[Sesshoumaru can frequently be found near the koi pond as the day wanes, watching the inmates come and go as Mizuki amuses herself by darting for the edge of the water and then back again to the Western Lord's side.

For the most part, he ignores his companion's splashing and attempts to lure him into her games. It would be unseemly for him to indulge in such antics, particularly in his current form. Though Mizuki's companionship does make the place tolerable for the time being, Sesshoumaru is far from content in Marina. Now fully rested after the rebellion against Acumen, he finds himself once more frustrated and lacking a suitable outlet for his energies.

He turns away from his perusal of his fellow inmates to watch Mizuki more closely when, quite suddenly, movement on the pond's surface catches his attention. Sesshoumaru freezes, eyes wide.

Across the surface of the pond, a battle that could never be takes place. A tall demon, his white hair swept high into a warrior's topknot, pushes forward, expression grim as his sword strikes Bakusaiga and forces the weapon and its wielder back. It is the battle that Sesshoumaru long dreamed of waging with his father, the battle that was stolen from him the day the Inu no Taisho died for the sake of a human woman and a halfbreed whelp.

Before the vision reaches its end, Sesshoumaru reaches down and, in a blur of motion, skips a pebble across the water's surface, disrupting the reflection and obscuring the conclusion of the conflict. He sneers and turns his back on the pond.]

Well, I guess it's official. I'm shit out of luck and desperate for a distraction.

So, porn or zombies?

And if you've got a secret stash, I want in on it!

[ Yep, someone's managed to avoid all the mirrors today. Blame Cas for disappearing. Dean's in no mood to see how crappy he actually looks. And, if ever there was one thing that helped cheer Dean up, it was a good horror flick and some porn. ]

[ There's a boy in Victorian-style clothing seated outside of the library. He's currently scowling down at the convenient Marina brochure received by new inmates, his brow furrowed as he reads through it a second time. Given that it isn't any more palatable this time than the first, he sets it aside momentarily, instead choosing to remove his communicator--which is fitted to wear over his left eye, thankfully, as it would be rather useless over his right--and fiddle with it, turning it to and fro in his hands and inspecting it from every angle. He knows what it's for. The brochure had done a good enough job describing that, at least. But how it actually works is another matter entirely.

Ciel has hardly moved since arriving in the prison; the restraint around his leg is rather uncomfortable and terribly cumbersome to walk with. He looks fairly miffed, but you should definitely come bother him anyway. He could probably use some help with that communicator, if nothing else.

Oh, and he's called a certain butler's name twice already, so he'd best be on his way. ]

Sebastian sat up with a start, hand instinctively moving to his chest to clutch the poorly stitched wound. Realization struck... for the first time in a few days. He'd been a drone; following the mundane rituals that the robotic orderlies had enforced. It hadn't sunk in, the magnitude of the situation, until now. The Campania had sunk, taking with it tens of hundreds of thousands of both the living and the dead, ...but he and his master had escaped. He had staved off another attack, running himself ragged until he'd... he'd... he'd ended up here?

( ooc | Cut for a bit of blood. Sebastian is fresh off the Campania and still somewhat hurt. He's confused and all that, but feel free to pester him! Or feel free to help him a la Misery, dohoho, for some event related adoration and ❛molestation❜. )

[WV is out running errands today, but he is PREPARED.]

[armed with his wooden practice sword, he's ducking and weaving to the best of his ability, occasionally whipping behind a bush or tree trunk when he sees one of those little robots approaching in the distance. He is wearing knee pads and elbow pads, as well, to prevent any injuries from daring rolls behind cover.]

[if he sees any innocent passers-by, they can expect to be reprimanded sternly for being out in the open on such a perilous day!]

[OOC: smooches of all sorts are welcome! Or just conversations, or just a quick peck on the forehead to ESCAPE. But really, why your character wouldn't want to smooch such a fine, fine example of heroic carapacian manliness is utterly beyond me.]
The 154th Day
13 February 2012 at 02:28 pm
Good morning, inmates. It is the 154th day of the third generation.

Inmates Miwako Sakurada, Tim Drake, and Raistlin Majere, the items you requested are available for pickup at the entrance to the shelter in Sector 0.

((ooc: Although Acumen is unaware of this, THERE WILL ALSO BE A MISTLETOE BOT EVENT TODAY. Click that link for details, and have fun!))

