When Matt met Luke: Marvel Knights #11
So, last time I was here I posted some pages from the 2000 series Marvel Knights, a fun little exercise into street level team-building, featuring Daredevil assembling a team to take down the Punisher and for about fifteen issues, taking on various threats of a superpowered kind. The team was originally just Daredevil, Black Widow, Shang-Chi and Dagger (from Cloak and Dagger), but the group got an expansion in issue #5 with the inclusion of Moon Knight. The latter thought the team needed some organising (y'know, some actual being a team) and in issue #11, he brought in Luke Cage for some reinforcements.

This is a response to starwolf oakley's recent post, featuring Cage's interaction with DD in the pages of Bendis' Daredevil.

Scans not mine. Written by Chuck Dixon, drawn by Ed Barreto. 7/22.

Robin Spoiler Special, 8/2008

Woo! First post on the new S_D here at IJ! I've finally got a scanner, so expect more comics in the future! Since you guys introduced me to Tim Drake and Spoiler back in the day, I figured the Robin/Spoiler Special from August 2008 would be a good way to start.

The Importance of Being Frank: The Punisher versus Ulik
So, I saw you guys were having a Punisher week. Seeing as I've never really owned (or read) any of Frank's ongoing titles or mini's - with exception of the War Zone issue packed in with his Marvel Legends action figure - I was wondering just what I could contribute. Duh, Marvel Knights, the 15-issue mini-series that had Daredevil reluctantly teaming with and against the Punisher. From those hallowed pages, I bring you: Frank Castle, the Punisher versus Ulik the Rock Troll.

Scans (not mine) are from issue #3 of the title, 7 out of 22. Written by Chuck Dixon, pencilled by Ed Barreto.

About Babs/Dinah and Gail Simone

Funny question: On a TV Tropes example page most relevant to our interests, someone wrote that Gail Simone 'encourages' femmeslash. What interview was that?

Relatedly, a moment from Birds of Prey 21. You know the one. )

Dick meets his natural nemesis....
One of my frequent complaints about the Dixon Nightwing run was the absence of decent villains for our former Boy Wonder.

For a kid who'd grown up fighting the Joker, Two-Face, Scarecrow and Mad Hatter with Batman, and the likes of the Fearsome Five, The Brotherhood of Evil, Trigon and many others with the Titans, there were mighty slim pickings in Bludhaven.

It wasn't until Nightwing 48 that Dick finally got a supervillain of her very own And given Dick's history as the worlds most tied up superhero, wanna guess what Sylph's power was? :)

Babes, Bugs, and Banter: the tale of Babs Gordon and Ted Kord
Back at S_D 1.0, [info]mishy_dishy asked about the relationship between Babs and Ted, and since I really only need the flimsiest of excuses to post about Oracle, I put together a post to explore the (nearly) complete history of the Gordon/Kord relationship, with lots of pretty pictures. Time and the Great Disaster having come and gone, [info]gotham_girl has recently echoed that request, so I have raided the archive and unearthed it once again.

Martial Arts Week: Shitty comic, great fights

Chuck Dixon's 2004 Richard Dragon series was lousy, to be sure, but it definitely had one thing going for it. Scott McDaniel's art, while no one is accusing it of being pretty, has an energy and flow that fit the series like a glove and made every fight a joy to read.
As evidence, I bring you the climactic clash between Richard and Lady Shiva.

DC & Marvel samples
Untitled-13

Inspired by a recent back-and-forth I had with fellow Johnny Go aka “thehefner” on LJ, I've decided to take a trip down memory lane and embarrass myself in the process. For the first time and quite possibly for the last, I'm posting some of the comic book samples I created in hopes of becoming a professional cartoonist well over a decade ago. Just thinking about the process makes me cringe but in retrospect, these crude examples yield amusing results.

This is uncommon fare for s_d, but I thought it’d be amusing at the very least. Chalk it up to decade old fan art. Tons of scans of the source material behind the cut.

It's a guy thing
Someone asked for Connor Hawke scans a while back, and while I'd like to post the JLA stuff with the most likable fellow to go by the name 'Green Arrow' I haven't been able to dig it out yet. I'm disorganized. I did find something during my rummaging that I thought was worth posting though.

I think almost everyone knows how Ollie died (OMG, SPOILER!?), refusing to let Superman rip his arm off he perished when a plane exploded (well, there was a little more to it than that, but whatever). The heroes all mourn in their own ways until Guy asks something that really should have come up sooner...

Jason in Nightwing: Year One
Previous posts have already noted that there's a trend in canon retconning Jason has having been more violent, angrier and more of as street punk than he was originally depicted as in the handful of issues Collins was writing him.

One of the most blatant examples comes from Nightwing: Year One, which was published from March to May 2005 – for comparison, Under the Hood's first issue was published in February 2005, though the reveal that Red Hood was Jason was only published in August. I have no idea what the information sharing regarding Jason was at the time between editorial/writers of different title, and thus can't say if Dixon was even aware that Jason was in the process of being revived, much less if there were directives as to how depict him.

Some of these scans have already been posted in [info]tsuki_the_geek's posts of how Jason gained the Robin suit and how his first night as Robin went, but I'm reposting here for the sake of clarity. If it is offensive I'll take the scans down.

One Perfect Moment: Tim Drake
Imagine the following scenario:

You have a new girlfriend - one that you like very, very much. Unfortunately, because you are a teenage vigilante, she doesn't know your name. After one perfect night on the town, in uniform, blending with a crowd of sci-fi geeks in costumes, she tells you that she's pregnant. With another guy's kid.

You are Timothy Drake. What do you do?
