PATRONUS STUDY SESSION

PATRONUS STUDY SESSION

Ms. Lilywhite has been teaching a section on casting Patronuses. Every year, she allows non-DADA students to attend extra study sessions she holds after dinner, because she believes a well-formed Patronus is an important life skill. It’s… not, probably, but who’s going to argue with her?

HOW THIS WORKS

If your character attends these sessions or takes DADA, they will at least learn what their patronus will be and will get a partial formation. The mods will roll to see if your character can cast a successful full-bodied patronus.

Occlumency students are presumed to already be well-versed with this spell, as it requires emotional control and self-awareness, which are invaluable skills in Occlumency, especially if you plan on becoming an Auror. Unless you choose otherwise, all Occlumency students automatically succeed, or can already cast the charm.

Occlumency students: Automatic success.
Seniors in DADA: 75% success.
Seniors not in DADA: 50% success.
Juniors in DADA: 65% success.
Juniors not in DADA: 40% success.
Sophomores in DADA: 55% success.
Sophomores not in DADA: 30% success.

Fill out this form if your character takes Occlumency or attends the extra study sessions:
Name:
Year: Sophomore/Junior/Senior
Patronus Form: It can change from the last time we asked you, but this will be your official “canon” answer.
Why?: What does this animal mean, or why is it significant to them?
Their happy memory: What memory finally worked for them?
Their attempt: Any other notes on how it went for them?
Are they in DADA or Occlumency?: This contributes to the likelihood of their success.

Cecil Honeychurch

Name: Cecil Honeychurch
Year: Senior
Patronus Form: Bees
Why?: Highly social insects that exist in cooperative communities, bees are associated with family, communication, unity, and stability. Because of their elaborate hives and production of honey, they're also associated with order, hard work, and efficiency. Insert sweet as honey jokes here too. Bees are also personally significant to Cecil. His father has kept, bred, and studied (magical and non-magical) bees Cecil's entire life and he grew up helping to take care of them. His mother frequently used the honey from the bees when cooking, a skill which she taught to Cecil. He even keeps a hive near the gardens at Gooseberry and he cares deeply for the insects. He finds the them comforting because he associates them with home and family. Additionally, his first successful bit of magic involved divining through the movements of a swarm of bees and this was a very important experience for him. In short, Cecil without bees isn't Cecil.
Their happy memory: Everything at school is too complicated right now for Cecil to focus exclusively on happy memories when he thinks of Levi or Diego or his other peers, so he turns to his family instead. He thinks of tending the hives with his father, cooking with his mother, and reading to his younger sisters. The memory that does the trick, though, is one of practicing magic with his father when he was twelve. A late bloomer, he'd just started to develop magical ability (after a considerable amount of worrying that he never would) and even learning the most basic charms had felt amazing. He'd been happy, his proud father had been an enthusiastic teacher, and it had been bliss.
Their attempt: Cecil isn't naturally adept at clearing his mind or controlling his emotions, but he does know a lot of tricks to help with that because of Divination and this helps quite a bit. He's also focused, a serious student, and a hard worker, so no matter how it turns out, he made a good attempt!
Are they in DADA or Occlumency?: Nope.

So part of Chris is like 'wow, something Cecil can't do' which is a shitty thought and I'm sorry he's an asshole.

But he's also still bothered that his own patronus is now a deer for apparently no reason, so afterwards he told Cecil that it was a good effort, and if he actually wants to learn how to produce a patronus even though it's definitely not an actual life skill, he could help him practice, since that's a distraction and Cecil's not allowed to bake anymore so.

So good to him, Chris~

Cecil has no idea where Chris got this odd idea that he's good at everything. He isn't. He just works his butt off. That said, he's not particularly upset about his failure, just a little disappointed. But Chris coming over to encourage him makes him smile (see, he knew you were a good guy) and he thanks the other boy warmly. And, if he has time, he may just take him up on that offer! It seems like Chris is quite efficient with this, so he's sure he'd be a great teacher.

Because you're good at everything, cecil, it might be jealousy, but chris denies that because he obviously cannot feel jealousy so. And being thanked warmly about literally anything still throws chris off because all of his friends are assholes.

But I'm loling at Cecil being sure chris would be a great teacher, because this is chris. Could you imagine him in charge of children. That's hilarious.
