PATRONUS STUDY SESSION

PATRONUS STUDY SESSION

Ms. Lilywhite has been teaching a section on casting Patronuses. Every year, she allows non-DADA students to attend extra study sessions she holds after dinner, because she believes a well-formed Patronus is an important life skill. It’s… not, probably, but who’s going to argue with her?

HOW THIS WORKS

If your character attends these sessions or takes DADA, they will at least learn what their patronus will be and will get a partial formation. The mods will roll to see if your character can cast a successful full-bodied patronus.

Occlumency students are presumed to already be well-versed with this spell, as it requires emotional control and self-awareness, which are invaluable skills in Occlumency, especially if you plan on becoming an Auror. Unless you choose otherwise, all Occlumency students automatically succeed, or can already cast the charm.

Occlumency students: Automatic success.
Seniors in DADA: 75% success.
Seniors not in DADA: 50% success.
Juniors in DADA: 65% success.
Juniors not in DADA: 40% success.
Sophomores in DADA: 55% success.
Sophomores not in DADA: 30% success.

Fill out this form if your character takes Occlumency or attends the extra study sessions:
Name:
Year: Sophomore/Junior/Senior
Patronus Form: It can change from the last time we asked you, but this will be your official “canon” answer.
Why?: What does this animal mean, or why is it significant to them?
Their happy memory: What memory finally worked for them?
Their attempt: Any other notes on how it went for them?
Are they in DADA or Occlumency?: This contributes to the likelihood of their success.

Robin Youngblood

Name: Robin Youngblood
Year: Senior
Patronus Form: Platypus
Why?: The OOC answer is that Robin thinks platypuses are not real animals and were created in a zoo lab by scientists (probably paid by the Illuminati or something, idk, this is an increasingly complicated conspiracy).
The IC answer is that platypuses are symbolic of paradoxes, which Robin is…not afraid of, he’ll say something that directly contradicts something he said earlier, ANYTHING COULD BE WRONG. HE COULD HAVE BEEN LYING. We just don’t know. They also don’t really fit into ~mainstream society~ and they’re ~totally cool with that~ and Robin is a weird hillbilly hipster and ~actually totally cool with not fitting in with all you mainstream sheeple~. And they look super goofy and like you wouldn’t be afraid of them, but never forget that they’re from Australia and can therefore murder you so the male platypuses have venomous ankle spurs. Which is great because, like Robin, you might not take it seriously until you are in an unexpected amount of pain.
Also since he’s in Occlumency, then all of his Occlumency friends totally know his patronus is a platypus, and they STILL have to listen to him bitch about zoo scientists trying to play god.
Their happy memory: The first time he killed a bear with his bare hands That didn’t happen, Robin. But it is actually the first time he killed a deer on his own, and his dad said he could probably just about make it if they forgot him out in these here woods. He was seven. It was awesome.
Their attempt: Robin has been able to cast a patronus for a while. He probably failed the test on the theory and then cast a full-bodied patronus and was like, “k well that’s all that matters right.” He’s impatient and gets frustrated if his more recent attempts aren’t as strong as earlier attempts, but Robin’s saving grace is his sense of humor. If he can laugh at himself, then he can clear his mind and get this shit done right.
Are they in DADA or Occlumency?: Both.
