HP RP?

Once I found out that IJ offers 100 free icons, I ended up wondering why everyone used GJ for RPs when GJ deletes icons that are unused.

I also created a post-DH RP that excludes the epilogue and has an odd little plot twist thrown into the works. Check out Sans Epilogue.

All characters are free at the moment, and I welcome fleeing LJ RPers who are looking for a safe haven for their fictional text-based games.

Let's face it, part of the reason that I've run over here to IJ from LJ is that I just don't feel safe messing around with anything fictional until I get some steady guidelines, and that includes RPing. Especially RPing anything slash-focused. Plus, if I have an RP set up over here, I'm a lot more likely to stay instead of equivocating and wondering if I can really forgive LJ or not.

I've been storing some icons at GJ. Any idea how they define "unused" over there?
No idea. I just remember being annoyed that a bunch of journals I'd made for an RP account were deleted after I stopped RPing there, since I later wanted to reuse those icons for another RP.

Check their FAQ, maybe?
I checked the GJ FAQ, and for whatever it's worth, they say that they only delete icons from journals that are inactive - not individual icons which haven't been used.
Ahhh, that was probably what happened to me since I definitely wasn't using that journal for RPing any longer.
That's what they claim, yes, though I've had them go missing from my currently-in-use accounts. Not as often, admittedly, but it has happened.
...Really? That's a bit of a scary thought.
People use GJ because it's been around longer. Their ban policies are as strict and arbitrary as LJ's--but not focused in exactly the same areas, and they've been honest about their standards from the beginning; they're not suddenly deleting accounts that have been acceptable for years.

My only reason for having/maintaining a GJ account is that it's where some people are shifting to.

This is much more a diaspora than a migration; there's no one site that serves everyone's needs (or key wants), and none that exactly matches "the features LJ has that I really want to keep" for everyone.
Honestly, I had no idea what the ban policies on GJ were so it was reassuring to have this site's admin speak up directly about it. It's also the main reason that I'm here instead of GJ -- well, that and I think the ads on this site are less intrusive.

I'm hoping a big chunk of my flist won't end up over there. I know that journalfen is unlikely to end up harboring everyone, but IJ seems pretty cool so far.

Scribblit

Keep an eye on Scribblit. I think it will ultimately become what we all want, but it will take some time to work the bugs out.

Re: Scribblit

I've friended the creator and I'm definitely watching it. Didn't sign up in time for a test journal though, alas. XD

Re: Scribblit

Watching it too.

I don't think it can become "what we all want"--we don't all want the same thing. (Some people refuse to join JournalFen because it hosts fandom_wank. Others love it because of that.)

Being actively porn-friendly (as contrasted with most sites' apathetic ignorance) will drive off some people.

And whatever features get decided on, they won't make some people happy. For myself, I hate dropdown menus; I have a dialup account at home, and they take annoyingly long to load. Others love them. Being able to host both options takes more serverspace--which means more money.

Does she... opt for more reliable servers, and higher fees? Or glitchy servers and more free accounts?

Either choice will piss people off, and drive people away because they don't like it.

(All that said... I intend to join Scribblit as soon as I have the chance, and throw money in its direction as soon as it's useful to do so. I love the idea, and I don't envy twocorpses the job of sorting out all those issues.)
I believe people RP at GJ because 1) that's where most of the RPGs are, 2) you can have up to 1000 icons, and 3) that's what it started as.

As far as I know, no one has been banned from GJ for obscenity or pornography, but it's entirely possible that it happened and I just didn't hear about it.
GJ started as an RP site? Awesome!

Thanks for the explanation. I only RPed at GJ once and all my other RPs have been on LJ or other sites, so I didn't know that was the basis for GJ's existence.
A huge hello from a fellow RP-er. A quite enthusiastic one, at that, who adores logging in NC-17 from time to time. (Even the most innocent of plots deserves a sprinkling of lust, like a fine spice.)

What games do you participate in? I have heard of almost all of them, and perhaps we are even in one together! (Or have seen each other on TDR, at the very least, assuming you play there.)
Hello! XD And yes, I have to admit, knowing that I've got NC-17 logs up for some RPs doesn't exactly give me much ease of mind.

I've actually been mostly in the YGO fandom for RPs, meaning ygo_rpg, domino_uni, la_linea_scura and then for HP, I was in woolsocks_rp (now deleted) and hogwarts_hocus. So no idea how much intersection we would have had, though it would be cool if we have played together before! (But nope, not on TDR! Though now I want to hear about it.)
Same here. Quite nerve-wracking.

I've heard of hogwarts_hocus, but didn't play in it. (TDR is where players from every fandom can come and interact with each other. "thedressingroom" on LJ. Only drawback is that you often come across so many alternates of your character, with different interpretations, that it becomes absurdly stressful.)

Care to add?
The fact that they're friends-locked doesn't help either now that lj_biz released its latest announcement. Ouch.

So where did you play, and which chars did you prefer? XD (Oh! Yeah, heard of that one! Sounds cool, actually.)

Sure. ♥ Congratulations on being my first new IJ friend.
