PATRONUS STUDY SESSION

PATRONUS STUDY SESSION

Ms. Lilywhite has been teaching a section on casting Patronuses. Every year, she allows non-DADA students to attend extra study sessions she holds after dinner, because she believes a well-formed Patronus is an important life skill. It’s… not, probably, but who’s going to argue with her?

HOW THIS WORKS

If your character attends these sessions or takes DADA, they will at least learn what their patronus will be and will get a partial formation. The mods will roll to see if your character can cast a successful full-bodied patronus.

Occlumency students are presumed to already be well-versed with this spell, as it requires emotional control and self-awareness, which are invaluable skills in Occlumency, especially if you plan on becoming an Auror. Unless you choose otherwise, all Occlumency students automatically succeed, or can already cast the charm.

Occlumency students: Automatic success.
Seniors in DADA: 75% success.
Seniors not in DADA: 50% success.
Juniors in DADA: 65% success.
Juniors not in DADA: 40% success.
Sophomores in DADA: 55% success.
Sophomores not in DADA: 30% success.

Fill out this form if your character takes Occlumency or attends the extra study sessions:
Name:
Year: Sophomore/Junior/Senior
Patronus Form: It can change from the last time we asked you, but this will be your official “canon” answer.
Why?: What does this animal mean, or why is it significant to them?
Their happy memory: What memory finally worked for them?
Their attempt: Any other notes on how it went for them?
Are they in DADA or Occlumency?: This contributes to the likelihood of their success.

Name: Ryan Hertz
Year: Senior
Patronus Form: Maned Wolf. (Up until now, it was a Bat)
Why?: The Maned Wolf is associated with independence, aloofness, and secretiveness. Sometimes people associated with them have a tendency towards avoidance, but they're steadfast friends and extremely loyal once trust is gained. They follow their own path and don't give into pressures to conform. They're unique, individualistic, sensitive, shy, and often misunderstood. The Bat was a symbol of transformation, often indicating the need for personal transformation and breaking of old habits, which makes sense given all the changes he's gone through recently.
Their happy memory: It was kind of a mash-up? The main memory was when Mrs. Park called him "son" for the first time, but there's a bunch of things from over the years with her and Chris. One teeny piece where he remembers France, and wait...is that Zoey?! Ahem. Must've been mistaken.
Their attempt: Ryan has been able to cast one for awhile, and it's usually fairly simple. Despite his pessimistic nature, he clings to these good memories and can stay relatively calm when needed.
Are they in DADA or Occlumency?: Both
