PATRONUS STUDY SESSION

PATRONUS STUDY SESSION

Ms. Lilywhite has been teaching a section on casting Patronuses. Every year, she allows non-DADA students to attend extra study sessions she holds after dinner, because she believes a well-formed Patronus is an important life skill. It’s… not, probably, but who’s going to argue with her?

HOW THIS WORKS

If your character attends these sessions or takes DADA, they will at least learn what their patronus will be and will get a partial formation. The mods will roll to see if your character can cast a successful full-bodied patronus.

Occlumency students are presumed to already be well-versed with this spell, as it requires emotional control and self-awareness, which are invaluable skills in Occlumency, especially if you plan on becoming an Auror. Unless you choose otherwise, all Occlumency students automatically succeed, or can already cast the charm.

Occlumency students: Automatic success.
Seniors in DADA: 75% success.
Seniors not in DADA: 50% success.
Juniors in DADA: 65% success.
Juniors not in DADA: 40% success.
Sophomores in DADA: 55% success.
Sophomores not in DADA: 30% success.

Fill out this form if your character takes Occlumency or attends the extra study sessions:
Name:
Year: Sophomore/Junior/Senior
Patronus Form: It can change from the last time we asked you, but this will be your official “canon” answer.
Why?: What does this animal mean, or why is it significant to them?
Their happy memory: What memory finally worked for them?
Their attempt: Any other notes on how it went for them?
Are they in DADA or Occlumency?: This contributes to the likelihood of their success.

Cole Moss

Name: Cole Moss
Year: Sophomore
Patronus Form: Spider
Why?: Spider webs can be among the most beautiful and intricate structures created in the natural world and building them is a fundamental, necessary part of a spider's survival. This is a fitting parallel for Cole's relationship with his art. He wouldn't know what to do or how to live without it. In addition to being associated with creation and resourcefulness, spiders are often connected to the limitless, the mysterious, the powerful, and the strange. Like Cole, they're a little hard to get and a little misunderstood.
Their happy memory: When he received Leonora, his barn owl, as a gift from his father before going off to Ilvermorny. She's been fussing over him and protecting him and grousing at him ever since and the memory couldn't make him happier.
Their attempt: In typical Cole fashion, he shows up for the lesson and zones out while Ms. Lilywhite talks and goes through the exercise with an annoying lack of focus. He is, however, an adept wizard and fairly even-tempered (so he doesn't have much emotional control to exert anyway), so he may manage. If he does fail, though, he'll be more confused than upset (because that almost never happens to him) and go consult Calvin since he's got this!
Are they in DADA or Occlumency?: Defense Against the Dark Arts only

Cole isn't this kind of spider. But I wish he could be this kind of spider.

Right? XD I think it's a Peacock Spider. Unfortunately, they're ridiculously tiny.

Cole fails to cast a full-bodied patronus.