[ today in the park area of sector 4, one can find a certain redheaded witch who is currently figuring out that there's a cap to her magic. and she doesn't like it. ]

What? I can't- But that's not even a big spell!

[ oookay trying something new, then. she tries a barrier-

nope, nosebleed. she stops as her head starts spinning and she falls to the grass below her. ]

Can I not do anything here?

[ determined to figure out if it's ALL of her magic still or just part of it, she tries levitation. oh, well, that works, for all the good it'll do her. she just keeps sitting there, face turned down in what could pass as a sulk. this bites.

eventually, she turns on the voice feed. ]
Has anyone else had trouble with their natural powers here? Even after the ball-and-chain thing?

[ His own hand reaches up, fingers lightly stroking the cloth patch that had affixed itself where his right eye should be. A momentary look of irritation and a furrow to his brow appears but he soon dismisses it, lowering his hand as he does. With a single breath, he considers every bit of information rather abruptly force fed to him before he finally glances at the device he has.

So it's come to this. While he had been careful in covering his tracks, only leaving clues obvious to his beloved, it seemed the law came for everyone. No matter how twisted its sense of justice was. However, it doesn't surprise him. It would have taken an extraordinarily sophisticated system to have captured him. So much more to have been able to tend to his burns (minor stings now, not so much that it bothered him) and seal him off.

But there was still a trickle of power remaining.
One tiny string he could pull that seemed so familiar. Connected to a certain... doll.

Wonderful. A small message drifts through the ether in hopes to hit a particular blond shinigami. Just two words. Simple and in a familiar voice to Hisoka's mind: Hello, boy.

But there would be time for a proper hello. For know, the matter at hand. ]

Incarceration. Quite the interesting situation I seem to have landed myself in.

[ A pause as he considers what else to say. But the thoughtfulness is replaced by a rather small smile. ]

I suppose it would be only proper to introduce myself to my fellow inmates. I am Kazutaka Muraki, a doctor by profession from where I was taken from specializing in cardiology and pediatrics.

Perhaps Acumen has a twisted sense of justice to bring a man such as myself to prison.
The 153rd Day
06 February 2012 at 06:18 pm
Good morning, inmates. It is the 153rd day of the third generation. More inmates will be integrated into the facility today, so please be aware of this disruption as you go about your day.

The weather today will continue to be cool but mild.

Inmate Claire Bennet, the construction of the bakery is now complete. You may begin to use its facilities.

[Raistlin appears on the video, looking like usual without much emotion attached to his features. He studies the scene before him carefully, as if he's thinking about something important, then turns to the screen and speaks in a soft voice.]

I've been informed that there is a wizard named Billy Kaplan here.

Has anyone here heard of him?
[Action | Mythology Class]
24 January 2012 at 01:49 pm
[It's Day 151 in Marina, and for Kurama and the inmates who've chosen to sample the Mythology course, it's the first day of class. The door to the classroom is open a little early, to give students plenty of time to find a seat and get comfortable, or to speak with the instructor before class if so inclined. The chairs have been arranged in a circle to allow for free flow of discussion. This class session is a meet-and-greet, not a lecture. Kurama stands off to one side so that his presence will hopefully not have too much impact on where the students sit, and he can readily be engaged in private conversation.

Once all of the students have arrived, Kurama takes a seat in the circle between two of them and offers the group a welcoming smile.]

Thank you for coming. I hope you've all had the opportunity to go over the course description and to hear the plans for today's session. As a quick reminder, this is the Mythology course, so if you were expecting something else, check your schedule, though I do encourage you to stay. You might have some fun. [His tone is on the comfortable edge of teasing, meant to help put the students at ease. First days can be nerve-wracking, he knows.]

Today, I'd like us all to get to know each other. We'll go around the circle and share names--there's no need for any honorifics or titles here, unless you prefer to use them--and if you have a folktale or legend you'd like to share from your world, please do. I'll get us started. My name is Kurama. That also happens to be the name of a mountain outside of Kyoto, Japan. There is an old story that claims the mountain is home to the ruler of the tengu, a powerful type of youkai, or demon, who are sometimes worshiped as gods. He is believed to have taught one of Japan's greatest warriors the art of swordsmanship more than eight hundred years ago.

[Kurama keeps his telling of the tengu of the mountain with which he shares his name brief. He wants his students to have plenty of time to share stories of their own, and after entertaining questions, moves the discussion around the circle.

