I heard a rumor that being light of foot is the best trait to have. Well, and those that place their trust in the sureness of stones are headed down the safest path.

[ Horn's statue sits on the throne, head tilted, looking up. If you follow its gaze you will see two rope ladders hanging down from what looks like ... well, you can't really tell as it's pretty far up. But it might be a bridge, a platform? Something. ]

Speed, speed, heading forward as fast as you can! A reward that can be tucked away is waiting for you, perhaps. But the slowest will be left behind, or maybe they will find themselves further down ... how do you feel about fortresses? All walls should be scaled!

[It's been two days of mad planning. The walls of Pavo's common room have been covered with skcetch after sketch, debates on position, size, rates of flow and whether clockwise or counterclockwise motion is more visually appealing. Materials were tested and retested, soaked, broke, stained and drained. Too excited for sleep, trips were made in the latest of hours; to the forge, to the mushroom forest, to the dimly-lit river's edge.

'Measure twice, cut once' was never so thoroughly applied. Every board was planned before the first log fell. Every ounce of metal accounted for.

But it's today, today that it all comes together. Holed away in a dead-end tunnel so conveniently close to the river's falling hiss, boards are cut, holes drilled. Conversation comes in bursts of whispers, laughter muffled in a sleeve, or cut short with a pensive look to the tunnel's first turn. There are no deadlines to keep, but the press of time is motivation enough, the itch in the fingers and the heart of how long has it been, lifetimes almost, since something last came alive under their hands.


. . . which, even all together, may not even begin to explain why a pair of Pavo are carefully rolling a giant wooden wheel down to the far side pf Pygnus's fertile ground, to where an odd mix of gears, two chiselled stones, and a triangle-shaped rest have been placed carefully at the river's mouth.]
