Dear LiveJournal user thefacelessevil,

We are contacting you because we have received multiple reports of material in violation of our policies in the 'shota' community, which you are the maintainer of. LiveJournal's policies do not permit images (including cartoon-like artwork) which depict minors engaged in graphic, sexually explicit conduct.

As maintainer of a community, it is your responsibility to ensure that content meeting this description is not present within the community. Please monitor your community and ensure it stays within the guidelines of this policy. Thank you.

Regards,
Brian
LiveJournal Abuse Prevention Team

I opened a support request:
http://www.livejournal.com/support/see_request.bml?id=836059& auth= 549w (Iiinteresting changes they've made in security... I can only open it when logged out.)
At http://community.livejournal.com/ljspeaks/7830.html?view=254358#t254358 it's mentioned that "LiveJournal's policies do not permit images (including cartoon-like artwork) which depict minors engaged in graphic, sexually explicit conduct."

Where is this policy available? I cannot find it, nor a link to it, in the TOS or FAQ.

(I also note that the community in question does not post pictures of minors engaged in sexual acts, because it posts pictures of fictional characters only, who are never minors. Minors are human beings under 18 years of age.)

Gee, when IS that policy document going to be released to THE PEOPLE WHO ARE SUPPOSED TO FOLLOW IT?

Yeah, I got an email today telling me to delete an entry I made in that com awhile ago. I deleted it so that they wouldn't suspend my account. What I figured would end up happening occurred - someone joined the com (it's members locked) just to report it and individual users to the abuse team. Of course, LJ can prohibit whatever they want on their server (despite the fact that it isn't illegal), but why reinstate the com only to threaten it again?

Someone is going to start reporting anime fan art to them next (if they haven't already). How many anime and manga fandoms involve young looking characters that fans draw or write erotica about? Dozens of them.
The amount of people on LJ who take it upon themselves to report what they don't like is astounding.

On vintage_sex, a comm which is flocked and has moderated submissions and membership, a member suggested something I posted was child porn. It was a French art nude from 1890s, nothing sexual about it, and the model was short but not young. She was clearly over 18, but the second someone thought a model was "underage", panic ensued. I'm pretty sure the comm was reported to LJ.

That's why I'm certain people have reported anime and manga by now, just to be contrary or because it wasn't their cup of tea. LJ users are terrible at self-policing because of this, and LJ is no good at determining what's allowable under the TOS and what isn't, so it's a complete mess.
I look at it this way. They won't have to worry about their advertisers in a while. They'll eventually succeed in reducing the bits they get by forcing most people of the site to do the things they do online anyway.
