Who: Edwin, Felix, and Pam OPEN MULTIPLES WELCOME
When: A little after 1am
Where: Near the waterfall on the way to the Nature Center
It felt nice to be able to say that the trio had made it most of the way to the nature center, together, without needing to use the sword or the crossbow. There were several points where Pam thought that she might need to get her bolts loaded up, or that Edwin unsheathed his sword to have ready, just in case, but each time had just been high anxiety and a trick of the shadows, and one moment where the blanket had dragged behind Pam after she'd improperly tucked it back into her bag, and the scraping sound behind her had nearly sent her running, but they'd fixed that one easily enough. Clearly tensions were high, and they still had a river to cross before they could even see if they could get down to the nature center.
Pam had been pleased to announce early on that she'd gotten a few notes on her network post, and that they had been early enough on in their walk that she was pretty sure there were friends not too far behind them, though it had been decided that they'd keep walking to a specific destination before they tried to group up. The forest was still dark, after all, and without a proper way to navigate, it was easy to believe that they'd just keep passing each other without ever seeing each other. No one had asked them to wait up anyway, so the Nature Center plan remained.
Edwin might have provided an exception to the rule of not going out to find someone, if only he'd answer his message already. The silence from Oliver had Edwin distracted, once again putting more of the work on Felix, since Pam had no sense of where they were going. He felt bad about it, but checking his phone had become an unconscious habit, to the point that he'd even tried to use his phone as a phone, which unfortunately didn't work, though he wasn't sure if that was an Oliver thing or just a TPTB thing. All he knew was that by the time that they had gotten to the waterfall and the part of the river that it was easiest to cross, his phone was down to 14% battery from all the pointless checking.
Oliver wasn't coming, but some people were, and as the small group stood at the side of the river, Pam looked to the gentlemen joining her, then set her bag and crossbow down. "We should take a break here," she decided, for the first time not whispering. "With the water running through here, I imagine they can't hear us, right? Like... The water's not quiet." Was it hearing that made these things find them? Or smell? Or maybe just the trackers in everyone's necks? "Plus honestly I kind of want to just soak my feet for a minute. Like, oh my god, I need to get back into my speed walking routines.
Edwin just shrugged, using the moment to once again glance down at his phone (still nothing), and scan the area around them. It seemed safe, but it wasn't like he could see too far into the trees. "Have you heard from anyone else?" he asked as Pam kicked off her shoes and plopped down next to the river.
"I will check," she said pleasantly, though her next move was to pull off her socks and stretch her legs out in front of her and into the water. "Oh, this is good."
