GJ 07 revisited?

It seems that as of this entry, ij is having little or no notifications, the icons are all down, the site is slowly loading up.

Sound familiar?

Update on GJ: Good News and Bad News

Well appearently greatestjournal is back up and running.

So the good news if anyone wants old entires or icons you can get them.

Bad News is that you only have two weeks.

When I tried to test comment, of course I couldn't do it BUT I was redirected to a page and got the following message:

Server no longer maintained and will be closed Jan 30 2009 - Please use LiveJournal or ljarchive

So if you want icons from communities such as rpg_icons, if you have old rp sls you wanna save, or anything else you wanna save from that site YOU HAVE TWO WEEKS SO DO IT NOW.

It finally happened. lol

Does anyone remember GreatestJournal? Well it's finally down. I was on it yesterday and it was working fine so it must of happened within the last 24 hours.

What I keep on getting is:

403 Denied
GJ is currently down - Please go to LiveJournal

Old users: you can backup all entries and comment with ljarchive

As of January 6, 2009, after a year of issues, GreatestJournal is finally dead. Oh well.

Comments @ GreatestJounal no longer working?

Every once in a while I like to check up on GJ and make a big "BACK UP YOUR JOURNAL! FLEE NOW, WHILE YOU STILL CAN!" comment to the last ~news post. This morning when I went there I got this when I clicked the "comment" link:

This happening for anyone else?

How to Archive and Repost Journal entries (windows)

What with GJ sinking fast, these instructions needed to be posted somewhere public and stable so people can have a reference on hand as they perform backups. I've also got a roundup of every tool and tutorial I could find here at my journal.

THIS IS NOT BY ME. This is the tutorial from the Official Issues Community on GJ. I asked and recieved permission to repost it elsewhere.

LJ-SEC: (ORIGINALLY POSTED BY [info]gynee at Greatestjournal on the Official Issues Community)

There are three different tutorials below:

1) Archiving/Backing up your journal entries and comments to your computer.
2) Exporting your journal entries and entering them to your new journal site.
3) A link to the tutorial for migrating communities.

GJ is back up

http://news.greatestjournal.com/

specifically - http://www.greatestjournal.com/community/news/100625.html

Main DB died :( [Jan. 13th, 2008|04:11 pm]

system
There was a complete hard drive failure today in the main DB server - site now running on backup DB.

as mentioned earlier:
We recommend http://InsaneJournal.com with brand new servers and highly motivated admin and mods.

You can alwas export current Journals and Comments here:

http://www.greatestjournal.com/export.bml

Of course, you click "120 comments" and POOF, the DB is not available there.

Honestly, i am rather surprised they fixed it.

Given their last news post I think this may just be a lie

Semagic choked trying to cross-post my last entry to GJ, so I visited the site (which I rarely do because this has been my primary). Get an error saying :

"Sorry

We're currently working on something. The site will be back up shortly."

Don't know whether they are actually trying to fix something (like the not-staying-logged-in issue), but I somehow doubt it.

Logging in no longer works for GJ. It might be a server glitch, but part of me wonders if system didn't just say 'fuckit' and turn it off altogether. Maybe that's what he meant by ASIS.

(Details: you can log in but if you refresh you're logged out)

eta I tried posting a comment to the news post (by inputing my un/pw right before hitting post) and got errors galore. Now it's showing my comments sans text. (http://www.greatestjournal.com/community/news/100462.html?page=29#comments)

More GJ drama...

One of GJ's Staff has left the building.

Thank you, to my pal crystalra1ndr0p, for pointing me to this.

Edit: My apologies if this has been posted before. I read things sporadically because I work overnights and don't always check previous entries. If I annoyed anyone by this post (and I get the feeling I did by the comments alone), then I deeply apologize. It was not my intention.

cdenise, one of the former GJ admins has just left the site as of last night.

You know it's getting pretty damn bad when admins start to leave.

Greatestjournal blunders yet again

Oh dear god. Just when you thought GJ has reached the absolute bottom, they went down even further.

The icon maximum limit has reached 5. I tested this myself. If you value your gj icons, don't try to edit them.

Archiving & Transferring Entries from LJ/GJ...

