PATRONUS STUDY SESSION

PATRONUS STUDY SESSION

Ms. Lilywhite has been teaching a section on casting Patronuses. Every year, she allows non-DADA students to attend extra study sessions she holds after dinner, because she believes a well-formed Patronus is an important life skill. It’s… not, probably, but who’s going to argue with her?

HOW THIS WORKS

If your character attends these sessions or takes DADA, they will at least learn what their patronus will be and will get a partial formation. The mods will roll to see if your character can cast a successful full-bodied patronus.

Occlumency students are presumed to already be well-versed with this spell, as it requires emotional control and self-awareness, which are invaluable skills in Occlumency, especially if you plan on becoming an Auror. Unless you choose otherwise, all Occlumency students automatically succeed, or can already cast the charm.

Occlumency students: Automatic success.
Seniors in DADA: 75% success.
Seniors not in DADA: 50% success.
Juniors in DADA: 65% success.
Juniors not in DADA: 40% success.
Sophomores in DADA: 55% success.
Sophomores not in DADA: 30% success.

Fill out this form if your character takes Occlumency or attends the extra study sessions:
Name:
Year: Sophomore/Junior/Senior
Patronus Form: It can change from the last time we asked you, but this will be your official “canon” answer.
Why?: What does this animal mean, or why is it significant to them?
Their happy memory: What memory finally worked for them?
Their attempt: Any other notes on how it went for them?
Are they in DADA or Occlumency?: This contributes to the likelihood of their success.

Rafael Ramirez
[info]firstposition
2016-12-01 10:05 am UTC (link)
Name: Rafael Ramirez
Year: Senior
Patronus Form: Mojave Rattlesnake
Why?: Rattlesnake symbolism (versus general snake symbolism) is almost negative across the board, but not inappropriate for Rafael at his worst: Vengeance, aggression, defensiveness, etc. Rattlesnakes hold ground rather than retreat, and they give a clear warning before striking. Mojave rattlesnakes are the most venomous rattlesnakes in the world, and have a reputation for being especially aggressive even for a rattlesnake (... although they're actually not). They also do those cool snake poses which look kind of like a graceful dancer~
Their happy memory: A montage of the sensation and thrill of dancing usually works like a charm. If he's been in a bad mood or is stressed out, he lets these memories get tainted by thoughts of his injury. Luckily, he's been doing fine this week.
Their attempt: Rafael's been able to cast a patronus for a while now. As long as he hasn't lost his temper, his success rate is good. Things have been alright for him, even with the recent school-wide debacle, so he's able to show off his skills.
Are they in DADA or Occlumency?: Yes and yes.

Leo Fiori
[info]challenge
2016-12-01 10:13 am UTC (link)
Name: Leo Fiori
Year: Senior
Patronus Form: Snapping Turtle
Why?: I promise this is not a troll answer completely. Turtles are a good symbol of a quiet determination and limitless persistence. Leo is both those things. He's very patient, but it's all about lying in wait. Like snapping turtles do. Also, they're quite dangerous and can snap off your finger if you get too much in their way. That fits Leo way too well.
Their happy memory: Telling his dad he got a scholarship to Gooseberry and was going to be an Auror. There was a hug involved, his dad cried. It was pretty cute. That one doesn't always work if he's stressed, but he isn't right now, particularly.
Their attempt: He'd work at this for several attempts if he didn't get it the first time. I feel like he definitely have worked on this in the past and absolutely goes to these workshops whenever they're offered. If he fails, it's because he's linking emotion to magic, which he may not need be best at.
Are they in DADA or Occlumency?: He is in DADA! He has tried learning Occlumency independently just to be in par with Auror people too but isn't in the class so results vary.

