School is going to start back up soon. So I guess I have two choices - start shopping for supplies or find something fun to do before I buckle down and study.

The last week of the Columbia science summer camp classes starts tomorrow. I've been having so much fun aside from worrying about Peter. Next month will be prepping for the new school year. Fun - biochemistry, genetics.

Other than that - StarkTech Conference. I want to go.

Social Media: 'Excelsior-Gee! News' live-blog chat.

ParkourLuck: Ughhh! Why can't I be in San Diego right now?! Hall H people are walking to a Star Wars concert?!?! I want to hear the new music! Okay it may be the energy drink talking but between that, Lego Doctor Who, and new Legend of Korra comics, I feel permanently scarred that I'm trapped on the far side of the country. Not that I was able to go to NYCC either.

If anyone can record the concert, please upload it to youtube. I gotta hear this music!!!111one1!!

I'd forgotten that I really love discount chocolate day. There's nothing like stocking up for practically nothing and eating it while you watch one of your favorite movies. Especially when it's so cold out.

NYU shut down early so I had to drop by New York Public library for a short while.

Sadly, I didn't get stuck there with Jake Gylenhaal, but at least that's good news that it's not the end of the world?

TEXT MESSAGE TO PETER PARKER
-- Attached pic
-- Merry Christmas, Parker!

Nov. 9th, 2014

[info]notaboutheroes

When you see the good in someone, you don't give up on that someone. Even when they don't see it themselves.

This Tuesday is Remembrance Day. For every man or woman who has been beside me in a foxhole, and for every man or woman who gave of themselves to further the cause of personal freedom and collective independence, you have my respect. And whether your battlefield was on the sea, in the air or in the shadows -- it's your efforts, and your protection that keeps us safe.

Here are some facts about the veteran community you might not know:
  • Veterans between the ages of 18 and 30 are twice as likely as adults in the general population to be homeless, and the risk of homelessness increases significantly among young veterans who are poor.

  • Roughly 56% of all homeless veterans are African-American or Hispanic, despite only accounting for 12.8% and 15.4% of the U.S. population respectively.

  • About 53% of individual homeless veterans have disabilities, compared with 41% of homeless non-veteran individuals.

  • Half suffer from mental illness; two-thirds suffer from substance abuse problems; and many from dual diagnosis (which is defined as a person struggling with both mental illness and a substance abuse problem).

  • Homeless veterans tend to experience homelessness longer than their non-veteran peers: Veterans spend an average of nearly six years homeless, compared to four years reported among non-veterans.

    http://www.greendoors.org/facts/veteran-homelessness.php

  • Join me at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, 11/11 for a remembrance gathering in Battery Park. Join me to make lunch for our veterans in NYC. We'll have music, and we'll have opportunities to meet one another. There will also be employers and colleges looking to partner with veterans to give them a running start.

I talked to Christine Everhart. She's an award winning investigative journalist, and she wants to hear your story.

    So! I'm curious.

    What is your favorite:
    1. Book/book series
    2. Movie
    3. TV show
    4. Album
    5. Fashion trend
    from the last five years?

I might come up with other questions, but that's all I have so far.

I've been contacted by someone claiming to be Sitwell, & we are meeting. This is just an FYI in case it's a shot across the bow from HYDRA. I'm going alone.

Fashion Week in New York City, running around for work throughout the day, parties every night.

    I love what I do.

    [Private to Natasha]

A parcel is being sent to the Tower with the outfit you wanted me to design. Sorry for taking so long, I've been really, really busy. It was fun putting it together. Let me know how it goes.

Maybe when you come back, we can hang out together? I know this wonderful day spa we could go to!

So, I'm thinking and most anybody can tell you that's a dangerous pasttime. But I'm thinking about how, when I was a kid, I had to scrape (literally scrape) and fight for art supplies, or school supplies of any kind. The NYPD are doing their best to find the girls who are missing, and we have to make sure that them and all their friends have every implement they need to learn.

I'm asking you right now to lend a buck or two - or more - and donate supplies to local schools in the area. You can bring your donations to Stark Tower, and leave it in the lobby. We'll be sure to disburse it.

[SHIELD, SGS, OPERATION BARNES BAITING PARTICIPANTS]
To each and every one of you who took part in bringing Bucky back to the United States, and bringing him under our protection, I give you my thanks. Besides being my best friend and brother of many years, Sergeant James Barnes has the distinction of being America's longest serving prisoner of war. He was owed our devotion in bringing him back to the fold.

Our work in Havana was the first step in a journey whose distance we are only beginning to map out. So, I beg your patience. And I beg your understanding. Most especially, I beg you to remember that HYDRA is the enemy and HYDRA is still present in the world. We have data, and we have intel. Our organizations have been methodically shutting down HYDRA cells across the world. But our work isn't over.

SHIELD and SGS have to work hand in hand to root out HYDRA influence and fight it on every front presented: from the battlefield to the laboratory. And I am going to be here with you. The Avengers are going to be here with you. As long as you're here with me.

    [AMERICA]
    Heya. I'm back in NYC.

You know all those conspiracy theories about incurable diseases actually having existing cure but the government is keeping it shut down because "MONEYS" because, you know.. it's probably true that treating people with a disease brings in more money than curing it completely. And yet. I think, what about the diseases that have vaccines and are eradicated? Its not like we've stopped making those vaccines completely... and how would you even be able to keep something as big as cures for diseases all wrapped up in a Top Secret file?

You probably don't. But hooray for science breakthroughs, there might just now a cure for AIDS! I still half-expect conspiracy theorists to go "PFFT, they had it all along".

Anyway. Hi. I'm Gwen Stacy, I go to NYU and I'm the chief intern at OsCorp. And I love science.
