First off, let me just explain just how very little I know about what I'm doing. Seriously, I know next to nothing about making icons. But after discovering so few icons available for my pb's of choice - particularly POC's, I've decided to try and make them on my own. I don't have Photoshop but I was wondering if Pixlr was similar? Could icons - I was hoping to master that gorgeous glossy sort I see so frequently being used, with that program? If so are there tutorials specifically for Pixlr?

are there any icon communities out there still taking requests or is that just a thing of the past? anyone out there willing to make a few ( less than ten ) for me?

Hey guys! I've decided to open up my own icon journal here at IJ. I've made roughly 600 icons in the past over at livejournal and have decided to get back into making them again. This time around I would really like to focus on making deco icons as most of what I make are bases. So any thoughts on themes or ideas would be great. I use Art Studio on the ipad and GIMP on the computer.

The Entire CS2 Suite Free including Photoshop CS2. All you need to do is create a free ID with Adobe. Adobe has released it themselvesand you can get it right from the Adobe site.

Hi! I was wondering if anyone knew of icon makers who are taking requests? I've found a DVD screener of Les Mis that I can cap if someone would be willing to turn them into icons? Any and all help would be appreciated! I know of a Javert, Jean Valjean, Cosette, Fantaine, and Marius that would be very thankful!

I have had an awful lot of people comment asking how I make my icons (see also, lovibond), so after explaining it to someone entirely lovely, I thought perhaps some other people would like to know. I do not have an action, but if someone wants to make one (and share it) I will post it here. I do each layer by hand. With that said:

I was disappointed to see that iconwatch had been deleted. As I often used that list of icon journals as a handy link to have, it was a bit of a pain not to have one anymore. So, I created this one over at iconlist. It's not quite as extensive as wikicon, but I find there's a bit of everything listed.

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this question. Figured I'd give it a shot but I apologize if its been asked before. As a non- icon maker I was just wondering if there were any communities out there that still took requests? A while ago there were several but they've since closed.

whats the best way to make icons? i have photoshop elements, and i try making icons there, but they never turn out the way i want them too. are their any tips and/or suggestions?

I have uploaded a photoshop "action" for those of you who don't want to follow step by step instructions on how to make icons such this.

The action can be downloaded here. In the folder you'll find one for any size image and one that resizes any evenly cropped image to 100x100 for you.

Also, you might try playing with the opacity and such in your photoshop "history" if the icons aren't exactly to your liking when the action completes.