Chris Park
[info]doyouevenlift
2016-12-01 10:35 am UTC (link)
Name: Chris Park
Year: Senior
Patronus Form: A super nonimposing deer
Why?: Deer symbolizes compassion, regeneration and sensitivity but deer are also the prime prey, with few actual defenses beyond speed and agility. Deer tend to foresee danger and retreat at the first sight of it.
Their happy memory: It's a montage because it encompasses misty a feeling more than a concrete emotion. It encompasses working hard and succeeding but also his friends (and hockey). Most prominent in the montage are Quinn, Ryan and Levi.
Their attempt: Chris already knows how to cast a patronus. He's fairly decent at clearing his mind and focusing, despite recent emotional issues. But last time, his patronus was an owl. And now it's like a baby deer so he's not exactly sure how to feel about that.
Are they in DADA or Occlumency?: Yeah he's in both.

Robin Youngblood
[info]hanshotfirst
2016-12-01 10:59 am UTC (link)
Name: Robin Youngblood
Year: Senior
Patronus Form: Platypus
Why?: The OOC answer is that Robin thinks platypuses are not real animals and were created in a zoo lab by scientists (probably paid by the Illuminati or something, idk, this is an increasingly complicated conspiracy).
The IC answer is that platypuses are symbolic of paradoxes, which Robin is…not afraid of, he’ll say something that directly contradicts something he said earlier, ANYTHING COULD BE WRONG. HE COULD HAVE BEEN LYING. We just don’t know. They also don’t really fit into ~mainstream society~ and they’re ~totally cool with that~ and Robin is a weird hillbilly hipster and ~actually totally cool with not fitting in with all you mainstream sheeple~. And they look super goofy and like you wouldn’t be afraid of them, but never forget that they’re from Australia and can therefore murder you so the male platypuses have venomous ankle spurs. Which is great because, like Robin, you might not take it seriously until you are in an unexpected amount of pain.
Also since he’s in Occlumency, then all of his Occlumency friends totally know his patronus is a platypus, and they STILL have to listen to him bitch about zoo scientists trying to play god.
Their happy memory: The first time he killed a bear with his bare hands That didn’t happen, Robin. But it is actually the first time he killed a deer on his own, and his dad said he could probably just about make it if they forgot him out in these here woods. He was seven. It was awesome.
Their attempt: Robin has been able to cast a patronus for a while. He probably failed the test on the theory and then cast a full-bodied patronus and was like, “k well that’s all that matters right.” He’s impatient and gets frustrated if his more recent attempts aren’t as strong as earlier attempts, but Robin’s saving grace is his sense of humor. If he can laugh at himself, then he can clear his mind and get this shit done right.
Are they in DADA or Occlumency?: Both.

Cameron Carney
[info]gonnabefamous
2016-12-01 11:06 am UTC (link)
Name: Cameron Carney
Year:Junior
Patronus Form: Cameron totally expects his patronus to be a peacock, or something else equally flamboyant, but it’s actually a pot bellied pig.
Why?: Pigs can symbolise sloth, over-indulgence, and a slovenly nature. However, pigs are sociable, charming creatures with a large sense of humor. They’re very intelligent, but they’re not generally known for that trait. Because they are sociable, curious, intelligent creatures, they become bored easily without stimulation, and can become obnoxious if not out right destructive.

Pigs are prey animals and foraging omnivores, and unlike boars, are generally known as peaceful rather than aggressive or confrontational.

Pigs are herd animals that need a lot of attention, and easily become lonely. Happy or sad, they are very vocal. Pet potbellied pigs can become easily spoiled, and even if they’re not “top hog”, they can learn sneaky (and not so subtle) ways to get what they want if that behaviour isn’t discouraged.
Their happy memory: Going onstage with his mama last year while she accepted her Magical Country Music Award.
Their attempt: Cameron totally acts like he’s goofing off and not trying, but he’s secretly concentrating and trying to actually accomplish it. He’ll be surprised if he manages it.
Are they in DADA or Occlumency?: Nope and nope.

