Week Thirteen: Thursday

Who: Kim and Xael
When: Thursday night
Where: House of Fire common room

All week, Kim had been feeling even more restless than she usually did before the full moon. If anything, she should have come back from break more relaxed but that wasn’t the case. The first week of break was fine. A little weird at times because she wasn’t used to having adult figures genuinely care about her. And also weird because she and Ray were staying at Manny’s parents house without Manny there. That changed the second week of break but Manny didn’t show up alone. Jax had come along and that was something Kim was not expecting at all. Kim would be lying if she said that the other girl’s presence didn’t bother her. When she agreed to go to Salem for break, part of her did it because she was hoping to spend more time with Manny. Yeah, that mini crush was still alive and well. But with Jax being there, that semi-plan was all shot to hell and the rest of her time there felt pretty awkward and tense.

It didn’t get any better when she got back to Halcyon either. Her first three classes of the day were fine, but once she got to Combat class, the aggressiveness went into overdrive. The first day she had gotten hurt cuz she didn’t know what to expect, but every other day after that, she was ready. Grappling was kinda helping with the restlessness, but it didn’t do enough especially since she was matched up with girls her own size so she wouldn’t get “hurt”. She hoped that after going through four different partners this week that her professor would get the hint and give her a tougher partner.

After Combat class, she’d try different things to get rid of all this excess energy like running or weight training or swimming. They all helped for a bit, but then the next day she was back to the same level of energy.

And now, the night before the full, Kim couldn’t fall asleep yet again. After tossing and turning for an hour, she gave up and sat up in bed. She didn’t wanna wake Natalia up by being on her laptop the whole night so instead she reached for her cell and texted Xael, wondering if he was still awake.

Lucky for her, he was. After a few quick texts between them, Xael suggested they meet down in the common room to keep each other some company. Kim pushed the covers off her body and put her slippers on before getting off the bed. Grabbing her cardigan off the back of her desk chair, she put it on over her pajamas and headed downstairs. She settled herself on a couch, looking around the empty room as she waited for Xael to show up.

Week Eight: Thursday - Narrative

The restlessness was definitely getting worse and the fact that Kim hadn’t been able to sleep too well for the past couple of nights just didn’t make it any better. By the time baseball club rolled around in the afternoon, she had just about had it. And then one of the annoying ass bitches in the club had to go and run her mouth about how sweaty she was getting just standing there and then proceeded to complain loudly to her friend about how her nail had just broken.. oh that was just the final fucking straw on the camel’s back for Kim.

She had been warming her arm up, just throwing back and forth with one of the guys when she completely lost it and launched the ball full speed at the bimbo’s face. Bullseye. Bimbo fell over holding her face. Kim tried her best to feign an apologetic look but failed miserably. Luckily, only a few of the guys realized that it had been her that threw the ball but they weren’t about to say anything. They all just had a big ass smirks on their faces.

Finally pegging one of the bimbos in the face did make her feel a little better but she just couldn’t shake off this mood that she had been in all week. She really needed to get some real rest before the full moon. She had even tried those relaxation tips that Dove had suggested but nothing worked. So then she decided to head to a pharmacy in the city to get some melatonin like she had also suggested but that crap didn’t work either. She’d fall asleep but wake up every once in a while during the night.

What the hell was wrong with her? She knew it wasn’t the regular restlessness that she usually went through before a full moon. No, this was definitely something else. She had been on edge since last week when she had a panic attack out of the blue. She definitely thought they were gone for good once she had left her parents’ house. Now, they were back.. or maybe not.. maybe it was just that one time. But why did it happen? And would it happen again? Kim certainly didn’t want that. So maybe it was time to finally tell someone about them even though she wasn’t too keen on having to talk about any of it. She just really needed to have a good night’s sleep again and maybe that was the only way.

Week Seven: Wednesday

Who: Manny and Kim
When: After classes
Where: House of Fire common room

Kim let out a huge sigh of relief as she walked out of her last class of the day. She just could not stand being cooped up in a stuffy classroom for another second. That had partially to do with the fact that she was still kind of on edge from the panic attack she had the night before. Luckily, she had the room to herself. Kim didn’t think it was a pretty sight at all and was glad that Natalia hadn’t been there to witness it.

It had come about with little warning like they usually do. One minute she was lying in bed, completely fine and the next her heart was racing, her hands were shaking, she broke out into a cold sweat and felt like she couldn’t breathe. Kim knew what was happening, she had dealt with it before, but it didn’t make it any less scary. She made her way to her window, carefully opened it and hung her head out as she closed her eyes, trying to control her breathing. The attack eventually passed and she made it back to her bed, but she just couldn’t sleep.

