Cirque Nocturne: Messages

I've found a dress to wear to one of the many balls, now I simply need to figure out which one/s I'm attending, and who, if anyone, might accompany me. Such a busy social bee I am.

I’ve noticed many of us plan on attending multiple events this week. Rather than spend earnings on several sets of formal wear with the holidays coming up, who would be interested in pooling dresses or suits and sharing as size constraints allow? I’m sure the dress shops in Vienna are thrilled that they’re being almost singlehandedly kept afloat by Cirque employees, but we’ll have plenty of needier economies to stimulate elsewhere and this dress buying spree is absurd. I’ll arrange a rack in the costuming tent if there’s interest.

1) Don't make it more complicated. Just tell her you like her. Don’t make her play a game of Clue.
2) No. Glass heels are a horrible idea. Don’t bother the costumers.
3) It’s “Guten abend” to say good night. “Gute nacht,” is for someone you live with, or you're sleeping with. Don’t say this casually, it’s the German equivalent of singing the hook from Lady Marmalade at someone you’ve just met. If you must, make sure the ‘cht’ sound is soft. A hard ‘kht’ means “good naked.” Results vary. Use your imagination.

Vienna looks beautiful, from what I can see. I'm still not really sure about venturing out on my own. But hey, I haven't killed anyone at the restaurant yet, so that's a plus?

Hello, Cirque! I'm Winnifred, but you can call me Winny. It's five in the morning, I'm hot off a plane, and about to crash into anything resembling a bed.

But, just as a rundown, I'll be working with the horses, wowing the crowds with my trick riding. Ever seen someone do a handstand on the back of a moving horse? Yup, that'll be me. Come check it out.

I was told I should go to a tent called Flashbulb to get fitted for my costume. I really hope there's no lace, sequins, glitter, or frilly skirts involved. Just give me a black leotard and an elastic for my hair and I'll be fine, seriously.

I don't want to tax the kitchens with my dietary restrictions, so I'll be making a grocery run and cooking tomorrow night, in the local style. If anyone wants yellow curry with chickpeas, feel free to stop by my trailer. And if no one comes by, all the food waste will go in the compost bin, which I'm sure a modern circus such as this totally has!

Being awake at this time of the day shouldn't be allowed, and nor should creepy dolls or nightmares. I'm fed up of all this weirder than usual shit.

I see that some of the humans (and some of the non-humans) are looking a little shell-shocked. Deep breaths and lots of water, friends.

A Wild Hunt to celebrate my return? You shouldn't have, but I'm loving it. This will be my third and I've never been disappointed. I promise I'll make it rain blood for my friends.

But where is everyone I know? Walking back into the place in London I didn't recognise a soul. The Old Gang's taken off without me here? And where's that girl who could unhinge her jaw to swallow a whole baby? She promised me a private showing.

For a place that caters to long lived monsters, there seems to be an unhealthy turnover rate. You scaring them away, Ringmaster?

As announcement's go, I feel it is best to make one before our move rather than after. Upon tomorrow, the first night in our new location will also herald the first night of the Hunter's full moon. This moon is a special one and it is Management's wish that every employee be given the chance to agree to participate or not. Upon arrival in the new location, a Wild Hunt is to be called. We will be locked into a space of our own. The sirens, spirits and fae that call humans to their death will be released around the site and any patron that steps inside the Cirque those nights will die. This is an opportunity for our darker members to express themselves and employees that may have been on a lower diet to take in what they will. The rule of not killing or grievously harming employees still applies, but all of the rules about public displays does not. This is not public and no employees will be leaving the grounds. I ask that if you wish not to participate or if you still wish to be chained for the shift of the full moon, to leave a message here. Any children under contract with the Cirque do not have a choice and will be tended to by Baba Violetta in a specialized tent that cannot be accessed by anyone other than her and myself. if you do choose to be locked away, you will be bound to your trailer and anything you may need for those nights will be delivered by magical means.

While it is your choice to whether you participate or not, Security will still be needed to walk the grounds and make sure that no patron escapes by some miracle; if they have long dormant genes of magic that might allow them to step through the barriers.
You are to police the employees as well. They have free reign but they are not to disturb the center Cauldron in any manner or destroy our tents and props and equipment.

Tell me you're alright. Kennet said everyone had been released. And that you were possessed? Can I do anything?

Perhaps I am becoming jaded to the murders that have been occurring with our stops, despite the break for a few months - up until now. I can only think of how glad I am my brain wasn't ripped to shreds by a spirit or how I was visionless and, in fact, out of the loop on this one. It's a rare treat.

That does not mean I am not sorry for the losses or haven't been any sort of upset but there's a sort of... relief that it's a normal grief and not one of deep involvement. Color me cold if you like. I won't mind.

As certain issues are hard to keep restrained and rumours spread all too quickly, I am announcing that the spirit of Jack the Ripper, who had been possessing four individuals amongst us has been taken care of. His last intended victim was not so meek or easily taken as the others had been. Everyone has been released from my custody and no one is being fired for the action of killing the employees as they were not in control. While such an excuse is not going to be taken easily, it is understandable at this time that the Ripper spirit was hunting away from its normal grounds for an unknown reason. It is the wish of Management that everyone enjoy their day off and the festival that will be held tonight. Extra money will be put into your accounts for last minute costume purchases.

Right. So. I've been a part of this merry band for almost two years. Seen a lot of strange things in my day. But I would say that finding the words 'From Hell' scrawled on a tent wall by the V&V tent, in what looks like fucking blood, is very high on my personal strange meter.

I know a lot of y'all can see in the dark but I've got flashlights for anybody that's still leery of shadow creatures or whatever is causing the screams. Not sure if it'll do much good, but I figure it can't hurt to have a little light handy.

I'm also willing to lend out ONE lightsaber, but I'm gonna need it back by tomorrow night or else my costume won't make a lick of sense. Added bonus: it has sound effects.

Did anyone ask for the mystery cries and screams of fear? I get that it's close to Halloween and we've got to keep up appearances but this is a bit much. Where are they even coming from?

"Here, sign this contract" should have been prefaced with; "we've lost several employees this week to unsolved shadow murder." Or am I reading the board posts wrong? Too late now.

Samhain is fast approaching. I have to admit, I love autumn. Crisp air, beautiful trees, so many things to smell.

I wonder, though. How many more strange things will happen before we depart? More than our usual?