Sybilla Borgin
[info]sibyls
2016-12-01 11:38 am UTC (link)
Name: Sybilla Borgin
Year: Junior
Patronus Form: Raven
Why?: Birds known for their wisdom as well as for being messengers between the worlds of the living and the dead, able to navigate the duality of light and darkness. They often represent omens of death in battle, and are scavenger birds, picking from those slain in war (symbolism of dead relatives from the wizarding wars, perhaps, Sylla?). In many cultures they represent creation, of bringing life from death and darkness. But on a less mythological level, ravens are extremely clever birds, are adaptable and intelligent, very linked to their family groups, highly territorial, and are known to form lifelong monogamous relationships.
(If you feel like some tl;dr on raven mythology as linked to their actual characteristics and traits, I.E. ravens have zero chill and are perfect for Sylla's patronus form.)
Also note - she is still convinced this will be her animagus form, but it most certainly is not. In any way, shape, or form. But she'll find that bad news out eventually.
Their happy memory: The first time her father let her into his workshop at home and assist him with a project for Borgin & Burke's. She was 10, so she wasn't able to cast any spells, but she did help with some translations and arcane spell theory, and hearing her father say he is so proud of her and seeing his wide grin is the happiest memory she has ever felt.
Their attempt: Probably decent? She's a strong, intuitive spell caster, able to focus on the task at hand since it means a lot to her, but we'll see with rolls.
Are they in DADA or Occlumency?: DADA

Ravi Dhaliwal
[info]paladins
2016-12-01 11:56 am UTC (link)
Name: Ravinder Dhaliwal
Year: Senior
Patronus Form: Emperor Penguin
Why?: WOW MEGGIE I HATE THIS QUESTION. Penguins are dapper-looking animals. I read a description about how a penguin personality has lots of different contradictory sides (black and white at the same time?), and I like the flightless bird metaphor for how repressed Ravi is. Oh, and: "[...] unlike typical bird personalities they avoid the spotlight unless they're able to hide behind the characters they play. Once on stage however, they prove to be excellent performers [...] conveying the full gamut of emotions." lol larp
Their happy memory: Ravi tried a few: the first time he stayed up late watching movies with his sister, arriving at Ilvermorny and seeing magic in action, taking flight on one of Gooseberry's winged horses. The one that worked was the memory of a really intense LARP session last year which ran late into dinner because everyone was so into it and taking it seriously.
Their attempt: Ravi takes DADA for his future Healer training, and he's a straight-A student, but this and magical duelling things aren't really on his list of subjects he's passionate about, so he might struggle to get this going. On the other hand, Ravi has pretty good emotional control?

Diego Morales
[info]morale
2016-12-01 11:57 am UTC (link)
Name: Diego Moraes
Year: Senior
Patronus Form: Scarlet Macaw
Why?: Macaws symbolize communication, language, pair bonding, creative intelligence, beauty, art, verbosity, happiness, diplomacy and compromise. One website of questionable repute says a macaw potentially "signifies someone who is a people “pleaser”. A person who accepts everything they are told to do or believe without real scrutiny."

Scarlet macaws are large, social South American parrots that mate for life. Although attractive and fun, they're very vocal and potentially obnoxious. In captivity, parrots are high maintenance pets, and they can become anxious and self-destructive if neglected or mistreated. They're considered sociable and affectionate companion animals, though, and form intense bonds.
Their happy memory: Going on a hike with his step-mother, talking to her openly about some of his fears. It was the first time he ever thought of her as his mom and not just his other mom's new wife.
Their attempt: Diego will attempt to go through a lot of other memories, many involving Cecil and Levi or what he can recall his life was like before his parents got divorced. None of that gets him anywhere. I mean, he still might not get anywhere. He's not doing so hot this week month year, and he's at the mercy of his old friend, RNG.
Are they in DADA or Occlumency?: Neither.

2016-12-01 12:21 pm UTC (link)
Name: Wilhelmina Tran
Year: Senior
Patronus Form: Ermine. Or just a regular stoat/long-tailed weasel, but Mina's Animagus form is going to be the winter form.
Why?: ngl I picked ermine because it was really small and cute but had nasty teeth. Also I like the irony of weasels being seen as charming and duplicitous, but Mina's just a blunt hammer with zero finesse.
Their happy memory: The last time she, Essie and their parents went out on a family outing (to an amusement park, maybe?) and had a wonderful day together. In hindsight, this being her happiest memory brings Mina some guilt since she knows now that her mother and father's marriage was miserable. idk does this disqualify it as a happy memory. Mina's so bad at this tbh.
Their attempt: LOL GOOD LUCK SEEING MISERABLE MINA CAST A WELL-FORMED PATRONUS. She takes DADA but it's her worst class, she struggled soooo hard to get the B- she had last year and Lilywhite suggested she drop out, so do your worst to her.

