It's all talk talk talk, until someone actually takes action

Characters: Carmel, Ryan, OPEN (maybe Caroline also? up to you!)
Setting: Courtyard, after almost everyone clears out after the stocks scene.

Carmel finally drug herself outside, squinting faintly in the light. Maybe she could use a drink so she could legitimately feel like shit. She didn't join with everyone like she normally would, only lingered in the back right near her room, hoping that would satisfy the idiot administration enough. She didn't condone it, but if the people wanted to go through with it, it was there decision. She'd caught enough of what Wren said for her to agree with that.

She raised a hand to her face, blocking the already bright sun. It was going to be a warm, bright day, she suspected. She'd heard people say something about shade, but no one looked like they were getting off their butts to actually construct something. Instead of following everyone to the kitchen, for once she avoided it, not feeling particularly people-y, and once most of them were gone, she ducked first into her room for a set of sheets--just washed, she thought with a sigh--and a few towels, willing to give herself options before making a bee-line for the tool shed.

Hopefully Caroline would know she wasn't out to hurt anyone. She was one of the least violent people here unless directly threatened or someone got her protective instincts up.

She already had an idea of how to construct something, so she grabbed the two brooms she found and unscrewed their handles before going for the rake and the shovel, doing the same thing to those. She grabbed a hammer, and a spade in case she might use it, and so burdened, she headed over to where Ryan was already sitting. She greeted him cordially, wondering what he'd done, and set to work, starting to hammer the first wooden length of wood into the ground. If she did it just right, the fitted sheet might actually have a use after all...

Vote with Your Feet, People!

Characters: Charlie and open to all!!
Setting: The Courtyard, following directly on from this scene

Charlie decided that, if they were ever going to reach a conclusion about this bullshit, someone was going to have to take charge. Proper charge. And that, he decided, may as well be him.

He jumped up onto one of the stocks and balanced himself, raised up above the milling people and standing on what was the focus of their conversations, if not their direct attention. "Okay, people. Look - I get it. We've been put in a shitty situation. Apparently, two people here have fucked up. Nobody's bothered to tell us how, or give us any information, other than the fact that we're meant to put them into these things here." He banged his foot hard several times against the wood. "So, we can stand here and argue about 'human rights' and 'cruel and unusual punishment' and what the fuck they will do to us if we don't bow to their every command. But, really, it comes down to a simple choice: are we doing this or not?" He let that question linger for a moment or two, then continued. "So, what I suggest is a really simple check. Everyone who thinks that we should go ahead with the punishment as mandated, go stand over by the tool shed. Those that think we should look up at the cameras and say 'fuck you' to the people watching? You go stand by the gym. Let's see what we all think. Vote with your feet people!" he announced, before jumping down, and heading right over to stand by the gym. He leaned against the building, waiting to see what everyone else would do.

Ellipsis

Characters: Wren and Ryan
Setting: his room

Wren saw everything going on, and rubbed at her eyes a little. She normally got up early in the first place, though she had been asleep when the alarm sounded. The night before she'd been up late, thinking over everything. Like Chester. Charlie. Whatever his name really was.

Seeing Ryan's name, however, had her pushing everything else aside. She then read the message he had sent her, and she didn't know how to feel about it. In the end, she wound up staring at her screen for a long moment, before she quietly got up, changed into a day dress, then exited her room, to knock on Ryan's. "Ryan?" she called, just loud enough that she might be heard.

It's football time in... wherever we are!

Characters: Ryan and OPEN
Setting: Courtyard, around 2:30 p.m.

Ryan grabbed the football from his room, where he’d stashed it after he found it the other day. While he was completely comfortable with having his circle of acquaintances so far being female, he knew it would look odd in the long run, and besides, he couldn’t afford not to have male ‘friends’ in this place. So one of the best bonding things he knew of was football, which he’d played through high school. Team things weren’t his favorite, but he’d done it, and he’d fit in.

He headed down to the courtyard, wondering if any of the people who commented on his journal would show up. He tossed the ball up, letting it rotate and catching it again easily. He had been a decent sportsman. He headed over to one of the benches, waiting to see if anyone was going to join him for a pick up game of sorts.

Feed the birds

Characters: Ryan, Mazie
Setting: Courtyard, early afternoon

Ryan sat on a bench out in the courtyard, slouched and sprawl-kneed. He looked utterly relaxed, though inside he still buzzed. Buzzed from Susanna, buzzed from the options he had before him in this place. He should make sure to talk to at least one of the women again today. Wren and Becka both intrigued him greatly, if for completely different reasons.

