as the city shuts down, i wish they would turn the lights off. at least at night. with people not supposed to be out and about, i do not understand why the city must stay..... on. let the darkness have it place in the world again. let the night rule again.

I feel...incredibly out of sorts. And I don't even know why. My job is suited to my skills. My family is here. I remember who I am. So why do I feel like it isn't enough? My power isn't going to come back faster just because I want it to, I've accepted that. I just. Feel like I've lost the plot of my own life.

I still can't wrap my head around what happened even these few weeks that have passed. I don't know how to comprehend all of this or that something so unexplained. No I guess we know what caused it, just not so easy to wrap one's head around it.

People are hurting and they need kindness and help.

I think I want to take a trip to Poughkeepsie to see what I can do. Maybe nothing but I have to try. would anyone like to come with me?

I ache today. I am sore from head to toe. This world tears itself apart and I feel every moment of it. I can barely get out of bed without crying from pain. I've no idea what to do. I've no idea how to help. It feels selfish to want to, but at the same time, something has to change, or the world will end and, well, so could I. I know I'm feeling sorry for myself today, but I suppose somedays, that's all that you can do.

Since I don't start teaching again until September 3rd, I'm taking this opportunity to travel a ways outside the city on Monday. There's a meteor shower happening that night, and I think a trip to observe it sounds like just the thing.

What's good, NYC? My name's Dorian, and I moved here...it'll be eight days ago tomorrow. Kind of uprooted my whole life, and let me tell you, New York is a different planet compared to Iowa. (Hold all bumpkin jokes til the end, plzkthnx.)

I've been told you can find anything in New York if you look hard enough. Or anyone. I'm hoping to find someone...well, a lot of someones. I just don't have any idea where to start.

Oh well. I survived the two-day drive, and moving my stuff into a third-floor apartment, and learning that apparently my front stoop is party central for the teenagers in my building. It'll be fine. It'll work out.
