Chloe Shepherd
Name: Chloe Shepherd
Year: Junior
Patronus Form: Hedgehog
Why?: Hedgehogs are unique, and though they may seem meek, they are are friendly, curious creatures. They are gentle yet protective of themselves, and nocturnal, but can still be kept as pets.

Folk legends often associate Hedgehogs with intelligence, creativity, and inventiveness. Romans claimed to witness the creature knocking off grapes from vines and rolling on them, spearing the grapes on their backs and carrying them away to dine on at a later date. In the Brothers Grimm story “The Hare and the Hedgehog”, a hedgehog and his wife outsmart a cocky hare who wants to race.

When threatened, hedgehogs curl themselves into a ball. Unlike porcupines, hedgehogs are not aggressive about using their quills, which are permanently attached to their bodies and are not barbed, and can even be pet if they aren’t frightened. Though not confrontational, and preferring to flee from a fight before it begins, this defense mechanism protects them in a big, cruel world. Hedgehogs are known to be resistant to snake venom. This isn’t true; hedgehogs may be harder to bite, but if a snake gets past their quills, a hedgehog is just as vulnerable as any other creature. Hedgehogs’ quills symbolize putting space - intentional or not - between one’s self and others.
Their happy memory: Chloe tries a number of family related memories, because it seems to work for a lot of other people? It doesn’t, though. The memory that works is one of getting to see a unicorn in her first year Care of Magical Creatures class. It was the moment when magic suddenly seemed really, tangibly real. Everything she had previously thought was fiction could be real, and the world was full of possibilities.
Their attempt: Chloe’s whole attempt was nervous and uncertain, and she was increasingly stressed and self-doubting the longer she goes without managing. Maybe nothing that happy has ever happened in her life? Maybe she is defective?? This spiral will undoubtedly continue if someone doesn’t intervene to encourage her (and also point out that stress is pretty counterproductive to this activity).
Are they in DADA or Occlumency?: N/N
