Scorpius had managed to get a good bottle of merlot and had charmed it to the proper temperature. There was a myth that all reds should be at room temperature, but the problem with that supposition was that it assumed all rooms were the same. There was a proper chill that was perfect for a red, and Scorpius made sure to get to just that point before he decanted it and let it breathe.

It was strange having wine of his own to do this with, and oddly enough, that almost more than anything else made him feel like an adult. His wine, his house, his glass... he heard footsteps in the hall and mentally amended that to include his mum.

He poured a second glass and had it out, offering it as she came into sight. "Wine?"

Scor was reading when Draco walked in. He'd requested a book on the roots of spellwork, one that allowed a person to look at the places that spells had come from in order to divulge how they were put together. He was fascinated by the intricacies of how a hex could be similar to a curse, differing only slightly in intonation, wording, and intent. It wasn't that he wanted to create new spells; he'd leave that those more creative than him. But if he could take them apart, he could better figure out how to fix the damage.

And more importantly, how to fix things that had been considered unfixable.

But when he heard footsteps, he looked up, grinning. "Dad. Hi. Is it lunch already?"

As time came to break for lunch, Scorpius couldn't decide whether to look forward to a research oriented conversation with a colleague or feeling incredibly awkward about having lunch with his mate's mum. He was going to have to stop thinking about people as folks' mums and dads and starting thinking of them as people. Which didn't sound difficult, considering they were his own age and that made it confusing to think of them as parents. But at the same time, he remembered Mrs. Weasley well enough that there was a definite disconnect in his mind.

Still. She was a brilliant Witch and he was able to sit and pick her brain and share information. This was entirely brilliant, if he could just forget about her being Rose's mum. For lunch at least.

He gathered together the fresh notes he had started to put together since arriving two weeks before along with a stack of books he had collected. Lunch balanced atop all of that, along with a quill gripped in his teeth because it was the most convenient place to carry it at the moment. He set it all down when he found Hermione, and grinned. "I hope you meant what you said about research over lunch," he said, "because I took you at your word. I'm often literal where knowledge is concerned."

It wasn't exactly his birthday. It had either passed, or wasn't due for a few months, but Scorpius was trying to pretend that it didn't matter. He was deciding that those two months had somehow been absorbed into his personal timeline and simply disappeared. Missed.

Besides, accepting it meant an excuse for a party, and getting to see his mates and others in the village and then he could accomplish his goal of integrating. So he'd made sure there was food, although he hadn't bothered with decorations. Instead he'd spent his time trying to sort something for music, so they could have something going in the background.
