift his position, feeling massively uncomfortable for a variety of reasons and couldn’t quite meet her eyes. “I’m not sure my head has caught up yet. You?”
"Clear success." Ru told him. "You do respond, to touch and other stimulation. You can maintain interest in the right circumstances, and you seem to have gotten swept away with it all. Therefore, you are absolutely capable of all of it, and can now enter it into your future pursuits."
“I think getting swept away wasn’t that difficult,” Zach said, even if it was unlike him. “I still think I lack the emotion behind it, but capable is a good result.” Even if it was currently an awkward state for him to be in.
"And yet, any other time you spoke with me about it you would have had me believe that that particular thing was impossible, and that you wouldn't enjoy anything like this." Ru pointed out. "Emotion can always come later. Or not at all. Doesn't mean you can't get something out of this type of thing. It's just up to you what you do with it now." she said, reaching out to take his wrist. she tied the makeshift blindfold around it. "As a reminder." she explained.
“I think I was also explicit about my lack of experience.” Zach nodded in agreement. He didn’t need to have the emotion. People didn’t all the time. He watched her tie the blindfold around his wrist with a curious look, but didn’t stop her. “Seems like a good one.”
"I thought it might be." Ru said. Also, she was hoping that looking at it would remind him of the experience. She was curious what he would do with it. "Now, I imagine you need a shower, and we both have people to meet, do we not?"
Zach managed to move away from her and off the bed, still not quite comfortable, but enough to get himself back to his room. “We do. And reports that need to be made. Until then?”
"Until then. Thanks for meeting me, Mr. Briar." she told him, smiling. "It's been educational."
It certainly had been. Zach managed a nod in her direction and half a smirk before he headed out and straight towards his room.
