Chuck Norris vs. Mr. T (CLASH OF THE TITANS!) Greetings True Believers! I had several Borders coupons this weekend so I bought some books. One was a great bio of Stalin. After that serious bit of reading, I decided I needed something juvenile. So I picked up "Chuck Norris vs. Mr. T" and it is divine! Super-silly fun and I wanted to post some of the best art pages.
Enjoy bits like "Rather than take showers, Chuck Norris rides a nine-foot grizzly bear through a car wash." and "Mr. T once said, "There is no I in team, but there us a T! Fool!!" This was at a motivational speaking conference and was the entirety of his lecture."

Star Wars: Rogue Squadron: Family Ties Not anything from the main plot of the issue, or even Fel's entrance into Rogue Squadron. I love that main plot, but this has very little to do with it. The first three pages, posted here, are the funeral service. Here's the cover art; click here for full.

Promethea 12: A history of humanity Promethea 12 was something of a watershed moment for the series. Previously, the series had been very well-written, with excellent art, but it was still "just" your standard superheroics. This issue is when we first realized that it was going to be something more.

Captain Marvel's favorite part of a woman How inexplicable. This is from WHIZ COMICS# 51 in 1944. Odd little throw-away moments like this are one of the reasons why I love Golden Age comics. Marvel has been asked to judge a beauty contest, but why he's doing that with the tape measure is not explained.

The question may come up in conversation, "what is the sexiest part of a woman?" or "what is your favorite part?" Guys, as you value your life, immediately say, "Her mind, of course." Eyes or smile are answers you might also get away with. But if you say, "Her forearm and it should ideally be shorter than 29 inches," everyone will draw away from you and you will receive puzzled looks for awhile.

Morbius! In this month's request thread I asked if Morbius, The LIVING VAMPIRE!, ever got a series that was good.
I wanted to know because in the 90s animated series, Morbius was awesome and disgusting (and that made him more awesome) - but whenever I dipped into his comics they were.. well frankly they were dull and forgettable. I read one of them a week ago and I already have very little idea of what happened.
And an Anonymous answered! And lo, it was good.
By which I mean nuts.
Here are a couple of links, because shit, I haven't posted anything on a journal for forever and I can't remember how.
Thanks mysterious benefactor!

Storming Paradise Greetings True Believers! Memorial Day had me thinking about one of my favorite series right now. Wildstorm's "Storming Paradise." It's a historical "What-If?" drama. The premise is that the atomic bomb test was a disaster and the Allies had to go through with the invasion of Japan in order to end WWII. It's great because of the level of the what if. The decision to use the atom bomb is still debated today. Was it necessary? Was it justified? What about the other options? (Personally I think it was the best card in a bad hand and the other options were far worse.)

This series explores one of those options. The invasion of Japan and how it might have played out. It got me thinking, would the atomic bombing of Japan have played out the same way in the Marvel or DC universe?
My question to my fellow S_Der's is this: How would the presence of super-powered beings, magic, aliens, etc. affected this moment in history? Would it have been the same? Would things have been different? Can this question be answered? ( Read more... )
