Owls coming into the Ministry were not that uncommon, but Mel didn't expect to see one from his Aunt Iphigenia. It took him long enough to register the red envelope that it had already opened and begun to speak, at first at a reasonable volume still audible through the open door, but louder as his Aunt Iphigenia went on until he was convinced everyone in the building could hear her.
When it was over, he sat in his chair for a moment, ashen, before he got up and closed the door with a resounding thud and started to clean the ashes out of his working parchments.