Quinn Cunningham
[info]qnnc
2016-12-01 12:27 pm UTC (link)
Name: Quinn Cunningham
Year: Senior
Patronus Form: Coyote
Why?: The coyote is a trickster and a clown who doesn't hesitate to point out the humour (or folly) in a situation. When he imparts wisdom (more through his actions than his words) it can be obscured by the playful delivery. He's adaptable, resourceful in his surroundings, and devoted to family. There's a danger for the coyote to gravitate too close to his darker side, which with Quinn relates to her tendency to envelope herself in pressure and then lash out at those around her.
Their happy memory: The first time she was able to skate on Lake Gooseberry.

For the first couple of years she was trying to cast the Patronus with her memory of getting into Gooseberry because of how beneficial the school was going to be for her career as a Healer — it just made sense. Before Gooseberry, however, Quinn spent years playing competitive minor league hockey; her move to Utah meant giving up all aspirations of playing professionally (and she was promising player), as well as uprooting herself from both her teammates and her family back in Hamilton. She realized last year that getting into Gooseberry was a good memory, but one too bittersweet to help her cast the Patronus.

The first time Quinn skated on the Lake was in the beginning of Freshman year when she was still feeling lonely and vulnerable from her big move. It was the first time she felt like herself since beginning at the school and it helped her realize that she wasn't so much quitting her old life as she was building it into something different. No bitter, just sweet — and reassuring.
Their attempt: Good. Determined. With non-DADA students around she might even be a little competitive; she insists she's "motivated."
Are they in DADA or Occlumency?: Only DADA.

The memory pertains to mod-approved modifications to Quinn's history I've been meaning to make but are not yet reflected in her profile, FYI. I tried to turn the coyote stuff away from Appropriationsvillle but it was really hard not to write the coyote as Coyote the figure and the pronouns and ahhhh. I tried to write about just coyotes in general, I gave up, I'm sorry. :(

Also hi I always write way too much how are you today

Patronus Form: Lion
Why?: Big, loud, confident, bossy. Not as tough as his looks or reputation might suggest. I enjoy the irony of lions being seen as "noble" animals whereas Sy is a selfish douchebag, but I'm also a sap and like the hint that Sy has the capacity to be brave and loyal and a good leader. Somewhere, buried deep. Very deep.
Their happy memory: Coppertale winning the Quidditch cup last year. :(
Their attempt: Sy's very good at DADA, it's one of his best classes. Emotional control and self-awareness are... a different matter. Sy's more self-aware than he acts, but he's still got that terrible temper. CAN HE DO IT, WHO KNOWS

Chloe Shepherd
[info]cmdrchloe
2016-12-01 01:05 pm UTC (link)
Name: Chloe Shepherd
Year: Junior
Patronus Form: Hedgehog
Why?: Hedgehogs are unique, and though they may seem meek, they are are friendly, curious creatures. They are gentle yet protective of themselves, and nocturnal, but can still be kept as pets.

Folk legends often associate Hedgehogs with intelligence, creativity, and inventiveness. Romans claimed to witness the creature knocking off grapes from vines and rolling on them, spearing the grapes on their backs and carrying them away to dine on at a later date. In the Brothers Grimm story “The Hare and the Hedgehog”, a hedgehog and his wife outsmart a cocky hare who wants to race.

