[She wants to hear from her husband first. She wants to speak to him first. Despite all her jumbled feelings, if she doesn't hear or speak to Hades before all others then she would feel all wrong.

Surely, that was a sign.

Speak to me as soon as you can. Or I will burst in during one of your classes and tackle you before all your classmates.

And then be possibly dragged out by any security but I will do it. I will.

[Lilith was not a being who was taken. She was not someone who tolerated such things and, once more, cold fury built up in her heart. It dimmed at the sight of her daughter hurrying about to get ready. They were to go see her family today. Lucille enjoyed Easter and it was a part of her that was strictly Lucille and not Lilith.

Her mother indulged her child. It was harmless for now. It would not make her weaker.

Well, that was fucking annoying. Days spent in a fucking maze, days I could have used to manage my business instead.

But it keeps repeating. It pushes onward, forward without sign of favour coming our way. Some of you believe in a God. Some of you believe in nothing but yourselves. Some of you have no idea of what all this is. What I want to know is why we've all been grouped together now instead of a previous life. Because I know in my previous lives I went through a normal life. As normal as a mortal's can be.

There have to be answers that can be found.

Bring back Zurvan. At least there, a man could die in peace.

[There were plenty of things in life where it was just easier to turn the other cheek. However, there was a truth coming to the surface that he just couldn't ignore anymore. He had seen many unexplainable things happen in the past few months. Or, well, at least events with an explanation he was all too happy to shrug off as too bizarre to be true. The more he heard and lived through, the more he had tried to deny everything. And the keyword there was certainly tried. As much as he didn't want to believe it he just couldn't get it out of his head. The reasons as to why it was happening to him and why both he and his roommate were involved were right there. His conversations with others were becoming much too uncanny for him not to notice it. The truth was finally there in the back of his mind. It was easy enough to deny it for awhile and let it sink in in due time.

The only thing that changed was another truth that he had picked up on within the past two weeks. He had been quietly suspicious as there was just something he could recognize. It was vague, but it was there. Especially after a conversation from the past week. And eventually he remembered the scent as well. He couldn't stand it.

There was a breakfast full of passive aggressive remarks and then, being more certain of the way things were, Altan shoved his roommate into the hallway storage closet and locked the door. He finished his toast, packed a few things, grabbed the cat, knocked over the small defenseless potted plant that Donovan had brought home, spat in the milk, and left.

He couldn't stay there.]

[Remembering a time when waking up in his own bed wasn't an unexpected occurrence, Donovan had spent most of his morning contemplative and distracted. Nearly burning the toast and then spilling the orange juice across the counter while staring blankly out the kitchen window at the city that hadn't noticeably changed at all during his brief absence, Donovan had far more on his mind to silently worry about.

During breakfast, his roommate's bad mood wasn't unusual enough to be immediately concerning, attributing the higher level of one-sided tension between them to the events over the last week that they both were avoiding bringing up. They hadn't ran into each other in the maze, but they both were there, and Donovan had an uncomfortable feeling that Altan knew something important that he wasn't sharing.

Conversations with Death and Bastet stirred thoughts that seemed better left untouched. Maybe he wasn't supposed to know. Maybe things would go back to normal again if he ignored it, or at least until they were involuntarily yanked into another messy situation that he had yet to understand.

But after being forcibly dragged from his chair and locked into the cramped closet for reasons that weren't given, Donovan quickly realized that the brief charade of normalcy that morning was unfortunately short-lived. At first he waited patiently for his roommate to return with (or even without) an explanation, but then the apartment was far too quiet and it was obvious after a few hours and a dozen ignored text messages and declined calls that Altan had no intention of letting him out any time soon. And that's when the panic began to set in, a claustrophobia that he was never aware of having, and he had to get out.  Now.]

I am actually looking forward to class again and anything that doesn't result in broken nails and broken bones.

Tristan, it's been too long. May we meet?

And Uriel, too. I miss my brother and my parents are away traveling (yet again). I'm afraid you're the only family I have in this city.

Mordred. Mordred, are you well? Will you come see me?

And Helen. I want to go for a manicure. Scratch that. I want a full spa weekend. Can you make some time?

And everyone, everyone. It's so nice to have pavements beneath my feet again.

And after everything that's happened over the past few months, this is somehow the least surprising of all. My divorce came through this morning. I didn't contest it.

There'll be a further custody hearing this month but, to be honest, I can't contest that, either. It's not fair to drag two children into this mess of a life I lead.

I hope you all have an enjoyable Easter, if you celebrate it at this time (I shall follow in a week) but, for now, it's back unto the breach. Being on call is never quiet but at least I can do some good, I guess.

The lightness of her New York apartment unsettles her as she rises. She half-expects monsters to come creeping out of the silence. Monsters in the form of children she'd never had, eyes dark with the sting of betrayal. She'd betrayed them somehow, hadn't she? Why else would they be so battered, skinny and uncared for?

It takes a few steadying breaths to remind herself that these children are figments of her imagination. Merely machinations from the
tender hands of that woman.

Her anger could not have been put into words, but she rallies herself into working order with the mundane routine of her typical workday. Soon enough her cheeks are dry, her expression drawn taut in forced normalcy. However, she does not forget that she owes her life to Death (as she always has) and types in a quick filter as her lunch break begins.

Is your ... brother all right?
