PATRONUS STUDY SESSION

PATRONUS STUDY SESSION

Ms. Lilywhite has been teaching a section on casting Patronuses. Every year, she allows non-DADA students to attend extra study sessions she holds after dinner, because she believes a well-formed Patronus is an important life skill. It’s… not, probably, but who’s going to argue with her?

HOW THIS WORKS

If your character attends these sessions or takes DADA, they will at least learn what their patronus will be and will get a partial formation. The mods will roll to see if your character can cast a successful full-bodied patronus.

Occlumency students are presumed to already be well-versed with this spell, as it requires emotional control and self-awareness, which are invaluable skills in Occlumency, especially if you plan on becoming an Auror. Unless you choose otherwise, all Occlumency students automatically succeed, or can already cast the charm.

Occlumency students: Automatic success.
Seniors in DADA: 75% success.
Seniors not in DADA: 50% success.
Juniors in DADA: 65% success.
Juniors not in DADA: 40% success.
Sophomores in DADA: 55% success.
Sophomores not in DADA: 30% success.

Fill out this form if your character takes Occlumency or attends the extra study sessions:
Name:
Year: Sophomore/Junior/Senior
Patronus Form: It can change from the last time we asked you, but this will be your official “canon” answer.
Why?: What does this animal mean, or why is it significant to them?
Their happy memory: What memory finally worked for them?
Their attempt: Any other notes on how it went for them?
Are they in DADA or Occlumency?: This contributes to the likelihood of their success.

Sybilla Borgin

Name: Sybilla Borgin
Year: Junior
Patronus Form: Raven
Why?: Birds known for their wisdom as well as for being messengers between the worlds of the living and the dead, able to navigate the duality of light and darkness. They often represent omens of death in battle, and are scavenger birds, picking from those slain in war (symbolism of dead relatives from the wizarding wars, perhaps, Sylla?). In many cultures they represent creation, of bringing life from death and darkness. But on a less mythological level, ravens are extremely clever birds, are adaptable and intelligent, very linked to their family groups, highly territorial, and are known to form lifelong monogamous relationships.
(If you feel like some tl;dr on raven mythology as linked to their actual characteristics and traits, I.E. ravens have zero chill and are perfect for Sylla's patronus form.)
Also note - she is still convinced this will be her animagus form, but it most certainly is not. In any way, shape, or form. But she'll find that bad news out eventually.
Their happy memory: The first time her father let her into his workshop at home and assist him with a project for Borgin & Burke's. She was 10, so she wasn't able to cast any spells, but she did help with some translations and arcane spell theory, and hearing her father say he is so proud of her and seeing his wide grin is the happiest memory she has ever felt.
Their attempt: Probably decent? She's a strong, intuitive spell caster, able to focus on the task at hand since it means a lot to her, but we'll see with rolls.
Are they in DADA or Occlumency?: DADA

She is also not entirely unconvinced that the patronus can also represent who she is in love with, since the only form of infatuation she has ever felt is for Noel Fielding, so this may just cement it for her. Yes that is her high school secret crush.

For reference, Noel Fielding's Christmas raven. IDK it's hard for me to really convey her weird sense of humor but she connects with Noel Fielding on a spiritual level~
