Just live your life
Who: Savannah, Eve
When: 1 PM
Where: On Deck
Savannah awoke with a start. For just a moment, she was disoriented, wondering what had awakened her from her nap. It was something she had been resisting all day. Her nap -- it couldn't really have been called a good night's sleep -- on the hard wooden surface of the deck had been hardly enough to satisfy her body's physical and emotional needs. Worn out in both arenas, she had slipped into a gentle sleep about 11:00, and she had stayed merrily in dreamland until just now.
But what had woken her up? Savannah glanced around curiously, catching herself before she could rub her eyes. She remembered then that her make-up had been rubbed off several hours ago, so she went ahead and allowed herself that small, childlike luxury.
No one was out there with her. She had deliberately chosen a secluded, out of the way area of the deck, hoping sincerely that no one would find her there. For the most part, the tears had stopped, but they had this annoying habit of resurfacing without any warning at all. To that end, she knew she was probably a mess.
Savannah looked nothing like she had any other day of the cruise. It was partly her appearance -- little make-up, pale skin, eyes red-rimmed, puffy, and lined by dark circles. The gash on her forehead was beginning to heal, but her ankle remained swollen and angry-looking with its rainbow of colors. The other part of this new Savannah was her depression. Disinterested in everything and everyone, Savannah had spent her free time that morning staring into space. Her disinterest constituted something which was almost a fear of rejection: if Savannah avoided people, they wouldn't be able to reject her. So far, her plan had worked out well...
