Jason Shellen resigns from LJ

Did anyone see the latest LJ news post?

Particularly this part:

Moving On
Jason Shellen, our VP of product development, decided to resign from his position at LiveJournal, Inc. at the beginning of the week. His decision was for family and personal reasons. We wish him the best for the future.

I don't think he lasted very long!

At first I could see whining, complaining, protesting, whatevering because one hopes to influence the owners of the service. Over time, I've come to the conclusion that first SA and now SUP have a particular vision they're chasing and that I'm irrelevant to that process. As such, I see no point in complaining as it won't yield results. I'm permanently there and I'll continue to participate so long as I get utility out of my account. I'm firmly on the sideline at this point, waiting for the day until I've reached my personal limit -- or until it becomes irrelevant to me.

Until then, I'm making contingency plans. I'm trying to develop friends and groups here and am working to drag some fandom friends over to IJ. I'm pondering re-opening my personal blog. I'm no longer emotionally invested in LJ as heavily as I was so I can't really work up a huge head of steam over the latest move. Or the next one. Or the twelve after that.

You're right, all that froth and drama is overkill. It's tiring and not how I want to spend my free-time. Real issues get buried in cat macros and outrage. *shrug* I'm still mourning a bit the death of my all-encompassing love of LJ but I'll get over myself.
Yeah, LJ is a tool to be used, and I enjoy the on-line friends I've made and the communities I've discovered there. I'd hate to have to leave it before I'm ready because of unfriendly policies perpetrated in the interest of being more sponsor-friendly without regard to their actual customers.

However, should the time come, I'll leave it behind just as I've left behind other things that cease to work for me. I only hope that my community of friends stays somewhat intact when that happens.
