Why is it drinkers have the best stories? I learn so many things when I'm refilling drinks and sitting with the soldiers who come into Barachiel's, most of which I'm sure they would blush if they figure out they were telling a fourteen year old. Or maybe not, I only know a few soldiers and they don't have a lot of shame.

Seems there's been a lot of chatter lately... some of it is juicy, too! Don't know how much of it to believe, but I hope the guy who mentioned that his dog's about to have puppies was one of the trustworthy ones, since I'm hoping my parents will let me take one.

Earlier that morning, a patient had died on his table, having bled for profusely that it would've been impossible to save her. Her name had been Elizabeth -- a rather pretty name, he thought later -- and he'd been the one to contact her family.

And so he came home to his wife with hands so clean, it was as if he hadn't dealt with death mere hours ago. The death of a patient was never easy. But Uriel knew better than to take it personally. If the Maker took, then there was nothing he could do, yet still it bothered him so. Not enough to speak about it, but enough to allow his mood to suffer for it.

I was going to write out a complaint, but then I decided I was too lazy.

[Castor never noticed it, but when people came too close, he had a tendency to flinch. If people swung an arm too close to his face, he'd back up. And two people really knew why he did this, only one of which he actually, truly card for. The way he reacted was subtle, noticeable but not distracting. Over the years, he'd reacted less violently, flinched less and trusted more easily.
