A page from Catwoman Secret Files and Origins
ETA: I just realized part of this has already been posted.
You can read it here, where people already answered many questions that came up. I didn't think there was a chance someone had posted it already...that'll teach me to assume.

So I was reading some posts about Batman and Catwoman here, which reminded me how much I like Selina. Then I found [info]espanolbot 's posts on Ed Brubaker's Catwoman, which reminded me how awesome they were. Anyway, I don't have more Catwoman, but I do have this short bit from The Comics Journal #263 that I think everyone will appreciate.

Martial Arts Week: Kung Fu Nomenclature (with the Immortal Iron Fist)
First post after finally migrating to the new community.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

One of the best martial arts book on the market right now is Marvel's Immortal Iron Fist. Heavily inspired by classic Wuxia films and literature, this book has brought back into the mainstream one of my favorite tropes of martial arts fiction: crazy names for combat forms.

Martial Arts Week: Daredevil vs. Lady B

In honour of Martial Arts Week, let's take a look at one of my favourite Ed Brubaker-written fight scenes, from Daredevil #113, as Daredevil comes fist to fist with Lady Bullseye for the first time.

Beacons in the Darkness
As an avid Batman fan, I do think that there are several reasons why the Bat-verse stands so high among readers and is a source for so many great stories, and while the most important reason is up to everyone's own opinion, I think that it is hard to argue that one of the most important reasons isn't the supporting cast, their relationships with each other and the very world they inhabit. They all share a depth and complexity that is unfortunately relatively rare in such abundance in comic books and perhaps even more importantly, they can all be wrong in something. Especially Batman, as he has often been. They are flawed individuals, who just struggle to overcome those flaws and just do the right thing, not always succeeding, and to me makes them so relatable and even more heroic to me.

Psycho Loves Jerkass: Laura and Julian (Part III): A Night on the Town

Our series hits Part III, easily the longest segment, covering the "Mercury Rising" storyarc that ran from New X-Men #33-36. Laura and Julian take a break from saving each other (though they end up doing that too) to save someone else, and Julian tries to get her to go cold-turkey on killing bad guys. And Emma finally directs her righteous bitchiness at an wholly appropriate target.

Oh, and Laura has clearly been sitting in on Marvel's creator summits, enabling her to predict the future.

Mind rape?

While they didn't create the term, TV Tropes defines "Mind Rape" as when "a character is attacked by a villain in the most painful non-physical way possible. Their mind and soul are assaulted with painful, horrifying visions and memories, and broken until they're powerless and numb, but not dead, although afterwards they may wish they were. Nothing sexual occurs, but everything else is there to resemble a rape - violation, helplessness, and the poisoning of what could otherwise be a source of joy."

However I've seen a lot of people throw the term around whenever a character gets their mind read without their permission, as if it's just as bad (or almost as bad) as the act of sexual assault itself.