When threatened, hedgehogs curl themselves into a ball. Unlike porcupines, hedgehogs are not aggressive about using their quills, which are permanently attached to their bodies and are not barbed, and can even be pet if they aren’t frightened. Though not confrontational, and preferring to flee from a fight before it begins, this defense mechanism protects them in a big, cruel world. Hedgehogs are known to be resistant to snake venom. This isn’t true; hedgehogs may be harder to bite, but if a snake gets past their quills, a hedgehog is just as vulnerable as any other creature. Hedgehogs’ quills symbolize putting space - intentional or not - between one’s self and others.
Their happy memory: Chloe tries a number of family related memories, because it seems to work for a lot of other people? It doesn’t, though. The memory that works is one of getting to see a unicorn in her first year Care of Magical Creatures class. It was the moment when magic suddenly seemed really, tangibly real. Everything she had previously thought was fiction could be real, and the world was full of possibilities.
Their attempt: Chloe’s whole attempt was nervous and uncertain, and she was increasingly stressed and self-doubting the longer she goes without managing. Maybe nothing that happy has ever happened in her life? Maybe she is defective?? This spiral will undoubtedly continue if someone doesn’t intervene to encourage her (and also point out that stress is pretty counterproductive to this activity).

Calvin Evercreech
[info]evercreep
2016-12-01 01:12 pm UTC (link)
Name: Calvin Evercreech
Year: Sophomore
Patronus Form: Green Moray Eel
Why?: IT'S A SNAKE AND A FISH. Okay, but really: shape shifting, adaptability, wisdom, inspiration, watching unseen, ability to overcome great obstacles, change, travel, and endurance. Morays have a reputation for being cruel and ill-tempered, but in reality they're reclusive and shy, and would rather flee than fight. They only attack humans out of self-defense. They're pretty harmless to humans and can actually be pretty friendly with divers. However, they're still formidable predators with a powerful bite.

Cute detail: there are accounts of fish getting solitary moray eels to help them with hunting by flushing prey out of crevices the fish can't get into.
Their happy memory: Seeing Ree on the bus back to Gooseberry at the beginning of this year.
Their attempt: Coming up with a happy enough memory is a real struggle for Calvin. Aside from generally being a negative person, his childhood is kind of defined by contention, and being always ready to defend himself. Between all his brothers, all his friends in Slytherin, and some of what happens at Gooseberry, most of his "happy" memories are when he got one over on someone, avoided punishment, dodged getting into a fight, felt smarter than someone else, etc. He really has to sit and think hard to come up with something.

OK NOW BACK TO THIS MEME

Name: Rosemary Stoker
Year: Junior
Patronus Form: Lioness
Why?: Because Sy’s is a lion.
OK FINE. Also because lions are symbols of strength, assertiveness, and leadership, and also the single website I used to do this research said “[s]eeing your lion spirit animal could be an invitation to control your temper or your moderate aggressive impulses.” YEAH ROSEMARY. YEAH. And lionesses are the ones who do all the damn work.
Plus Rosy is probably a Gryffindor, so there’s that too.
Their happy memory: THIS IS THE HARDEST PART FOR ROSY. She likes to look back on her fondest memories and ruin them with cynicism. She tries to think of things like winning a science fair when she was nine, the first Stoker Twin Championship Belt Throwdown, going to Gooseberry, getting her prefect badge, but none of those are good enough. She finally connects with playing kicking ass at fucking Quidpong with Sy at the Grotto party. Because winning or losing didn’t really mean anything outside of drunken bragging rights, and idk she likes working together with Sy. They’re the juggernaut, bitch.
Their attempt: Rosy doesn’t like to acknowledge emotions, but that’s just to other people. She’s pretty self-aware, knows what she needs to keep on lock, and she’s good at DADA, so hopefully she’s not a TOTAL FAILURE.

Patronus Form: Red Wolf
Why?: Wolves are social creatures, intensely bonded to their pack. Highly intelligent and intuitive, they are both precise in their habits and heavily reliant on their instincts. Seeing a wolf in a dream can indicate that you're feeling vulnerable or that you feel you have overexposed yourself emotionally.

Red wolves, in particular, are native to the South. There are only about 300 left in the world, which reminded me of pure bloods. Interbreeding with coyotes is considered a threat to the species, which I thought was a kinda funny analogy to blood purity concerns. Red wolves are less social than grey wolves, but more social than coyotes. They are also slighter and smaller than grey wolves and, of course, red.
Their happy memory: She shuffles through scenes with her family, her friends both back home and at Gooseberry, academic and social milestones, etc. She finally stops and concentrates on a specific memory with Maggie & Nate, just before they left for summer break last year. Cricket and Nate are fishing in the stream that runs through Gooseberry, as Maggie lounges on the banks nearby. As she closes her eyes, she can feel the sun on her face and the squish of mud between her toes. She can hear the sound of water lapping against rocks and the whizz of fishing line unspooling as she casts. She feels calm and happy and safe.

