Title: Charlie Takes a Holiday
Author: Leela ([personal profile] leela_cat)
Pairing: Charlie/Viktor
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: ~1,520

Summary: The last thing Charlie wants after five days of "sun and fun" with his family is another dinner or pub-crawl with anyone he's related to. No matter how much he likes them.
A/N: Written for [personal profile] luvscharlie, who has given me so much joy over the years, through the fests she's modded, the stories she's written, and the tales she's told in her LJ, and hoping this helps make things just a little bit brighter in her world.

This is What Happens When I'm Forced to Wait

well, not just when I'm forced to wait. first [info]hp_may_madness has a screw your neighbor challenge this week where you post something inspired by a post either before or after your first post in the fest.

I doubled posted days one and two on live journal because I forgot about cross posting. What can I say, I'm spechial.
Add in an IM conversation where I mentioned Rab's painting style and a certain enabler *cough[info]unbroken_halocought* and well...I bring to you abstract water colors

Where the Heck I've Been THIS Time

Long time no post… again. It's the typical story, isn't it? Any time you have lots and lots of things to write about, you're too busy to actually write any of them! Actually, I should be doing other things right now, but I've been itching to post lately, so I'm going to take a break long enough to write up at least a brief update.

I suppose the big, unfortunate news is that I ended up not going to MISTI-Con. The fact that half the people I wanted to see had to back out of going for one reason or another combined with the apparent low number of fandom folks attending and the overall lack of interest in meet-ups/parties/etc. led to my decision to bail. I know, I know; lame! But it just ain't a CON without the awesome people and the wacky get-togethers, see. So, in the end I decided that, if I'm going to spend a wad of cash I don't have, it's probably better to spend it on an eye exam/contacts/glasses and (a lot of) dental work. (Hmm, go to a con or have teeth? Go to a con or have teeth? Tough choice, but…)

Those of you who went, I hope you had loads of fun together! If you wrote wrap-up posts or put up pictures, please link me to them! And I'll try to get us all together sometime in the summer. ♥

As for what I have been doing (as opposed to what I haven't been, heh)…

Well, mostly I've been working a lot. I cut back my work hours a bit some time back, but my job is still kicking the crap out of me. It's been busy for the last three months or so (ever since the post-holiday lull ended), which means I'm making great money, but which also means it's leaving me exhausted. On the days that I work, that's all I do -- work, eat, and sleep. It's a, er, less than ideal arrangement, but I need the money. And it's temporary, dammit!

When I'm not working, I'm up to my eyeballs in bones. Well, pictures of bones. I was up to my eyeballs in the bones themselves a couple of years back; now I'm slogging my way through all of my half-assed notes and photos.

For those who don't know or don't remember, I'm working on some aspects of the pathology of a skeletal collection that was excavated from a medieval cemetery in central Italy. Right now, I'm trying (trying!!) to put together a general spreadsheet of all of my observations/all of the pathologies from my preliminary study of the bones. It would be a whole lot easier if every single one of these people didn't have to have something different wrong with them! I swear, by the time I reach the end of this, I'm going to be a freakin' expert in every kind of skeletal pathology there is!!

::tears out hair in frustration::

ARE THERE ANY PALEOPATHOLOGISTS/BONE PATHOLOGISTS/ETC. ON MY F-LIST?! Gaaaahhh!!

I actually have found some really cool stuff, though. If you consider icky injuries and diseases that affect the skeleton to be "cool". I've considered posting about some of it… Would any of you out there be interested in reading about some of what I'm doing? Or seeing photos?

Anyway. Yeah, life still has me pretty much MIA from LJ/IJ/fandom-land, unfortunately. I think about you all and wonder what you're up to all the time. If anything has happened in your lives that you feel like telling me about, comment or link me to your posts. I miss you guys and want to know how you're doing!

DW S7.2 Ep 6 - Nightmare in Silver

Googling, this past week, leads me to believe that people are divided about Nightmare in Silver, which boggles the mind. While I admit to preferring The Doctor's Wife (for its stronger and more emotive script) this was a gorgeous, gorgeous episode. If Gaiman's first episode is as much a celebration of Samuel Beckett as it is of Doctor Who, this one celebrates Bergman, and children's literature. Epic film and classic theatre. Nightmare in Silver is fantastic and Matt Smith has grown into a damn fine classical actor. Is the RSC calling yet?

