I thought I saw Niflheimian soldiers coming into the region. Is there something I'm not aware of? I know I haven't been in talks because I'm not the sultan, but- Why are we allowing soldiers into our land or is this simply a mistake?

If it isn't a mistake, then what is happening? Horus, did you authorize this? Set? Anybody? Why would we let foreign soldiers traipse through the region? I hope you aren't stupid enough to trust them if they made promises about not going places they shouldn't

[Admittedly, Nephthys showing up out of nowhere at his house and looking after him had been startling at first. Then he'd eased into it and it wasn't so bad...until she hugged him tightly and kissed his cheek. Then it was definitely strange. His mother had never done that. Even now she'd been known to hang back more than she was for these sorts of reactions.

The fact that she'd insisted on cooking him meals and always checked to see how he was doing was also strange. It wasn't any easier to understand when Osiris and Horus also showed up at his house, talking to him about everything and anything, but never poking about. His father likely wouldn't poke, but his brother? Horus was very pokey.

Which brought him to another strange point. Bastet. Bastet was in his house, bubbly as ever but also surprisingly less pokey. She just had a habit of making him watch movies and dragged the other three with her. It was like family time, but this was obviously weird family time. Something was weird. He may have enjoyed the constant love and affection, but that didn't mean it was normal.]

I never thought I would be staying under my parents' roof again. They're always off traveling somewhere, so it's not that awkward. I just shouldn't have to rely on anyone and it's further from work. At least the cat seems happy enough to snoop around as she pleases.

[Remembering a time when waking up in his own bed wasn't an unexpected occurrence, Donovan had spent most of his morning contemplative and distracted. Nearly burning the toast and then spilling the orange juice across the counter while staring blankly out the kitchen window at the city that hadn't noticeably changed at all during his brief absence, Donovan had far more on his mind to silently worry about.

During breakfast, his roommate's bad mood wasn't unusual enough to be immediately concerning, attributing the higher level of one-sided tension between them to the events over the last week that they both were avoiding bringing up. They hadn't ran into each other in the maze, but they both were there, and Donovan had an uncomfortable feeling that Altan knew something important that he wasn't sharing.

Conversations with Death and Bastet stirred thoughts that seemed better left untouched. Maybe he wasn't supposed to know. Maybe things would go back to normal again if he ignored it, or at least until they were involuntarily yanked into another messy situation that he had yet to understand.

But after being forcibly dragged from his chair and locked into the cramped closet for reasons that weren't given, Donovan quickly realized that the brief charade of normalcy that morning was unfortunately short-lived. At first he waited patiently for his roommate to return with (or even without) an explanation, but then the apartment was far too quiet and it was obvious after a few hours and a dozen ignored text messages and declined calls that Altan had no intention of letting him out any time soon. Despite her best efforts, however, her mother didn't seem to be getting better and had ended up hospitalized once again. To say Eve was wearing herself thin with worry would be putting it mildly.]

We all want the same thing: justice for the voices that go unheard. Help for the working class, those who support this region and struggle every day because the upper classes do not offer enough aid. Many are forced to first beg before anything is possibly given and that isn't right. Whether a nobleman or a peasant, help should never be granted when you are at the end of your rope and must also sacrifice your pride just for coin or a bit of food.

I know there is unrest and I know that things can go wrong in the next few days. In the very case things get out of control, please see my sister for how to get out of the city and then Ilium. I pray it we do not end up having to use force I pray so hard that things can be peaceful but we must be prepared for anything.

This was not what Horus had been expecting. He had no illusions whatsoever as to how the lower class should be treated. He hadn't been expecting the glitz and glamor so typical of the city, nor the relaxed opulence of his own family seat. But, surely, for a man who worked as hard as Percival did, there was more than this? The house was, though not a total disaster, obviously a work of odds and ends. There were bits and places in need of good repair. Some of the stone in the walls was beginning to corrode, too. Almost as if, for all its rocky strength, the house was waiting to be blown away by a whisper of wind.

Horus descended from his steed and looped the reins around a nearby tree. He went up to the frail-looking house and knocked on the door, a tad more gently than was usual for his gruff demeanor. His concerns had been about land and produce, technical things like crop rotations and yield, but with another glance at the house's weary facade, Horus decided that there were, perhaps, matters of greater urgency.

I pricked myself today. I never prick myself. But it wouldn't stop bleeding, and I nearly smeared it upon my work. I sucked it clean, and now I can't wash the taste of blood from my tongue.
