(Her voice is a low, soft purr, with the sharpest of smiles lacing every word.)

Take great care and stay huddled up inside if you're the sensitive sort. It will be quite cold tonight.

I, on the other hand, will be dancing, if you dare to join me.

So, here's the thing.

I thought, given everything, it would be nice to have some homemade treats instead of ones that a fae of feasts or food or sweets magicked into existence—and, really, thank you for that, Ashtara, we all appreciate your efforts. So, as one does, I went to the Starlight Palace's kitchens. Since that's where you go to make food.

Apparently, I did not end up in the Starlight Palace's kitchens, but having never actually gone to the kitchen before, I was not aware of this until after I accidentally used the Unseelie King's workshop to create sentient Sugar Plum Fairy Dolls, Gingerbread Men, Marshmallow Snowmen, and something that might be burned molasses but I'm honestly not sure.

[Distantly, there is the sound of shouting. Something explodes.]

They've decided to wage war on each other as they each attempt to establish a sovereign kingdom.

This is my gift to you this Midwinter. If someone might be interested in helping negotiate a peace treaty, that would be great. If any of you more litigiously inclined fae want to defend me from the Unseelie King, that would also be great.

[A pause.

There's another explosion, a resounding shriek, and something like a canon sounds in the distance.]

They've weaponized the candy cane.

Please hurry.

Considering what a mess there was earlier, should anyone feel that they'd prefer not to risk sleeping and encountering whatever mayhem that might entail... my services are always available.

I need help finding flowers in winter.

It's for a good cause, I assure you.

Please, I beseech you, help me.

[It's hard to place the emotion in her voice but there is no mistaking how far away it seems - galactic distances even in its waver. She isn't anywhere out in space. She's still at the gala but there is a thoughtfulness that has overcome her and has made her temporarily aloof.]

[Her voice rises with each word, growing in anger]

Midsummer is supposed to be about celebration and happiness and this isn't helping. I'm sick of these things happening and everyone falling into fits over themselves and crying. If we're going to have additional entertainment, it should be productive to revelry.

And I'm honestly too frustrated to care that we've got all these unhappy feelings and they're reminding me of all the horrible things to come to worry about angering our King and Queen. Maybe I'll be lucky and they'll smite me so I don't have to go through the seasons' change.

Mortals, if I could peel the skin from your bones I would. If the King gave me permission, I'd strip the life from nearly every single one of you.

But I can't. Be happy.

[He sounds about as nostalgic as a millennia old fae can be. The moratorium on bloodshed is something he can live with, but he does miss it. He can't help reminiscing as his time draws near. It used to be so vital.]

This year's festivities have been entertaining. The truce has managed to hold much to the credit of the King and Queen. Yet I find myself remembering the feasts of centuries past. They seemed so much more [...] vibrant. Even the celebrations in the mortal realm were different then. There was such urgency. There was so much life.

[The voice is distinctly masculine with an amused lilt to it. For those who know him, there is no mistaking who it is.]

Another ball. Has it really been so long since the last one?

[His voice is deep, rich, and wonderfully, vibrantly alive. It's also a little... off in some not quite defineable way. It has been a while since he has used it and the lack of practice is noticeable.]

I was delayed. A problem arose that required my attention. I trust I did not miss much in my absence.