No reason not to have options, after all, he thought as he crumbled another biscuit he’d taken from the kitchen and tossed the crumbs to a few enterprising sparrows and a pigeon. He didn’t particularly care for birds, but bird-watching was always a good excuse for people-watching, and bird-feeding was a good excuse for being in a park where someone he was interested in also was.

Besides, animal lovers weren’t dangerous, right?

It was a soothing and innocuous practice, though, and he wanted to watch these people more, meet a few more of them. And the sun was warm on his skin. It wasn’t freedom, but it was more than he’d had in a long time.

Maybe she was innocuous, maybe not... )

Scrounging up food

Characters: Ryan and Susanna
Setting: Kitchen, around 11a.m. or so.
Warnings: Somewhat NSFW

Ryan dug around in the fridge. His hair was still wet from the shower, curling slightly at the nape of his neck. He liked to sleep in, though he woke to the disappointment that he’d missed biscuits and gravy. Well, there were still biscuits and gravy, but the gravy would have to be warmed up. But he could do the biscuits… with butter, and jam, maybe.

Or honey. Or all of the above, he thought, his stomach rumbling audibly. Among so many other things, he did miss his mother’s cooking. She’d often cooked for him even after he’d gone out on his own.

He took out the strawberry jelly and the butter, and he would look for the honey while the biscuits warmed up. He grabbed three to start with, halving them and putting butter between them. He grabbed some paper towels, wetting them and squeezing them so they were only damp before spreading them over the biscuits on the plate, humming quietly in anticipation.

Hide And Seek

Characters: Autumn and Everyone Playing Games
Setting: after dark, starting at the courtyard

Autumn had gotten a sheet of poster board from the activity room, and she had drawn up a big sign. It said 'HIDE AND SEEK' and beneath it were a list of rules. Sure, there weren't many, but she figured it was best to have them down and all. What she'd written down was:
* All hiding must take place in public areas!
* Once you're found you have to return to this tree!
* Aiding and abetting IS allowed!
* Have fun!

She thought it was a decent list. She'd also left room for new rules as they went. She was disappointed that she couldn't find enough flashlights to get them playing flashlight tag, but maybe she'd request them later.

Eating and Musing

Characters: Carmel and OPEN
Setting: Cafeteria, around 6:30 p.m.

Carmel had set out dinner, the chicken well roasted, a big, big bowl of mashed potatoes, and a huge mess of green beans. She'd check back later this evening to see if there was enough chicken leftover to tear up for chicken salad or sandwiches or something tomorrow; she wasn't sure how many people would eat. She served herself up a healthy plate as well as a bit of salad from the veggies that had been sent and went ahead to the cafeteria. No one seemed to stand on much ceremony here, which was just as well, she supposed.

As she dug in--mmm, butter on her potatoes, yum--she wondered if she'd see Dominic and Meg here later. It was still odd that she'd clicked with the man so quickly, but she found she was worried about him. She hoped he knew he could come to her and she'd not say anything. Then there was the thought that she needed to put up something on the fridge or counter or something, start a roster. She hadn't gotten a lot of response on her journal yet, though a couple was a start, she thought. If it was even going to be possible to put organization on this place.

She sighed, eating her food slowly to savor it. She was keeping herself busy, she knew. It made the time fast, and kept her from worrying about things too much. She really should make more of an effort to meet everyone...

The start of everything again...

Characters: Ryan and Wren
Location: hallway on Level 2
Warning: With Ryan, there's possibly going to be language at times, if only in his thoughts, just sayin'.

Ryan had caught up on his sleep when he'd be turned loose here. He didn't know what was in store for him, but he was generally unconcerned. Certainly he didn't like the fact that wherever he was, he was going to have to start all over again from scratch. It was inconvenient and bothersome and would take a lot of effort, but he'd done it before and he would do it again.

He got up, stretching languidly, and explored his closet, pleased to find a selection of clothes much to his liking, and even better, a cowboy hat in the top of the closet. His lips curved into a smirk as he set it on the bed and started shedding his prison jumpsuit, leaving it on the floor and padding naked into his private bathroom for a long, hot shower. It was, perhaps, not the same sort of fun without others there, but privacy had a joy all its own.
