PATRONUS STUDY SESSION

PATRONUS STUDY SESSION

Ms. Lilywhite has been teaching a section on casting Patronuses. Every year, she allows non-DADA students to attend extra study sessions she holds after dinner, because she believes a well-formed Patronus is an important life skill. It’s… not, probably, but who’s going to argue with her?

HOW THIS WORKS

If your character attends these sessions or takes DADA, they will at least learn what their patronus will be and will get a partial formation. The mods will roll to see if your character can cast a successful full-bodied patronus.

Occlumency students are presumed to already be well-versed with this spell, as it requires emotional control and self-awareness, which are invaluable skills in Occlumency, especially if you plan on becoming an Auror. Unless you choose otherwise, all Occlumency students automatically succeed, or can already cast the charm.

Occlumency students: Automatic success.
Seniors in DADA: 75% success.
Seniors not in DADA: 50% success.
Juniors in DADA: 65% success.
Juniors not in DADA: 40% success.
Sophomores in DADA: 55% success.
Sophomores not in DADA: 30% success.

Fill out this form if your character takes Occlumency or attends the extra study sessions:
Name:
Year: Sophomore/Junior/Senior
Patronus Form: It can change from the last time we asked you, but this will be your official “canon” answer.
Why?: What does this animal mean, or why is it significant to them?
Their happy memory: What memory finally worked for them?
Their attempt: Any other notes on how it went for them?
Are they in DADA or Occlumency?: This contributes to the likelihood of their success.

.... jk Calderon-Boot offered him extra credit if he went and engaged with the rest of the student body and he REALLY doesn't want to lose his scholarship so. Here he is.

Name: Reid Wainwright
Year: Junior
Patronus Form: Mute Swan
Why?: Swans symbolize grace, balance, unions, purity, effortlessness, love. They're one of the heaviest waterfowl, and they're called "mute" because they're remarkably less vocal than other swans. Mute swans mate for life and are extremely territorial and potentially aggressive. I LOVE BIRDS MATING FOR LIFE IT'S SO ROMANTIC. ♥ Ironic, maybe, since Reid... is not romantic at all, but look, he's an extremely loyal guy.

Some website says "Swan people have to work to embrace their inner beauty and let it shine through. Swan people have a deep devotion to their family and are often self-sacrificing for the sake of their children. It’s only through growth and experience, however, that swans learn just how strong they really are."
Their happy memory: The sensation of free falling, followed by the rush of your broom kicking back in as he just skims the tall grass of the fields around Coppertale.
Their attempt: Reid can clear his mind like a pro. However, he's god a complex relationship with emotions, and may struggle to feel happy enough to conjure much of anything.
Are they in DADA or Occlumency?: Neither.

Reid fails to cast a full bodied patronus.
