Entertainment

Who: Liah and Rowan
Where: their suite
When: night

The bedroom where Liah slept most of the time looked relatively cozy tonight. She'd gone through and put some of her things up, as opposed to strewed around all over the dresser and in the corners, and there were candles lit on the dresser and one of the night-tables. For illumination, of course, since they didn't have anything else except flashlights. She'd brushed her teeth and changed into what she was wearing to bed-- a camisole top and a silky pair of what looked to be previously unworn men's boxers that she'd found in a box in the storage room-- and she was currently sitting on the side of the bed fretting over her leg, the one she'd scraped up when she'd laid down Verity's cycle earlier today. She thought it looked horrible, even after she'd cleaned it up, and she was mentally debating putting some kind of lotion or cream on it. Would it sting? Was there anything that would make it heal faster?

Let's Try This Again

Who: Rowan and Terry
Where: Wherever Terry might be!
When: Late afternoon

After checking in with Liah and the kids, getting his back rebandaged-- Liah was not very happy with him, though the hug he'd gotten from her had almost made up for the semi-panicked lecturing-- Rowan bounded back down the stairs on leftover adrenaline and the thrill of maybe-- maybe-- having a clue about the rest of their whereabouts. At least he could say his excursion had born a little fruit, even if they hadn't been able to find them, directly.

He wandered the fourth floor briefly, trying to remember the room number, but then gave up and headed down to the first floor, looking for Terry. He'd pretty much forgotten their not-quite-shouting-match from the night before, much more interested in what had happened since.

An improvement. Nobody shouted. )

Right Out of a Comic Book

Who: Jasper and Juniper (NPCs) and Corey
Where: The streets, then Corey's house, then the hotel
When: Morning

Jasper had already half filled his pockets with odds and ends. Verity wasn't that hard to figure out, in theory. He went where he could find things to tinker with. Sure, he was looking for those people who'd gone missing, but Jasper couldn't think of any particular reason following what looked like interesting bits of metal wouldn't work. What else would those people be looking for? Food, maybe, but the world had plenty of grocery stores near hardware stores, and then you could do two errands at once. He shoved a bit of broken bicycle chain into his sweatshirt pocket and straightened, head up. He might miss a sign of Verity. Or he might miss a monster. In preparation for that, he had a railroad spike and a snapped off bit of railing shoved into his belt. He glanced back at Juniper just for a moment before he turned his attention back on finding Verity. And damn, was he in trouble.

For her part, Juniper was only here because she followed Jasper. She didn't have any idea where they were going, or why they were going this way, or what was in Jasper's head at all, really. She just knew she hadn't wanted to be left alone in two big, empty suites with Rowan and Liah gone, and then Jasper leaving. He walked faster than she did, and she'd wound up having to scramble over and around things just to keep up. Really, she was starting to get a bit frustrated with it all, and more than a little cranky, and they'd really only been outside about an hour. Even the comparative joy of being outside, for once, had palled under their lack of water or snacks or even a few moments to rest.

Then there were the monsters. She really didn't think much about them, being a naturally brave sort of child, but when she actually saw one slinking down the sidewalk towards them, she froze in terror, perched on top of a car and completely exposed.

Of the anti-hero type. )

Rooftop hopping

Who: Juan and Rowan
Where: Out and about the city
When: Late afternoon

Juan had decided that it would be fastest if he went out alone. His ability to teleport got him through many apartments from when he began in early afternoon, but yielded him very little in the way of supplies. The most of what he found were new vividly decaying mostly eaten corpses... a sight he was becoming all too comfortable with. In the last apartment he found a few cans of baked beans and one of corned beef, which he wasn't certain if it was still good, but he still was on the look out for more canned goods. One find made the trip almost worth it in and of itself. It was a backpack filled with camping equipment. It had a medium-sized machete, a small set of binoculars, a few army rations, and the most impressive of all an emergency radio. The addition of this device to their supplies would probably help a great deal. Juan hadn't tried to use the radio just yet, since he was still out and about, but he definitely wanted to share this find with at least Joyce if not Terry. He teleported out and up to the roof of the next building and pulled out said binoculars and began to scope out the next complex.