Symbolism, acting and plot, oh my... )

Acting wise, Matt Smith is superb, and in fact overpowers most of his support cast and the episode's narrative with the strength of his performance. This is both a positive and a negative because this imbalance weakens the whole - I think it's why some viewers believe there's no plot. Gaiman has written a smart, funny episode. All light and fluffy on its exterior, with a very dark heart. It's dramatic, powerful and well played, with good comedic touches thanks to Tamzin Outhwaite, Eloise Joseph, Will Merrick and Jenna Louise Coleman. But, it is not a masterpiece. That said, I won't be surprised if it gets a Hugo nomination. Given the kind of writer Neil Gaiman is, I rather wish they'd given him Clara's reveal to write as an episode.

That would be something.

Ruminations on Trek, contemplations on beloved pudge

Hope all my Trekkish flisters lucky enough to go, enjoyed the premiere or are looking forward to the film. I caught this review which claims to be spoiler-free, but I caught a couple (although I'm one of those people who doesn't care about being spoiled) and I'm rather ambivalent. I liked the first reboot, although I didn't see it until two years after the film came out and I didn't feel like I missed much to have waited. I feel the same about this one. I might accompany my beloved if she wants to see it, but I'm just as happy to wait for the film to come out on DVD.

No doubt we'll discuss it tomorrow. We're flying again, this time from Tampa to San Jose where we'll be for a day or so and then back home. Not looking forward to it, as it's near 100F at our Hacienda. That means lung and joint misery as both adjust to the change, along with the usual post-travel flare which is never fun. Will have to focus on other things to distract myself. Like this:

lovably pudgy Alan at Q&A for Gambit )

So please do feel free to send any such links! ;-)

Will post again when I can. Until then, I hope you all enjoy your week-end, whatever you end up doing.

May Day Mayday.

Title: May Day Mayday.

Rating : NC-17.

Author: pekeleke

Word Count: 21181

Warnings: Er... Humour. Loads of it. Maybe too much? And first time bottoming bottom-Snape. Sorry, but I like it and I promised my friend Barb to write her some proper action in my next one-shot... ;D

Disclaimer: Don't own these characters. No money is being made out of this work.

A/N: After taking a bit of flak over the accuracy of the rite I described in my Samhain-related piece, I thought I'd add this A/N here in the hope of saving myself unnecessary stress:
Several widely accepted practices and traditional folkloric legends associated with the Ancient Fire Festival Of Beltane have been greatly harmed during the creation of this particular story. I don't claim to be an expert on the rites of Beltane and I'm not trying to portray them in a formal, authentic way, so if you happen to have some sort of deep emotional attachment to Beltane as a festival, then you are better off never reading this fic.

Summary: Severus Snape hates Mondays with a passion. Mondays are horrible days. They should be banned from all calendars forever. This one, though... this one takes the cake. And eats it.

May Day Mayday.

Snarry-a-Thon 2013: Fic Repost

Title: Embodiment
Author: [info]gin_tonic
Other pairings/threesome: None
Rating: PG-13
Word count: 14,500
Warning(s): gore and an excessive amount of coffee-drinking
Prompt: #74 – "Harry’s an Auror, Voldemort’s long dead. A case Harry’s working on turns particularly grisly – he finds a lab/dungeon where a blend of Muggle surgery/magic experiments have taken place. Cadavers fill the room, dissected, organs harvested, and there are Frankenstein-like creations – magical creatures cut up and stitched onto Muggles. Whoever’s responsible is apparently trying to make Muggles magical – and all evidence seems to point to a dead hero, the bravest man Harry ever knew, being the culprit."
Summary: Harry could have done without working with a spineless idiot for a partner and he could have done without catching a case as gruesome as this. But now that he's in the middle of this mess, he has to find a way out of it – thank heavens there's the chance a dead war-hero isn't really dead. He might, after all, not be alone in this.
A/N: There are so many thanks to say! First of all, thank you to my wonderful beta [info]starduchess! Thank you for helping me out again. Thanks go also to the very, very patient mods! Thank you all a gazillion times!

Hello All

I've told two of you what is going on in my life. Suffice to say that things have been crazy insane and include a paradigm shift of sorts.

The hound still needs dental work for her broken tooth, and now I am racking up medical bills. In one month, I've blown through our deductable and am now at the pay 20% range of the insurance.

So, I am selling things:
hand knit items
These vary in amount for materials. All of them have 16 hours or more of work involved in making them.

Snarry Quilt this one has $100 of materials in making it.

And finally two shawls )
