Warnings: TW for harrassment/assault
Gwen had had zero notion of the time as she finished typing up the rest of her research paper at her desk in OsCorp. It wasn’t like her to procrastinate on an assignment but home life just seemed to be even more stressful than usual considering her father had been out more than usual. Some vigilante-chasing or something. It was never easy when they knew he was on patrol, what with him being the police captain, and that, plus a slew of midterm assignments and she was almost being worn thin. It was pretty late (but still not past midnight), when she finished, having been so inspired that she just had to keep typing away on her laptop until she got through the entire thing. She still had some time left in the day so it was completely procrastinating. Not enough time in the day that she could be out for too long, though. The city was vibrant and alive at this hour, especially on a Friday but it was getting colder and it had been dark for some time so not as vibrant and lively as people would think. Plus, this was lower Manhattan, not Times Square. The second she got out of OsCorp, Gwen didn’t hesitate on heading straight for the closest train station she could hop on, hoping that she’d be able to hop on one right away with no trouble at all. There was a missed call on her phone and she shot her mother a quick text instead of a call back to let her know she was on her way home. It was only a few feet away from the building when she heard the call. “Hey, what’s up, beautiful?” Ugh, seriously? Not that she was any stranger to that when she was out in the morning but this late at night? No thanks. She eye-rolled without turning around and picked up pace. “Where you going? Don’t you want to talk? Want me to carry your bag?” She heard the voice and footsteps coming closer, and that’s when her annoyance turned into panic. And she broke into a run. Damn that the subway entrance closest to her had to be in a slightly darker area, although at the same time, she thought he’d be able to lose him there… pretend to go down one direction but really just slide into one alleyway and hide behind a dumpster. That seemed to work in movies. Except Gwen’s didn’t nearly have enough time to spot a hiding space and actually hide before she felt her messenger bag get nearly yanked from her arm. Reacting before thinking, she swung around, a fist flying at the assailant’s face. It made contact with the side of his face but not as well as she would have thought. She had only managed to get a few feet away before he grabbed again, shoving her up against the wall. And this time, Gwen let out a cry for help. A part of her knew she probably should have just let him take her bag. Her father would have told her that’s the best move because assignments can be made up. Laptops can be bought again but she only had one life. But her grip on her bag remained, even though it seemed that the guy was now willing to hurt her than take her bag. |