After class, students are welcome to linger to chat with each other, or to bring any questions to Kurama they'd like to have answered before they leave.]

As a reminder, the first meeting of the Mythology course will be held tomorrow. We are meeting in Classroom 7 at the Education Center in Sector 2. Our first day will be a chance for everyone to get their feet wet, so to speak. I'll open the floor to students who wish to share some of their favorite folklore or legends from their home realities. I won't require that everyone share a tale, but discussion of the stories will be encouraged. This will be a chance for all of us to get to know one another before beginning more focused studies.

[ooc: The course information is available here. I'm not sure yet if I'll make a post for the class meeting itself, but if there's a strong desire for one, and the mods approve, I'd be happy to make that post next week, or if next week won't work, then at a more appropriate date, with back-dating as needed.]

[The feed opens up with a view of the blue teen. He sits in silence, staring at the comm as if staring through your soul, it's nothing short of unnerving and coldly calculating. He takes a casual drag off of a cigarette and it's plain to see on his face he hasn't slept much, if at all. But he seems relaxed at least. After a few uncomfortable moments he speaks up.]

I'm bored. Humor me.

If you were going to be executed tomorrow, what would you do? Ya know, your last few hours alive before Acumen puts you down like a dog.

[A pause, casting his eyes off in thought, or maybe he's waiting for you? The cigarette disappears from view as he breathes out a lungful of smoke.]

I know one thing's for sure, I'd kill myself first. Like hell I'd give them the satisfaction of taking my life. [It wasn't really answering his own question, more musing to himself.]

Hey, Helix. I'm gonna go ahead an' put yer stuff in th'bedroom, okay? [ That would be Aidan suddenly walking into the room. Helix's eyes widen slightly, shoulders tensing as if he's been caught doing something he shouldn't. There's some fumbling with the device...]

Shi--! Aida--[And he shuts the feed off abruptly.]
12 January 2012 at 09:33 pm
Good afternoon, Marina! It's been a few days since I've spoken to you all like this, hasn't it? I think the last time was on Halloween when the candy turned me into a diamond! [Which he still kind of thinks was a tiny bit awesome.]

It seems that Haruhi and Ranka both went home already. It's very lucky that they got to go home together so that they don't have to be alone. I'm sure that they're a lot happier being at home than they would have been here so I'm not really upset, but I wish they would have stayed for a little longer. Haruhi taught me how to make sugar cookies and I've been practicing a lot since then so that I could impress her with my skills! It would have also been nice to talk to Ranka since we got off on the wrong foot when he first got here. [Smiling through all of this, as usual, despite the fact that he is upset by their disappearance. There's no reason to make that known to everyone.]

Since they aren't here I have a lot of extra cookies so if anyone wants to try them you can come over! I don't think I have enough for everyone, but I wouldn't mind making more if I have to! It's no wonder commoners like cooking so much, it's a lot of fun! Maybe after this I can find even more recipes and try to make even more things!

Everyone who arrived yesterday are especially invited! I know that suddenly finding yourself here can be very stressful and cookies are always good for cheering people up so this might be very nice! [And suddenly his smile goes away and is replaced with a thoughtful look.] Ah, but there are cookies in the welcome basket aren't there? I guess this would be a lot of cookies to add to those... [But his smile is back right after that.]

[And one last thing before he ends the feed.] Everyone who comes over can meet my parrot, too! He's very loud and likes to sing, but he's also very friendly and I think a lot of people will like him!
07 January 2012 at 12:54 am
I've heard a couple of new people around, so I thought I'd make myself known. Hey guys! I'm Gino Weinberg. And I'm offering my help to everyone, well actually, all the new Marinarians. [Yup, he's borrowing the term Yuuki coined!]

What can this guy do for me? You might be asking. Well, I can't get that chain off your foot and I can't get you back home, but I can help you with all those pesky chores you're no doubt doing right this moment. I'm a great hand at laundry. Just ask Kallen and Suzaku! And I'm pretty good at gardening too. So just give me a call if you need me! I'll be pretty much available all day. And the days after.

[He gives a wave and shuts off the camera. You can find him in the laundry room! Or - wherever the robots are taking you to do chores!]
04 January 2012 at 08:30 pm
So, we're starting with the psychological torture first? Different. Cute, even. I wasn't even sure you bothered with that down here.

