Week Eight: Wednesday
When: Mid Morning
Where: Zephyr House; Their Room
Who: Jasper and Micah
Today was the day. Most would likely be excited or eager to get their items together and going. Jasper however, was in a way terrified. He knew that he needed to do this and was intrigued by going somewhere else to learn but that didn’t take away the fear he held in being alone. This was the first time he’d really made the choice, his own choice, to be away from Micah. It was one of the biggest decisions he’d even made in his life. It might not seems momentous to others but it was for Jasper. Overwhelmingly so even. But that didn’t change that he was going to do it. That he’d picked a school. With the help of some teachers he’d filled out all the paperwork and everything was set. The woman he spoke with on the phone seemed so very excited he’d picked the school. He knew they were supposed to sound that way but it still had made him feel a little better.
Jasper hadn’t slept all night, he had tried of course but in the end he just laid there through the hours staring up at the familiar ceiling wondering what it was going to be like to not be here. To not have his brother sleeping across the room. To not wake up and see the teachers he’d come to know and respect. To not have some treat from Cassandra waiting at the door. To not go to his set tutoring sessions to help in topics that no human school would have. The more he thought about it the more he realized…he didn’t know what it would be like at all.
Everything always felt like a guessing game with Jasper when it came to situations that most others were incredibly familiar with . But a human school was new to Jasper. Thankfully he was told that a scout lived in that area and if he had any troubles that he could go see the man. Of course Jasper didn’t really trust others he didn’t know but a teacher he had come to hold some sort of trust for, not fully as Jasper really didn’t trust anyone fully except Micah and now Cassandra, had vouched for the man. A long time scout to the school that had helped many students. He was the one that Jasper was to speak with if he wanted to visit Halcyon or anything such as that. Already Jasper had committed the mans name and phone number to memory.
When morning came Jasper didn’t really move. He turned to watch the sunrise from his window but he kept silent. He didn’t want to wake Micah up way earlier then he normally would get up. Then all he’d have was a groggy zombie like Micah for hours and hours. Better to just let him sleep for another hour before finally waking him up. Around him he could hear the slight shuffle of movements from other students getting ready. Would the hours be the same at the new school? He didn’t even know what classes he’d be taking yet. He was to pick all of those out when he arrived and spoke with the advisor.
Only after most others were settled into class did Jasper finally get up and start moving around the room. From their little mini fridge he got a juice and put it next to Micah’s bed for when he woke up before getting a water for himself. Biting his lip he looked around the room, he wasn’t sure why the school had dropped off boxes for him. He really didn’t have anything to move with him. Jasper wasn’t the sort that needed much. Most of the books he had were the libraries and beyond that all he’d really concerned himself with was having enough clothes.
Instead of going for the boxes Jasper started to pull a few duffle bags out from under his bed. He thought these would work better.
