I'm with Siryn. ONLY Uncle Ben stays dead!

I believe Jean DeWolff is also still dead.

The original Kraven has yet to come back too.

I'm still kind of bitter about that, too. I didn't realize how potentially awesome a character she was until years after she'd died.

At least they killed her again in the Ultimate universe.

Bendis.

He's a COMMplicated man, and no one unnerSTANNs him but his woman...

...and he keeps killing them...

Now that was a waste. She had so much potential when she was revealed to be working for the Kingpin and then she gets killed in her next one-issue appearance.

No one's going to resurrect her, either - at least, not while Quesada's still in charge. She smokes, y'know. Bad example to the kiddies and all that. Faugh.

You couldn't resurrect her anyway without a pretty significant linewide retcon, of the sort Marvel doesn't traditionally tend to do. She's a police detective who was shot by a mundane assassin, with her bloody corpse displayed on-panel. There's nothing there to hang a retcon or resurrection plot on, and doing so would invalidate what's admittedly a pretty awesome and classic Spider-Man story.

It wouldn't necessarily invalidate it. The pain and grief and so forth at her death would still be real, even if her death wasn't. The story is still powerful, even if there's a 'P.S' added afterwards.

It's a few pages out of a really dense limited series, so that's completely understandable.

I know no one stays dead in comics, but I do worry about Sean - he's an older bloke and probably not appreciated in the current Brand New Day Everything Must Be Young And Hip Marvel Universe.

And yet, inexplicably, Nick Fury has a huge role in it, and he's looking older than usual.

This is the main reason why I absolutely despise Vulcan and will never ever ever ever EVER like him. Not that anything ELSE he's ever done has made him likable, but, you know...

And this is why I hated Deadly Genesis. I couldn't really care about the second Genesis team, but damn, Banshee? Why did it have to be you?

Well, I think we can safely say he's dead - for the moment, at least. Has anyone posted Siryn's reactions to this yet? I hear there's some pretty cool moments there.

Was it ever made clear why Vulcan wanted Banshee dead? Sean was on his way to give the X-Men the very information that Vulcan wanted them to find out, and which he tells them himself a few issues later.

...still do not understand why he could not have moved a few feet up or down and avoided being hit?

Lame-ass death as a plot device.

He was trying to stop the two planes from hitting.

...which involves putting his very-much-not-invulnerable body directly between two planes? His powers have never ever worked that way.

At a guess, if he's attempting to blast the Blackbird to most effect he needs to be right in front of it so he blasts it directly.

If there was a margin of error he would blast it from above, but there's not. He needs maximum force directed straight at the jet, and that means he needed to be where he was.

[info]angelophile

Well, technically, you'd think he'd aim at one of the engines or wings to knock the flight path.

[info]icon_uk

Perhaps, but the plane has a lot of momentum which would keep it going in the direction it is, not much room to change course and almost no time to do ANYTHING. Slowing it down would be most effective in the time allowed and, again, that would be best achieved by maximum force being applied to it's front.

I admire your attempt to rationalize it for us, I really do.

But you need to accept this was just editorially mandated character assasination, and the writer probably just did the best they could to give him a 'heroic' death without being able to pull up a villain for him to fight.

It... it hurts I know ;-;
