PATRONUS STUDY SESSION

PATRONUS STUDY SESSION

Ms. Lilywhite has been teaching a section on casting Patronuses. Every year, she allows non-DADA students to attend extra study sessions she holds after dinner, because she believes a well-formed Patronus is an important life skill. It’s… not, probably, but who’s going to argue with her?

HOW THIS WORKS

If your character attends these sessions or takes DADA, they will at least learn what their patronus will be and will get a partial formation. The mods will roll to see if your character can cast a successful full-bodied patronus.

Occlumency students are presumed to already be well-versed with this spell, as it requires emotional control and self-awareness, which are invaluable skills in Occlumency, especially if you plan on becoming an Auror. Unless you choose otherwise, all Occlumency students automatically succeed, or can already cast the charm.

Occlumency students: Automatic success.
Seniors in DADA: 75% success.
Seniors not in DADA: 50% success.
Juniors in DADA: 65% success.
Juniors not in DADA: 40% success.
Sophomores in DADA: 55% success.
Sophomores not in DADA: 30% success.

Fill out this form if your character takes Occlumency or attends the extra study sessions:
Name:
Year: Sophomore/Junior/Senior
Patronus Form: It can change from the last time we asked you, but this will be your official “canon” answer.
Why?: What does this animal mean, or why is it significant to them?
Their happy memory: What memory finally worked for them?
Their attempt: Any other notes on how it went for them?
Are they in DADA or Occlumency?: This contributes to the likelihood of their success.

Pippa Nightingale

Name: Pippa Nightingale
Year: Sophomore
Patronus Form: Sheep! Or, more specifically, a ram.
Why?: I wanted a prey animal for Pippa, and nearly went for something small like a mouse or bunny, but I liked the image of her being a bit of a sheep in real life -- following trends and blindly going along with her friends' plans. She's docile and a ~herd animal~ rather than a loner. But I upgraded her Patronus to a ram because I felt like it needed to be something sturdy and protective. Also, Pippa does have a stubborn streak (buried down deep) and will stand up for her friends or beliefs if she has to. PLUS there are lots of sheep farms where she lives.
Their happy memory: She tried her recent memories from Gooseberry, since she's been happier here than she ever was at Hogwarts, but none of them quite felt strong enough? (Slow dancing with Kurt at the ball might have been a contender, buuuut that memory is tainted by what happened later that night.) So she eventually settled on a happy childhood memory: being asked to sing during a garden party, and everyone applauding her afterwards while she blushed and felt oh so grown up for staying up past her bedtime.
Their attempt: Ahhhh she probably didn't get more than mist, if that. (Don't let me down, RNG!) Pippa deliberately didn't take DADA at Gooseberry because she doesn't like it (it's scary!!!) so casting these kinds of spells isn't really her forte. But she did try! She wanted to discover her Patronus. :(
Are they in DADA or Occlumency?: Neither!

Pippa successfully casts a full bodied patronus!*

* If you want her to fail anyway, you can just say she did, but Pippa actually got the best RNG score of anyone so far. Go Pippa!