The next complex had a pair of drooping, blue-gray wings )

Bourbon and Violin Music

Who: Josh and Juan
Where: the bar/lounge area
When: midday

The middle of the day had arrived, and Josh still felt like miserable crap. He'd taken three frigidly cold showers to try to bring down his temperature, he'd drank a ton of cold water, and he still felt like he was probably running about a hundred and three degrees. He knew why he was sick-- because of what he'd done in the basement the previous day, which had been a very good thing for everyone-- but that didn't make the consequences any easier to bear. He'd finally decided that lying around on his floor next to the window wasn't going to make him feel any better, either, so he got up and dragged himself down the stairs to the lounge.

It was deeply shadowed but still possible to see with the light that came into the windows, and Josh went behind the bar to see what he could find. He'd never been much of a drinker, hadn't ever been able to afford to be a drinker, but if he had to be wretchedly sick, maybe he could find something that would knock him unconscious. It was worth a try. Pale, hollow-eyed and sweating heavily, he leaned against the back part of the bar as he checked out the various bottles on the mirrored shelf behind it.

he hoped he wasn't evil like Pyro, but control over fire was pretty cool anyway )

Escape Attempt

Who: Tayne, Erin, Keith, Verity and Jasmine
Where: North of the hotel; Oakwood Mall
When: Early morning

After the group of hostages were searched and rendered weaponless, they were escorted to a bedding store in the back of the mall on the top floor. There was never a moment where they were alone, or where they felt their powers returned to them. The group seemed almost too confident, too sure of themselves. There was another figure that stayed nearby, but out of sight enough that his face was never fully visible. As soon as the metal gates were pulled into place and locked, the group left, no second thoughts given to their hostages. For now, they had other business to tend to, and the hostages were last on their list of priorities.

Plans foiled. )

Monster Surge

Who: Rowan and Liah
Where: The mall, then escaping from the mall!
When: Early afternoon

It'd taken a while to get to the mall, what with stopping at every not-ransacked-looking house to see what they could find, and load up the backpacks slung onto the motorcycle with whatever useful shit they could find. They only had one brief scare with a monster en route, lunging out of a house they had been about to enter, but Rowan killed it with a well-placed shot between the eyes. His aim was improving, he thought, or maybe just his eyesight. Did that come with the territory of turning into half a bird? He couldn't even guess, but as long as it helped him get by, he didn't care, either.

The mall finally came in sight, and none too soon. Rowan was getting tired of the piecemeal flights. On their way back, they could just go straight, without bothering to stop anywhere. All the taking off and landing was straining his back-- he was pretty sure he hadn't broken anything open again, but it hurt like hell anyway-- and on the way back he could just glide when possible, and fly straight the rest of the time.

Once Liah could see the mall, too, he swooped down and glided only a few yards over her head, so he could land once she got there, herself.

Incoming! )

Too early for philosphy

Who: Andre & Josh
Where: Josh's room
When: Morning

Andre was still tired, even after getting a full night's rest. The search and rescue operation the day before had really taken a lot out of him. Not just the stairs, spiders, and fire, but especially turning a second person invisible with him. Considering how easily he could turn himself invisible, or anything he happened to be holding or wearing, it was kind of a shock just how worn out he still was from it all. He could still turn himself invisible- he'd tried it when he woke up and looked in the mirror- but it seemed like it took a little more effort to do this morning. He hoped that all he needed was to recharge a little and it would all be all right.

He was more concerned about the other members of the rescue party, though. Terry had seemed to come through all right, and he knew Landon and Catie were in the best hands possible, considering that their doctor had left them high and dry. But he wondered how the kid was holding up. Josh had done a bang-up job keeping all the spider-things occupied while he and Terry rescued the others, but he hadn't looked that good before it, and he could imagine that all that fire had taken a lot of out of him as well. After taking a cold shower, shaving, and a little prayer for everyone, he decided to go have a look-see, make sure the boy was doing okay. He climbed the stairs, silently cursing them as he did, before stopping at the boy's door. He knocked semi-quietly, hoping the boy wasn't still asleep. "Hey, kid," he said, trying not to be too loud, which was difficult with his booming voice. "It's me, Andre."

I wouldn't have minded havin' a human flamethrower like you back when I was in Iraq. )