[calm, confident, with only a slight quirk of an eyebrow to show for her exasperation. going to Hell, getting arrested -- such a drag, right? and she's certainly not hoarse and red-eyed from crying. she made damn sure of that before even touching the camera. even if she has no idea what's going on, she can still save face.

if her smile's a little on edge, you'll have to forgive her, but she's expecting this cosy little place to disappear in a puff of black smoke any second now.

Well then, if we're to communicate, then I suppose introductions are in order. You can call me Bela. And yourselves? [thin-lipped smile.] Come on, I'm guessing the idea is that we all bond over our damned souls now, yeah? Then after we've swapped all friendship bracelets, we can start flaying each other alive. If we're lucky, it might even be fun by that point.
03 January 2012 at 11:16 pm
[The transmission starts, light dim and musty like the books lining the walls behind the young man that appears on the screen. He seems confused, nervous even, eyes darting from one end of the room to the other and tongue flicking out every so often to lick at his lips. A nervous tic, perhaps, just like his voice grows more rapid with every sentence, pronunciation remaining surprisingly clear despite his fervor.

The situation is familiar. He's trained for this. He's been here before and although he doesn't know who he's talking to, he's talking to someone. Keeping an open feed gives him a greater chance of someone hearing him than not talking at all, and so he talks. Someone will hear him.]

Acumen. First used in the 1530's, the word stems from the latin acuere, to sharpen, hence giving it the meaning of sharpness and in extent shrewdness, keen insight. Another synonym is "the ability to judge well" which alludes that the person using this word as their moniker believes themselves to be the ultimate judge. This in turn points to some sort of God complex with the creator of this AI, although not your typical narcissistic personality disorder - by using the construct as his or her spokesperson the individual behind it can remain hidden much like the Wizard behind the curtain.

And just like in that story the suspect may be feeling inadequate and insecure about him or herself, thus hiding behind a construct in order to keep their appearance flawless - it's the only way they can act as an absolute judge without being hindered by their humanity. A similar logic lies behind the hoods of executioners in the past - by making them virtually faceless the guilt of taking another persons life or in this case their freedom can be absolved into a disembodied concept of justice…

[Pause. Brows furrowed in thought he worries at his bottom lip. This isn't helping. He's not even sure who he's talking to, to be perfectly honest, but that has never stopped him before and if anything doing the math may help clear his head.]

One point six zero nine kilometers under the surface… that translates to roughly a mile. Pressure equals depth times fifteen divided by thirty-three… so at 5280 feet that would result in a pressure of 2400 psi which in turn equates to over a ton per square inch. Right now the limits for commercial diving is roughly at 500 feet, one tenth of the assumed depth we're at now…

[This would be a good time for someone to interrupt. He'll go on forever if you don't.]

[OOC He's restrained and as such bots will take him away to the salt mines work before long! I'd also really appreciate if those interested could fill in this PERMISSIONS POST so we can get some profiling done here.]
03 January 2012 at 01:35 pm
And then Monopoly wasn't the only hoarder with a "Go Directly to Jail" card. Good to know.

[This teenage boy looks like he went five rounds with a patch of dirt. And lost. Battered appearance aside, he seems ready to go for a sixth round. The way he's fidgeting is also a dead giveaway of something being up and it also doesn't help that he's in prison. Tommy and prison? That didn't go so well the last time.]

I went through the entire place twice and what did I find? No exit in sight, that's what. Big surprise there. Anyone thinking third time's the charm? 'Cause at this point, I'm willing to try anything. I'll even bring down a building or two if it means grabbing the warden's attention.

[Normally cheeky Tommy isn't in the mood to fool around right now. Which is saying something. With his general dislike of prisons and the aftermath of Doom's attack, he seriously needed out.]
The 148th Day
02 January 2012 at 01:41 pm
Good morning, inmates. It is the 148th day of the third generation. More inmates will be integrated into the facility today, so please be aware of this disruption as you go about your day.

The unexpected snow event has been completely dealt with and, as some of you may have noticed, the shelter has been unsealed.
[You may notice that the ground is still wet, and there will be bots here and there using small devices to dry the ground.] Inmates should now feel free to return to their normal places of residence.

Inmate Setsuna Seiei, the item you requested is available for pick up at the entrance to the shelter in Sector 0.

((ooc: The kiosk has also been re-enabled!))
