Another note/welcome

Due to [info]squeaky's last post in [info]announcements telling us that GreatestJournal users are being directed to create new accounts here because of server strain there, I'm going to open the asylum up to talking about GJ issues as well. I expect that it will still mostly be about LJ simply because the problems going on there are just so insane and there's already a huge base of us from there, but GJ's technical problems are becoming increasingly overwhelming.

So, if you're coming over from GJ, welcome to our corner of the internet. If you have any questions or problems feel free to comment or email me and I'll do what I can to get you sorted out. Remember to use the tags list when you post, and I'll just go and add some for GJ now.

Comments

I'm glad I only have about 100 posts over on GJ. I have to figure out how to get them, and the comments, just in case. Do we have links to things like that? I saw them for LJ but didn't want to grab my journal there, so didn't pay attention.
Here you go!

I'm not sure if LJAchive allows you to use a different domain (eg: fr lj. to gj.), but afaik LJ-sec will be able to repost your GJ entries. Unfortunately, I don't think it does comments, mood etc.
Vox will also import GJ entries (same as LJ entries), but no comments. Some people are setting up a Vox as an additional backup, but of course, the comments are what MAKE an online journal. If all we wanted was our own posts, we could write them in a hard-copy journal and stick them in a desk drawer!
I know, I know. LJArchive does backup comments, to your HD.

I think the biggest hurdle to importing comments is that you can't import friends as well.
I do have a backup of my LJ (including secondary accounts) saved with LJArchive, and I will be able to hang on to the comments that way. There are fewer comments at GJ, so there is less to lose there, but it's still annoying.
...
Plus people need to remember that Vox is still owned by Six Apart... although there is a method of replying to comments there, it's just not the same hierarchical structure as LJ's.
LJArchive and LJSec both work for GJ. Way back when, I got a GJ, but after I learned about IJ this summer, I fully switched over here and haven't regretted it yet.
