"I will." Chase squeezed Lennon back, maybe for a second too long as part of him wanted to change his mind and stay. The porch the night before had been bad enough, even with all of the light around everyone, and wandering willingly back into the dark after coming so far, and feeling like he wanted to sit for at least an hour, went against his gut. But Kiley was still out there somewhere, and he wasn't leaving her out there alone with no phone, and no idea if any of them were okay.
"Ready," he told Owen as he patted himself down, checking to make sure everything was secure, his flashlight in hand, then began heading into the darkness again.
Felix handed the flashlight over, already resigned to being a pack mule, shoving everything he could into his bag and fastening his shoes up high to keep them dry. He glanced around for a stick or something, anything, he might use to keep himself from falling even if there was light, but the idea of wandering closer to the woods now that they'd been under the moon and in a group for a while felt as dumb as two idiots wandering off on a mission to rescue who the heck knew what. He took out his phone as if intending to use it as a light source as he walked toward the line of trees.
"Just gonna find a walking stick or some shit, I'm not volunteering as tribute," he assured the group, even as he walked a few feet away. He did end up using the phone as a light source, but not before tossing out a quick text, his first of the night, then aiming the light down as he looked and found a stick that seemed like it might hold for a bit.