Their attempt: Cricket has been able to produce a patronus for awhile, though it is always difficult for her. She probably would not be able to produce one under duress, but in a calm and supportive environment she can almost always manage a strong manifestation. It takes her a long time to clear her mind of distractions and focus in on a happy memories.
Are they in DADA or Occlumency?: Both.

Tabitha
[info]caritasmitis
2016-12-01 03:43 pm UTC (link)
BECAUSE IJ ATE THE LAST ONE. RUDE.

Name: Tabitha Ogletree
Year: Senior
Patronus Form: Palomino Mare
Why?: Tabitha is a horsey kind of gal, and horses are known for being strong and loyal.
Their happy memory: Returning home after freshman year, getting a huge hug from her mum who told her she was proud of her.
Their attempt: Tabitha hasn't been a happy bunny lately, so she concentrated on this thing like it was everything she's got. It kind of worked as there were fewer distractions to muddy the waters.
Are they in DADA or Occlumency?: Neither.

Dominic Tremblay
[info]thecourtier
2016-12-01 03:47 pm UTC (link)
Name: Dominic Tremblay
Year: Junior
Patronus Form: A grey wolf.
Why?: Pack animal, tough, not as huge as you'd think for its fierceness? Yup, that's Dom alright.
Their happy memory: Hanging out at Christmas, at home, with his family. YEAH HE IS A SAD SACK, WHAT OF IT?!
Their attempt: Dom is a smart guy and pretty chill most of the time. Blocking out the other stuff to concentrate on the memory was pretty easy for him.
Are they in DADA or Occlumency?: Both.

Also, I'm really nosy. Can I ask how the RNG works for this one? *chinhands*

Iris Shacklebolt
[info]irissh
2016-12-01 03:48 pm UTC (link)
Ignoring that I had a big long thing typed up and then IJ ate it!

Name: Iris Shacklebolt
Year: Senior
Patronus Form: Pallas's Cat/manul
Why?: Many reasons!
  • Her dad's patronus is a lynx, and he's very important to her, no matter what she tries to say.
  • Cats and Iris work together: both are secretive, act confident even when they're making complete fools of themselves, indecisive ("open the door!" "...lol jk I'm going to stay inside"), and magical. This was a lot better before IJ ate it.
  • Pallas's cats are particularly emblematic of this, being apex predators but looking... well. Like this.

Their happy memory: Iris kind of went through a LOT of memories: her first blazingly happy memory of seeing her dad for the first time after the War, getting her wand at Ollivander's, her friends here at Gooseberry and back at Hogwarts. She ultimately settled on the first time she arrived at Gooseberry and nobody knew her name.
Their attempt: Despite not being in DADA, Iris is pretty good at Charms and isn't too bad at advanced skills. She's seen basically everyone in her life not only cast this spell since she was wee but use it to communicate with from that time, too. That said, she's still a little miffed about the bonding activity and is still a little shaken over the Amortentia, so she's not at peak form.
Are they in DADA or Occlumency?: Neither!

Laurel Templeton
[info]laaurel
2016-12-01 03:55 pm UTC (link)
Name: Laurel
Year: Senior
Patronus Form: Robin
Why?: Laurel's sun sign is in Gemini. Air. She strikes me as kind of up in the clouds, hopping/flitting from place to place, and a bird kind of feels like a natural choice (I mean, Azurcrest).

