Week Eight: Friday
When: Night
Where: House Aquatic; Taylor’s Room
Who: Taylor and Rafe
A phone call to her sister that just rang and rang. A call to her father that sounded nearly like that dull ringing had. Full of monotonous repeated sounds that meant nothing really. The last call made was to her agent back in LA. She hadn’t spoken with him in weeks; she’d kept her focus on Halcyon and sort of made herself leave that past alone for a bit. But now the phone rang and soon enough his overly cheery voice resounded from the other end. The conversation was filled with excited chatter from his side of things, all sorts of plans could be made he said. Enough time had passed; it was prime time for her to get back into the game. She should have made her just as excited. It should have lifted her spirits. But it didn’t really, not that she let him know that at all. She was a good actress after all.
The call ended with a promise to call him again in a few days. He was eager to get the ball rolling and Tay just felt…she wasn't even sure right now.
All week long she’d been off and on again down at the beach. She hadn’t shown for most of her classes though she at least had contacted her teachers and told them why. It wasn’t really reason enough but adding in the whole water elemental needing the water thing sort of made them understand a little better. She’d probably get some hell for it later on but that was later and at the time Taylor really hadn’t cared about that later or getting one of those “talkings” to. All she wanted was to stay near to the water even if it wasn’t bringing her the most peace or comfort right now. The only times she left was to crash in a hotel for awhile. Shower, change, then back to the beach.
Tonight that wasn’t an option though. The full moon, Taylor had no desire to be out in the open tonight. Even if teachers were around not all the weres shifting were students at the school. So before sunset she made her way back, going straight to house aquatic and crashing for a few hours. Sleeping fitfully until she finally woke up and made those calls. The sun had set by the time they were finished. She could hear the scurry of werecreatures outside. Howls, growls. Taylor wasn’t spending the night in the commons room like so many students were. She didn’t feel much like a movie night or playing the perfect smile game.
Dragging herself out of bed Taylor retreated to the girls bathroom, taking a long hot shower in some hope to ease some of that tension so she could sleep a little better. It was a nice thought in theory but the entire time she just…stood there questioning things. Why Dylan had left, why her father was so distant, when everything had sort of…broken apart, and why hadn’t she seen it? She felt at fault almost, maybe if she had been around more or hadn’t traveled so much…
Eventually Taylor ended up back in her room, buried under her covers staring over at the empty side of the room where her twin used to be. It still felt…odd in the room. That missing feeling just refused to be shaken off. Taylor had always missed Dylan, every time they parted ways. But this time it just…cut deeper. Like it wasn’t just a see you later sort of parting. She knew laying there was just her way of avoiding everything. Staying at the beach, not checking the computers anymore. Avoidance. But avoidance wasn’t going to fix anything.
With a sigh Tay reached for her phone again, dialing Rafe’s number; listening to that familiar droning ring. Her words once he answered were brief. “Come over” She didn’t know how to talk to him about all of this but she knew she needed to. The phone was hung up and Taylor laid her head back down on the pillow, waiting for Rafe to show. At least tonight with so many teachers out watching the weres there was less chance of him getting caught.