She made her way back to her room and sighed as she closed the door behind her. In the almost two months that she’d been at Halcyon, she hadn’t had a single attack. She thought she was finally rid of them. So what the hell brought on the one she had last night? She knew what brought them on before: her parents. But she was long gone from them and figured they would stop now.

Guess not.

Kim threw her bookbag down on her bed and looked around the room. There was no way she was gonna stay in there right now, not after the restless night she had spent there the night before. She picked up the latest issue of Cosmo from her desk, threw on her favorite zip-up hoodie, and made her way down to the common room. It was completely empty.. well, except for the one guy that had just walked through and was now out of the room.. ok, so now it was empty. She plopped herself onto the couch in front of a huge window and began reading her magazine. As interesting as Cosmo was, she found herself getting incredibly tired and eventually fell asleep with the magazine half covering her face and her right arm hanging off the side of the couch.

Week Seven: Monday

Who: Natalia and Kim
When: Monday afternoon
Where: House of Fire, Natalia's room
What: Kim's moving in

Kim had been at Halcyon for over a month now but she hadn’t gotten around to completely unpacking all her stuff. It was a bad habit she had. She never completely unpacked all her stuff when she was living with the Walshes or even when she moved into the studio apartment she shared with her best friend Lauren for a semester. Maybe it was out of laziness or maybe it was because she knew she wouldn’t be staying in one place for long.. Who knows. Right now, she’d just blame it on laziness.

In this case, it was a good thing she hadn’t unpacked everything because it made moving into her new room a lot easier. Kim first met Natalia during one of their Inner Beast Control classes but it wasn’t until she invited her to go shopping that they got to know each other better. Natalia was really spunky and easy to get along with so when she suggested that they room together, Kim agreed.

All the stuff in Kim’s old room was packed back up, ready to be moved over to Natalia’s. She figured since Natalia had been there a little longer than she had, it would be easier to just move into her room. Besides, the whole half unpacked thing helped too. Luckily, her new room was only two doors down from her old one so she wouldn’t have to move her stuff too far. Grabbing her large rolling suitcase and a duffel bag from her bed, she made her way out into the hallway and to her new room. She stopped in front of it and knocked on the door, hoping Natalia was home because she didn’t have a key to the room yet.

Week Four: Friday - Narrative

Kim yawned loudly as she pulled her head out from under her covers. She pushed her hair away from her eyes as she looked over at her alarm clock on her nightstand. 12:43pm. Nice. She stretched her arms way over her head and plopped them back down on her bed. Her back and quads were a little sore but that was normal for her after a full moon. That was one of the advantages of having been born a were: the change wasn’t as bad after having done it for 19 years now. When she first started going through full moons, she would have to spend nearly the whole day after in bed. Now, it was as if nothing had happened the night before.

But still, she had read in a school bulletin that weres could be excused from today’s classes as well. How very tempting. As much as she liked archery, she just wasn’t in the mood for it right now. Besides, her dexterity just wasn’t that great immediately after a full moon for some reason so really there was no point in going and sucking during that class. As for Inner Beast Control.. that class she could do without altogether. Although, she did wonder what the teacher would say about the previous night’s full moon. Eh, probably just something that she had already heard somewhere else before. If it was anything relevant she was sure she could just find out about it from Rufus or someone else.

It felt good to roam around last night without any worries of possibly harming someone. That was something she hated when she was living at the Walshes. Yeah, she had a real family then but she would have to go off alone every full moon, somewhere deep in the woods of the town next door to theirs. It wasn’t exactly the greatest life, but it was a hell of a lot better than being locked up in that damn house that she grew up in. She shuddered just thinking about how towards the end of her time there, her parents resorted to locking her up in the cage they used to lock Ray in. Kim had gotten a little too rebellious for their liking and so they felt that was the best thing to do. They said she gave them no choice. Bullshit. They were such control freaks. But thank heavens she didn’t have to deal with them ever again. Here she was free to walk around with her own kind and finally be alongside her brother again.

She sat up and reached over to her nightstand, grabbing her iPod and putting her headphones on. Today needed to be a relaxing day. She didn’t want to have to worry about school. She began shuffling through her playlists and finally chose one named Chill. Flipping the covers off her body, she adjusted her camisole and shorts as she got up. She walked over to her window and cracked it open a bit before returning to bed. Life was pretty good right now. Now if only she could get someone to bring her some food up, she’d be set. Heh.