Everything I've read about robins in a symbolic sense points to their representing joy in change, springtime, singing your own song, letting go and and accepting growth, ability to find pleasure in simple things. These all strike me as v Laurel-ish in different ways. :)

Robins are also some of the first lil creatures you see when winter is ending and spring is on the way.
Their happy memory: Her first (and only) starring role in Annie, seventh grade. She thinks about how it felt to take a bow and be applauded, to know that her hard work had paid off for the production, and the ways in which her creativity was supported by friends and her sister and parents.
Their attempt: Eh. She's mostly here because she's curious, and she has no real background in either DADA or Occlumency. She might look to be performing slightly better than she actually is. That said, Laurel is kind of cheery and good-vibey and high spirits generally, even if lately she's had a lot on her mind (and those things could easily affect her performance if she allows them to). I think in previous years she's probably been successful casting the spell, if only for a short time, or perhaps less-than-corporeally.
Are they in DADA or Occlumency?: Neither.

Name: Joanna May
Year: Sophomore
Patronus Form: A field mouse
Why?: Small but with a potential for a nasty nip.
Their happy memory: Getting the letter that confirmed she was heading for Gooseberry and out of QSM at last.
Their attempt: She's ambitious, so her ability to focus on the memory is strong. Charms class is the closest she has to the right classes, though.
Are they in DADA or Occlumency?: Neither.

Wilde
[info]destructobot
2016-12-01 04:22 pm UTC (link)
Name: Jonny Wilde
Year: Junior.
Patronus Form: Snow leopard.
Why?: Idk, you guys. Does this not seem like the kind of patronus a super pretentious sullen teen poet would have? Like. It's an endangered species, there aren't that many of them -- special snowflake points there. They're also solitary animals who don't live in packs and really only interact when there's something in it for them, which doesn't completely describe Jonny, but it definitely describes the way he thinks he behaves.

Symbolically, apparently snow leopard is all about intuition and trusting your physical instincts. Snow leopard is supposed to show you how to access peace and higher vibrations of being, etc. Jonny is good at the former and could use some help when it comes to the latter, so. Leopard it is!
Their happy memory: He thinks about how it feels to fly, either on a broom or doing some kind of trick on his board.
Their attempt: Jonny's intelligent and a high performer in his classes. That said, he is a moody lil bitch sometimes? It'd be easy for someone else to wind him up, and then he'd either do REALLY WELL out of spite or just fall flat on his face. That said, he's definitely conjured a patronus before and has the skill to do it again.
Are they in DADA or Occlumency?: Both.

Zoey Valentine
[info]valentinez
2016-12-01 04:40 pm UTC (link)
Name: Z.
Year: Senior.
Patronus Form: It was red panda, but then I realized I had zero idea why and couldn't even make up any reasons, so!! A bit of thought later, and I think she'd actually have an owl.
Why?: Keen sight. The ability to see in darkness, and connection to the spirit realm/psychic ability. It's a symbol of intelligence, wisdom, knowledge. These are all things that Z possesses to some extent (as much as an eighteen year old girl might) and values highly. To me, an owl also seems like the kind of symbolic companion you'd want on your side in a quest for truth or absolute meaning, so -- something Z might need. :)

She's also up all night, kind of weird when you think about it, and looks real cute but has hidden talons.
Their happy memory: In the past, she's thought about things like visiting her grandfather Cathal, making Chaser, the time she found that mistake in a potions textbook and got a lot of recognition/interviewed by media for it, etc. These have all previously worked, for varying reasons. This time nothing really feels super right? She focuses instead on this night from over the most recent summer, when she watched the sun rise from the roof of a friend's apartment building and actually felt like things would be okay.
Their attempt: Z is probably my most magically talented character, but she's also in a weird place emotionally and might not have the juice for this right now. She tries her best, though.
Are they in DADA or Occlumency?: Neither.

Victoria Powers
[info]vicpower
2016-12-01 05:03 pm UTC (link)
Name: Vic Powers
Year: Sophomore
Patronus Form: Sand Cat
Why?: It's small, fierce, adapted to the heat (though more adapted to the cold than Vic is lol), adaptive but often rather solitary.
Their happy memory: Her first memory of her sister. It had been so formless before, but the first strong one was Christmas morning when she was three, opening presents and playing with them with Vee. Yep, she loves her big sis.
Their attempt: She's very diligent and would have tried hard for success. She would be really disappointed if she was unable to produce one.
Are they in DADA or Occlumency?: DADA
