Doing As You're Told

Who: Corey and John
Where: The front of the hotel
When: Late afternoon

There were too many signs. Corey couldn't ignore it even if he wanted to-- which he still kind of did. Even as he walked towards the hotel, with his over-loaded backpack, duffle-bag, shot-guns, and electrician's toolbox, he was seeing them. The angle of the sunlight pointing shadows towards the hotel, at this time of day. The lack of monsters in the streets or even in the houses he passed. The outflung arm of a skeleton, long since picked clean, hanging out of a car window. It annoyed him, but he couldn't ignore it, and he couldn't deny it.

So here he was, crossing that parking lot again, scowling darkly at the direction fate had dragged him, Blitz seeming just as unhappy as he was as she trailed along behind him. If this turned out to be wrong, or if things changed, his house was intact, boarded up and locked down and waiting for him, along with the rest of his supplies and belongings that he hadn't packed into the bags he brought with him.

Now he just needed someone to let him in. Standing in front of the closed door, he scowled further, and set down his duffel bag and toolbox to come and knock. Blitz disdained to follow quite that far, and sat down behind him a ways, two tails twitching and a couple of her tentacles clinging to his belongings.

This is where we're supposed to be. )

Hello, Neighbor

Who: John & Rowan
Where: The hallway and then the kitchen
When: Early morning, September 4th Day 14

He'd stayed in his room on Day 13 of the end of everything he'd known. Drake had managed to get him to this place, with two people who seemed friendly enough, and the man who'd met them, though a little pale and tired, had been a wonderful sight. Normal people. A hotel. Lots of rooms to explore. He was sorry there wasn't any power. John had always liked riding in the elevators and sneaking into rooms marked 'staff only'. 'Always' was a relative concept. Since his recovery from the accident, he'd reverted to a few activities he'd enjoyed when he was eight. Going where he wasn't supposed to go was one of them. He'd done that during his first week at the facility and Christina, his 'lifestyle coordinator' had been very upset with him. He and Mr. Squiggles had curled into a ball in his room and cried and refused to have dinner as a form of self-punishment.

Until dessert had been revealed: chocolate ice cream. John couldn't remember the last time he'd had ice cream.

He'd chosen a room on the twelfth floor, because he wanted to view and no one thumping above him. Drake had also wanted it for the view, but he was thinking strategies and stuff and that just made John bored. He hadn't unpacked his bag, afraid that at any moment, this safe zone would become a war zone and he'd have to flee. Well, Drake would get them out. He said he knew how to climb the outside walls. A part of John was terrified, but the other part was equally excited. he could be like Spiderman... Leaving Mr. Squiggles in charge on a pillow on the bed, John opened the door to the hall, thinking that with the sun up now, he should explore a little. He'd eaten one of his energy bars, but more food would be good, too.

You got a weird way of freaking out, yo. )

Arrival

Who: Tayne, Richard, John, and Carson
Where: Outside the hotel
When: Late afternoon, 4ish

Even when sick, Tayne couldn't stay still all day. He wasn't going to risk going outside much, not feeling this awful, but he could move around inside the hotel. With a handkerchief tied around his mouth, so he wasn't spreading germs. There were things to do inside that made him feel a little useful, like he wasn't completely wasting his time: finding places where sunlight fell during the day that they could put indoor plants; trying to get an idea for security positions people could take based on empty rooms and hall windows; verifying how full each hall was, based on the strong scents in bedrooms, to designate storage rooms or rooms they could fuss with to facilitate heating and the like.

But even just walking and taking notes in one of his notepads was pretty tiring, when you were feverish and still felt a little nauseous. So by the time he was done, at about four, he was ready to call it a night.

Ready to check on the eggs and call it a night. He had almost forgotten about those. Before too long, he needed to get those inside, but for now, he just needed to turn them and check the heat in the truck.

You folks wanna come out where I can see ya? )

Expect the Unexpected

Who: Carson, John & Richard
Where: A random apartment, then Richard's Apartment
When: Morning of Day 11 of the End of the World (back-dated)

He didn't even register that the intruders were talking - right now language was as foreign to his ears as any of the noises the monsters made outside his window. )