Hey everyone. :) I was wondering if maybe I could get some help. I'm pretty sure this isn't where I need to go for this, but considering I'm new to IJ, I'm not sure where to address the issue. After reading your entries/comments, there seem to be several people that have gone through this process - so I'm hoping one of you can help.

I am currently a user of LJ & GJ both... and after dealing with all the nonsense on both sites, I'm just ready to start elsewhere. When GJ suggested IJ, I created one immediately. However, I'm having a slight bit of a problem trying to back up my previous entries on the other sites. I want to back up my entries to my hard drive & then transfer them over to IJ.

I am using LJARCHIVE.. but for some reason it won't let me connect to either of their servers to obtain my journal entries. It just keeps telling me that the server has stopped responding - when I'm connected just fine for everything else. Has anyone had this problem and know how to fix it? Or does anyone know of any other software that is used for the same purpose?

I would really like to start using my IJ, but I'm trying to wait until I've transferred the older entries before I do. Can someone help me? Please & thanks bunches!!!

EDIT: Apparently, my .NET FRAMEWORK wasn't up to date...even though I had just downloaded what I thought was the lastest version. I'm currently downloading/installing the updates from Microsoft Updates to that to see if that solves the problem. I'll keep you updated.. as soon as these finish. Thanks for all your help! :)

GJ: What Is Going On?

During Strikethrough (#2) this last summer, one of the options that I looked into (but was non-plussed about) was GreatestJournal. The thing that discouraged me from wanting to jump over to them was the fact that GJ didnt seem like it was very good in the technical aspects of things. Sure it had features that I would of had to pay to have if I stuck with LJ, but alot of glitches, slow access speed, and downtime was happening there. I decided that if they were that buggy then, GJ would be REALLY BUGGY when more LJ people ran there for shelter.

I see that GJ had to refer people to this site due to overload (which would confirm the logic in the previous sentence). Now Im reading more about GJ admin being lax about notifying current customers regarding downtime, glitches and services that they have had to disable to handle the overwhelming flow of traffic. I know that with LJ that really pissed me off (the not telling you and letting you find out for yourself part).

Anyone have any other information about GJ and what is going on there?

[info]vampiress_diva

greatestjournal's gone screwed up again. For those of you who still has journals there DO NOT try to upload icons for you will lose all but ten of them. Plus they once again locked out new journals.

Icon limit and journal creation reinstated at GJ.

Yet still no communication with the GJdebacle this weekend. Shocker.

Re: GreatestJournal Refugees...

I noticed we have 2 (TWO) asylums for GJers to find each other: [info]findgjers and [info]gjmeetup. The first was created on 12/09, the second on 12/10.

None of them has GJ or GreatestJournal listed as an interest -- actually, there are no listed interests at all. One of the maintainers set up a welcome post, so I left a comment. The other, I don't know.

Again, please don't forget to list relevant interests, so users are able to find you via the interest search. Not only is it a great help for networking, it would also avoid redundancy.

To all the GJ RolePlayers: IJ STILL HAS COMMENT ROT. This means your comments might disappear without notice. (Eta: I don't mean the problem of comments sometimes not showing up right after you posted them; this can be solved simply by commenting again: both comments show up, delete the redundant one. What I mean is that weeks or months after posting, comments or whole comment threads are gone.)

It won't be fixed until the next code update goes live. I've written about this before ("Known Site Issues"). I know it sucks; at the moment there's always at least one downside no matter which journaling service you choose. :(

--------

Dear [info]07refugees mod (*waves @ [info]keieeeye*): Would it be possible to update the profile page, and perhaps create a sticky post on top of the page (some journal styles, e.g. Unearthed, allow for that) with the most important rules, necessary information, and asylum links? (I'll gladly help if needed.)

[info]vampiress_diva

I was once known as [info]vampiress_diva @ gj. Has anyone notice the URL is not working now? I think gj is dead. Oh well.

Further icon cuts

GreatestJournal users: Whatever you do, don't go to the Edit Icons page on GJ. They've cut the icon slots to 10.

http://www.greatestjournal.com/users/karma_apple/28380.html has a screen shot.
